I bet you spent more than you intended!  Around $50?   Although it is cheating going at night so you don't have to buy a sausage haha.

I am sure you will make the right decision on your colouring.  If I had to choose though, (from reading every Bounty Launch log I could find) I do agree with you and just a smidge lighter might be what you are after and I am guessing the 8:3 ratio might do the trick.  But please remember that computer screens display things differently so you are the best judge of all!

In Belgrade, in this time of year, weather have to be 0-5℃ with "maybe" snow

Last week (and next rwo as forecast said) we have spring time

Today temperature was 20℃ and I spent all day (until sunset at 16h) in yard fighting with chaos that left after cutting trees couple days ago.

I turned heating system about 19:00 only half of hour, only because Admiral asked for

And evening is mine ( and Her Majesty's)

I analyzed next move: little "rings" which are "seeded" here there and everywhere around outside bulwark and on the upper part of hull, and concluded next:

In my scale, them all have to be between 0,5 and 1 mm

Them all had "ring" function and ring shape - to catch something on them: chain, rope, or eye/block pa rt etc etc

All of them have their names and basicly different construction and function and look ... but ... at my scale, this is not possible (for me) to follow and to reproduce accurate - those little ants are less than 1mm in diameter !!!! Mission impossible

    So, simpliwfying time !

I decided that all of them will be the same, as smaller as I am able to make, and after little experimenting, factory starts

Them all will be black acrylic covered, and them will be cuted to proper lenght before mounting

    Material used: telephon cooper wire

30 pieces made in two hours, no one dissapear on desk!?!?

Bindy reacted to *Hans* in Trireme c. 480 BC by *Hans* - ancient Greek warship
After finishing my first scratch build - VOC Retourship Batavia - I will now start with something completely diffirent, a Greek Trireme.

Trireme means literally three oars - three rows of oars placed above each other.

For one of my sons, who is studying archeology and has a great interest in the ancient Greek culture I already made a Bireme - two oars.  This one is in scale 1:35.

The European modelbuilder Krick also has a Trireme in its program, so we decided to buy and built this one:

But this is in scale 1:72 and built it will be about 51 cm long. About the same as the Bireme.

So we decided to lay the kit aside and use the plans to upscale the thing to 1:35 scale - making it twice as big as the Bireme, but in the same scale.
This means a model of over 1 meter (3 ft) and making everything yourself - keel - bulkheads - planking etc.
Therefore this topic in the scratch-build section.

First step to do was to upscale the plans, with my copier and some old fashioned carbonpaper:

After that the jig saw and after sawing and fitting the first result:

    Hi folks,

May I say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the trouble to send a post on both my log and my gallery. I am really flattered and grateful that you consider the work of a novice builder to be worthy of such praise.

I am not thinking of making a case for her as it would cost almost as much as the original build. I realise that she will gather dust but eventually that should 'age' her nicely and provide a home for the odd spider or two.

Sadly in a way not that many people will ever see her so her preservation is not so important. For me the joy is in the making and a satisfactory end result which I imagine applies to many of the MSW members.

I am going to have a brief sabbatical and make a horse drawn taxi next to keep me occupied but fear not, I shall return with a new build when I have decided which paddle steamer I am going to do. I have done one, the Spirit of the Mississippi (another OcCre kit) but I want her to have a companion so I have big hopes for Christmas.

Thank you all again for your very kind comments.

Update Time........ a couple pictures showing where I'm at with this build. I left off with a repair underway, well , that's completed and so is the installation of the last two upper strakes p.&s. ran into a little problem with the stern , but that's taken care of also.

this shows the s.b. side where I had to remove the 3rd and 4th planks from the top. all repaired.

This one shows the stern planking flaring out too much. the transom wasn't going to fit properly so I had to reset the last two planks p&s .

    Now the transom will fit

    Bulkhead tops removed

Now I'll start fairing up the hull and start on the decking. Thanks for looking in.

A small update..... My first ( and I hope my last)  Alert repair!!...... I was just starting to set the last 2 strakes
and when I started the star-bord side I ran into a little problem.  while trying to fair the bottom plank I took off to much on the top of the plank, so when trying to fit the one on top of it it just wouldn't sit right, so I decide to yank that plank out and start from scratch, because I know that would have really bugged me, but as  things go, while removing that one I screwed up the one beneath it ( and I thought I was so careful) well what
was supposed to be a band aid treatment became  minor surgery. For fear of screwing up any more planks I soaked that one real good with alcohol . As you can see in the last picture the procedure was  a success !!
Now all I have to do is get it back together again. I'm so glad this is scale planking!! :P
    Frank

This is the first plank removed, as you can see the next plank had a piece chipped right near the stem, Thats what prompted me to remove that one also

This is where I carefully soaked and started to remove the second plank

Operation finished!!! Like I said before , I'm glad these are scale planks!!!

    Hello my friends,
It's been awhile since I posted, a very busy time at work, and the old HM is paying the price!  The rigging process has continued in small fits and starts.  The lower shrouds were served and mounted to the masts and the ring bolts and blocks are now mounted in place on the hull and deck.

One thing that was not included in the kit were any type of ring for the base of the mast to simulate the wedges, so I set about to make them...this proved easier said then done.  I tried multiple techniques including, turning (the little guys just broke apart), bending ( no wood I have could take the tight radius required), piecing sections together ( just looked like s***) ...I was really getting frustrated when I remembered what Doris has been able to accomplish with card stock.  If you haven't visited her build log you're in for a treat, what she does with paper is truly amazing, link follows:  http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/854-royal-caroline-by-doris-card-1749-140/

So with that in mind I set about to use card stock,  I first cut narrow strips about 1/32 wide, then the base of each mast was wrapped with tape, sticky side out, and the strips wrapped around them.  The tape holds the rings in place while they are trimmed to size. at that point a dab of CA to hold the newly formed ring together, once the glue sets just slide off the mast, remove the tape and apply paint, in this case a primer coat followed by a brown wash. Sorry I've no in progress pics got so engaged I totally forgot to take them

The masts have been mounted, the foremast was given more forward tilt then what shows in the pic...its was adjusted after the photo was taken.

