I hear that's how it starts... first a slight fever, then an unreachable itch, a scratch build here and a scratch adjustment there and before you know it... plans arrive in the mail and the dark side absorbs you... or so I have heard

Nice schooner Eddie, looking forward to watching your build. About the table... you could have made it 4 times bigger and by now you'd still wish for more room

Rudder
i attached a piece of wood under the rudder so that i had it in the right position
the pins and brackets were easy enough to fit (must learn the correct names) - glued into position before matching to the hull, then was able to marked where the holes required to be drilled in the stern post
coppering will be done son possibly after the British F1 race this afternoon (dont care who wins - so long as it is Lewis Hamilton)
i have moved the plates of the stern post and will not copper the fwd facing edge of the rudder, as it will kill any clearance id have and look to tight, but might change my mind later
all the best

Hey Andy,
A while back we were sharing our favourite Farside cartoons. Given the venerability of some of us, this one seems kind of appropriate:

Don't worry, Andy, I think the calamity has passed and the worst is over
Guys, let's get back to work and start the nuts rolling, oops I mean the balls rolling, yikes, pardon me, I mean let us proceed accordingly
OK, I will sneak back to my cave now

lamarvalley reacted to augie in colour of channels
I'd normally go with druxey on this. Natural if the model was done all in natural, otherwise black. I'm thinking you want to match the caprail/uppermost planking somehow. Thing is, I have a nagging feeling I've actually seen some (in real life) in some other color that complements the ship. So I'm not so sure.
I'll keep watching, half expecting one of our most experienced to boom in something like 'According to Admiralty Rule # XXYY.........

I'm going on with the rigging. Heart blocks are used for the mizzen and foremast shrouds and these are fixed to deck. I’ve attached also every possible standing and running rigging to the main mast at this stage. For convenience I’ve modified some cloth pegs which proved to be very useful.

i continually read everyone cruising holidays, sun, sea, and another (another word beginning with s--)
do you want to hear about mine
oh yes of course we do - it's my thread - after all
Well here are some of the best holidays i have ever had - (HMS REPULSE) (PORT) , now decommissioned awaiting scrap, Not quite as glamorous but brilliant all the same - and get paid to do it,
Pay -good
Duration - Min 8 weeks
Weather - Rain in the engine room - depending on steam leaks
Sunshine - limited
Meals - good- lots of them, you knew it was
Friday (Fish) Saturday (steak) Sunday (pizza)
Guided tours - Expected of you to do your own
Laundry - depends on the day of the week
Entertainment - limited
Alcohol- yes - but dont
Church - all faiths catered for - provided you all support the same one
Contact with home - 0ne way only - and that is not out - 40 words - once a week - 80 at Christmas - but no Santa
Safety - so safe - we made pretend fires up - just to pretend to put them back out
- oh and carried enough POLARIS missiles to make the local headlines, should we ever have fired one
all the best
Kevin

lamarvalley got a reaction from Salty Sea Dog in Frigate Berlin by Ferit KUTLU - Corel - 1/40 - 1674
No oath was taken to speak at any point.... I think I can however speak for everyone who comments on your work, the preciseness and crispness of your work, that it is an honor to see such exceptional work and it is then a duty and a pleasure to tell you how impressed we are. Don't blush ... you have a talent that is merely appreciated. I think we all know a dozen, maybe two dozen individuals that rank in that top tier, and you my friend, IMO, are there

lamarvalley reacted to RiverRat in Frigate Berlin by Ferit KUTLU - Corel - 1/40 - 1674
Hi Ferit,
There IS sort of an unwritten rule (though there has actually been some discusion about it), or oath as you suggested, of avoiding negative comments of someone's work, and rather, adding positive critcism in a helpful way. But frankly Ferit, no one here is bullshitting you ( forgive the language, moderators) when they praise your modelling talent! The accolades aren't there to make you feel good or to encourage you to do better. You somehow have a real talent for this stuff. Thanks for sharing it with us.

"This is where they usually deliver the check "
Love that but you're not far behind... Commodore Sjors may just nod his head toward Commodore Augie, who also heads the table, when the check comes around Besides, who knows what his rank will be then A mere check might be beneath his station at that point...
