How are we all? I'd just like to introduce myself, my names Ross and I'm from Australia, I've a couple of beautiful models including an antique hms victory, kit built I presume, and I'm looking forward to perusing the collections of you delightful members.

Thanks for allowing me into this fine guild, and I await correspondence. Yours truly

Admiral nelson

I have built a couple of small ones in the past, but the ones I own now are antique. But am definitely planning on a major build one day soon, but wow, what a daunting task it seems!

Indeed it can be daunting.   Follow the recommendations about starting small (no masts) and build from there.

Thank you, that makes sense, alot of work goes into rigging and sails etc and when I look at some of the beautiful models out there, it always makes me wonder how someone could have the patience and skill to not only build it, but make it look amazing

ModelShipWays does offer a "beginners line" of ships.  It's three models and each one builds on what you learned on the previous one.  It's a good concept, not a huge outlay in cash.  Here's a link: https://modelexpo-online.com/Model-Shipways-Shipwright-3-Kit-Combo-Series_p_5465.html

Hi Ross. Welcome aboard! When you select the kit consider starting a build log. It is the best way to meet members and get advice and makes the daunting task a better experience.
