Advice

 I'm looking to find a decent French 2nd or 3rd rate ship of the line. Hopefully 1/48 scale, something that will compare with something like the HMS Bellona from CAF model. for a gift to a friend. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

That is going to be slim pickings. French subjects are somewhat neglected by kit manufacturers, and a 2nd or 3rd rate in 1/48 would be a massive kit. For that subject and scale, you're looking at scratch-building.

It's a shame as well as there are some beautiful French ships, I was just looking around recently to see if there were any good 18th century French Frigate kits around 1:64 scale and sadly there wasn't a lot out there.

Ancre Monographs, they have several books on ships of the line, I saw at least one Napoleonic three decker in there.

America gave This ship to the French as a gesture of friendship. America was the first ship of the line built for the Continental Navy, but she never saw service there, being given to France after launching. French ship America (1788) America was a Téméraire-class 74-gun ship of the line of the French Navy. The Royal Navy captured her in 1794 at the Glorious First of June. She then served with the British under the name HMS Impetueux until she was broken up in 1813. She became the prototype for the Royal Navy America-class ship of the line.

I found that it was part of the French Temeraire class but I'm unable to find any sort of plans
