I marked out all the plank lines on all the moulds like this:

The patterns come pretty close but I had to kind of average the widths out a bit to see what fits and looks right. So not all fall right on their lines.
No one will ever know as long as one plank is not too wide, and the one next to it too narrow.

She's done!         I decided to go with sails. This first model was supposed to be a learning experience, and I needed to learn how to do sails too!
My first attempt I ruined the sail fabric. This second set I used watered down Elmer's glue to seal the sail fabric. No stitching - just drew in pencil lines. I even went to buy some different fabric, but in the end I used these sails. I'm happy with the outcome. The next model I think I'll sew the sails on.
Now my lovely wife has to get a spot in the curio cabinet cleared out.

So now a question does arise on my build... I am getting ready to do the deck beams and carlings. The plan sheet says to fit many seperate carlings in the spaces between the bulkheads. There will be a lot of small cuts and fitting to do it this way. It seems to me that a better way would be for me to cut notches in the bulkheads and fit the carling as one continuous piece. I know if I was building the thing full size, that is what I would want to do.
Any thoughts or comments from past Pinky builders? Or maybe you did the same thing on a different model you've built?
Or maybe I shouldn't do this - this way at all?
I am leaning towards it - it seems to simplify the job, and once glued in I think it will be stronger this way as well.

Sorry guys, I didn't even wait for a response - I just went and did it!   I used the dremel tool with the cut off wheel and cut the notches in the bulkheads. It worked great. Cleaned the slots up with a square needle file and glued in the front carlings in one piece each. I had to clean up the table for dinner so I'll get back to the others later.  I need a real modeling bench - we just don't have the extra room in the house...

Bob, I think you have got the centerboard hook the way it should be in your terrific drawing. I messed around with mine and changed it, but I wish I would have put it in the position that your drawing shows. It makes more sense from a 'leverage to lift the board viewpoint'.
Just make sure if the board is down - that the hook is down too!

Dee Dee hinted for some planking info - I have had to steam at the bow and stern. I'm working at the kitchen table so the tea kettle is right behind me. Haven't done any spiling yet - the plank patterns have been fitting pretty close. I did a careful lining off according to the plans - that helped the patterns fit good, I think. Now this is my first time planking, and I wouldn't say the planking is difficult - just a bit tedious and time consuming. It's all good. I'm working on strake #4 now.

    Hey Alde
My pinky has sat for a long time now. Not much has been done in well over a year, and the hull still sits with just those few planks on.
I haven't been on the forum for a while. Now that I see you are gettting your pinky started maybe that with get me going again.
My time has been occupied with another 1:1 build, and it is done and sails and rows well - all this past summer - but now I'm building a new rig for it, so the gunning dory "Lark" is still on the front burner for now.
Take a peek if you would like: https://gunningdory.wordpress.com/2014/08/09/3/
best of luck with your pinky build.

Welcome to the beginning of my Pinky Schooner build log. I am just starting to cut out some parts and clean up the laser char on them. I have added a couple pics of the kit - seems like a good way to start things out. I'll probably be a little slow getting things going here as I'm still working on the MBLS. What I'm doing here now is just pretty much keeping me busy while the stain an varnish dries on the spars for the smack. I will say so far the laser cut parts are pretty nice - easy to pop out from the cards. the wood looks to be of good quality, I don't see anything warped or anything bad like that yet. ME has a March madness sale now and this kit is only $70. I think that's a pretty darn fair price for what I've got in this kit here. The plans are quite impressive to me. Much more detailed - more like you are building a real ship - than the other plans that I'm building the smack from now.
This is gonna be a fun boat to build!
Well?... Let's get on with it!

Got a few pix here of my start on the lobster smack.
I'm finding being patient while the glue dries to be the hardest part so far
Me and super glue have never got along very well, and this model build is no exception. The stuff sticks my fingers together no problem but the actual piece I'm trying to glue together is questionable.
I tried  to paint the cockpit sole to resemble weathered teak.

I finished the finish. So many things require this step being complete so I'm anticipating some progress. Got the floor boards in and began work on the mast, centerboard & rudder/tiller.

I'll be on board for this build too. It's a neat looking boat. I should've got it when it went on sale recently, but it'll come around again. I hope.