As always thanks for your time and attention,
    Pics follow

Thank you for all the likes and kind comments, and now for a final update on the Carmen.

For display, I decided that I'd like to take it to the office and keep it there, since I'm a bit of a hermit and nobody would ever see it at my house. The problem is, that being both very light, and a bit fragile, I figured it would be a week or less before the nighttime cleaning crew managed to knock it over and wreck it. So I decided to make a display shelf.

I went to Lowe's and bought a couple short pieces of red oak. Since I have no 'full size' woodworking tools besides a circle saw, that's what I used to cut the wood, but of course I have no way to make proper joints, so I just cut a couple of pieces of the 'leg' wood and glued them inside the main legs for support, used lots of Titebond wood glue, and clamped the hell out of it overnight. Seems pretty solid, especially considering that it's only got to hold up a really light little boat. It's main purpose in life is to anchor the boat down. For that, I measured the spot where the boat's stand needed to sit to keep it centered on the shelf, and drilled a couple holes part-way through the shelf, and then drilled much smaller holes the rest of the way through. I then drilled a couple small holes into the boat stand, and anchored the boat stand to the shelf with some small wood screws. I then finished it by using Min-wax wipe on Poly (clear satin), and gave it three coats with steel-wool buffing between coats.

Pretty happy with it considering my lack of tools to do a 'proper' job. I certainly wouldn't try to use it for anything that could put significant side to side stress on the legs.

    And in natural light.

Monday morning Carmen is off to the office!

So, then - a detailed update for you.

I am still working on the interior - this takes a good bit of careful measurement, cutting, sanding, throw it away and do it again.  But, I am learning as I go, and more importantly, having fun!

So - since last we chatted, I have nearly completed the ceiling along the port side.  Have one small piece to fit in that I pulled after applying primer (just didn't look right).

Photo the first - a view of the interior work in-progress.  As you can see, I have started fitting the wet well as it serves as a guide (sort of) for the ceiling.

I temporarily fit the deck beams that the corner posts will terminate on as a clamping (and measuring) point for the corner posts.

Over the next few evenings I began to add planking for the wet well.  I am foing to plank the port and forward sides to the top (deck beams) and leave the starboard and aft sides at least partly unplanked to allow a view inside the wet well.  The frames at the bottom remain exposed - will be painted with simulated waterproofing.  The hull planking will serve as the actual bottom for the wet well with 130 some odd small holes drilled to through to allow water to circulate (at least on the real vessel.  I will probably only do a couple of dozen).

This gives a nice view from the starboard side of the bedlogs and frames.  I need to do a bit of cleanup on the painting here.

Another view of the ceiling on the port side showing the missing piece I need to replace

And a final view of the ceiling on both sides forward.

Well, no gratuitious pictures at the bay today - been a wet, rainy day.  Maybe next time!

For now, though, the ECB moves back to the storage shaelf and the Essex comes back down for a bit of work.  Look forward to any recommendations on how I can make the ECB look better - and thanks for stopping by!

All eight sheaves finished, started with mounting them , and - WRONG OPOSITE ANGLE OF SHEAVES ON BULLWARK. Upper top of sheaves turned to stern ?!?!

Nenad, what are you thinking of ?

Not big deal, little putty, and wrong drilled holes are fixed, and mounting will folow next time

Here is "how to" part, if somebody is interested

General notice - work only with small speed of Dremell. It goes slowly, but much precise with full control, and without danger to launch sheave somewhere

Little hole 0,5 mm is first step

Turn piece vertical, and with same tool, slowly widening it to down, cut whole to down. Work on both sides if strip at same time

Do not cut piece still. If,you do, it will be very hard to hold piece and to control it. Change tool, and slowly fit thicknes and round corners

Change tool again, and now slowly cut little "trench" enough deep that you can separate piece by light moving left-right

Use precise and strong pean or something, change tool again, and slowly fit other two angles and thickness

After a while, there are all eight

And you are ready to make some new mistake

Attorney strike continues (50th day), and today our minister on national TV news at 20:00 h local time said that all attorneys are connected to organized criminal .... all 10.000 Serbian attorneys ... I stay frozen and speechless ... and angry to the heaven. Just can not believe what he said ?!?!?

Such a attitude was not presented public never in history, even from Stalin, Hitler, Saddam ....

If you do not believe, please read Serbian news in English...

Pissed off went to my drug to try to calm down ... to try to make some progress on Her Majesty

This is next ( I do not know name and purpose of this)

In my scale, veeery very very small

Several attempts ... it is not necessary to mention that four times this little parts disappear somewhere under work bench ... and it was more easy to make new instead to try to find piece 1x2 mm on floor ...

    And after painting ...

    Not bad

After spending 3 hours in making and losing this beats , said to me, that is enough for today. Going upstairs to the dark reality ...

Will now take them off and fit the stringers and parts 18, 28 and 29.

    Hi all.

This is how the deck was fitted after cutting.

Push deck through stern bulkhead frame.

Move it along till you get to bulkhead frame 6 from the stern ( or bulkhead frame 2 in the kit ) , now drop it down , you will have to bend it a little to get the deck onto the frames.
    Now fit the deck.
