So , here goes, I've decided to have a go at modelling and having always being fascinated with the Titanic I thought I would start there.

 

I've completed about half of it so far and thought I would build a log, as much for me to look back on as also to gain some expert tips from members here.

 

I have also bought an Occre Polaris, which will be next project, I thought I would try plastic and wood and see which I like best, although I think in the end I will continue with both for variety. I've been looking at the amazing build logs on here for this model and I'm already learning, which is why I started in the first place.

 

Anyway, here goes....

I have also bought some paint, not supplied with the kit, to do the yellow line around the top of the hull and to paint the propellor shafts (apologies, I will learn the correct terminology!) And also some lights to put inside!

For this build, I'm following the instructions to the letter. Maybe I'll get more confident as time goes on to find better ways of doing things. I'll update once I've got a bit futher.

Tonight has been railings. Quite pleased with the result. Spent quite a lot of time filing the sprue bits off.

Quite a lot of fiddly bits coming together.

I have a question on your ‘build sequence’: in most kits the deck is glued to the hull before the remaining stuff is put on. 
Getting it on before is helpfull in case hull or deck (or both) are warped, and a lot of rubber bands are needed to close the gaps.

Hooe your deck fits without brute force…..

It's a good point, thanks. I'm following the instructions from Airfix and it isn't until step 44 ( out of 53) that the deck is attached. I have had a a dry run earlier and it looks ok, so fingers crossed!

So I leave Brussels to head back to the UK tomorrow for a week or so, Titanic will have to wait to be finished. Waiting for me in the UK though is an Occre Polaris! Build log no doubt we'll be coming soon.

 

Here's where I got to tonight.

 

Next step is to connect all the decks and attach it all to the hull so not a bad place to leave it!

Back in Brussels so a little bit of work tonight, I've attached the decks together and put some lights into the hull. Managed to glue the battery pack under the base and get the wires up through the stand supports so it's all hidden.

Then a quick dry fitting. 

 

Don't know if anyone can recommend a similar forum to this for model aircraft? I'm building an airfix Lancaster bomber back in the UK and wouldn't mind doing a similar thing to here. Any suggestions welcome.

We have a non-ship subgroup. It is small, but perhaps theycan give you a ‘place to be’ for aircraft-builders.

 @realworkingsailor Andy,  do you have a suggestion?

Tried out the lights... And made a mess of the yellow line. Tomorrow's job is to try and sort it out

Nearly there.....

I might finish it tomorrow night. Well apart from some touching up here and there but the build will be done.

 

I've really enjoyed this model and a good one to start with I think
