You have come a long way since we first met and are now miles beyond my abilities as a model shipwright. I enjoy watching your progress on this "Mayflower", especially since our family ancestry includes, one John Howland, who was at that time an indentured servant on this famous ship.

    Hi Mark,

Zoom in on the figurehead photo dated 7/28, and concentrate on the drape of the robe over the left arm and shoulder. It looks as though you could round the corner of the sleeve, from the cuff all the way up and around the top of the shoulder. You might also do some rounding  on the robe hanging under the arm, down towards the foot. Then zoom in on the 7/28 photo showing the right arm. A bit of rounding similar to the other side might then have your Druid looking more realistic... rounder and less square.

Also. look at the hood on the bottom two photos dated 7/29. You might also shave the back of the hood a bit to make the fabric drape more vertically down to where his shoulders would be. The hood fabric would then be shaped more like the outside of the Druid's skull.

A friend, a magnificent carver of birds, and now starting to work on ship models, might have some more useful observations on your Druid figurehead. I'll email him and have him take a look.

Take a look at the website he recently put together, showing some of his magnificent bird carvings.

    Hi Mark,

Your DRUID is spectacular in every way :im Not Worthy:. I especially like your figurehead... a Druid... of course... why not.
Mine has languished these past months since our move to a new home, some 7 months back. She's stuck
in the doldrums...  ZZZzzz! . Waiting for a breeze, anything... to inspire me to get back to work.
Your display case is also top-of-the-line. Time to sit back and admire your work

Beautifully done, Mark.  Your Druid came out very well, inspite of the battle damage.

    G'day Mark,

Though I have not had anything to say for a long time, I have been lurking in the shadows watching your log, admiring your progress and the excellence of your work. We recently moved to a newer and smaller home where I have taken over the guest bedroom and arranged my workspace in order to finish my DRUID. I will now have your photos and comments to help me along the way. Great work!

The Naiad Frigate - Addendum 4

There is a discrepancy between the configuration of Frame OA as shown on the original Naiad draft and the way it is shown on Drawing 3 and on the pattern on the CD.   Frame OA is shown butted against frame OF over its full height.  In fact the upper futtocks of Frame OA should be set 2" aft of the joint line.

Attached is a revised pdf for the OA pattern and another showing the correct configuration for frame O on Drawing 3.

Thank you, Albert, for pointing out this difference.

Here is a "Google Translate" Italian>English translation of Lino's last message. The translation is less than perfect, and my understanding of the first few translation words is shown in brackets. But it's good enough to be understood. I have suggested to Lino that he post his Italian>English translations at MSW .

Hi,   [i wish to be included] in this discussion because I too have broken the rules of the forum, but without knowing it. However, I apologize. As the topic is interesting, it would be a shame to exclude those who do not know English or understands little. I really hope in the common sense of the moderators that this does not happen, and will respect whatever your decision, thanks and best regards.   Lino

Perhaps instead of deleting, the authors can edit and post the translated comments. The order of the thread will not be affected. It is such interesting topic. Keep up all the good model making here and in Italy or anywhere were good efforts are made.

Sorry to have broken the rules and, of course, will comply. Deletion on sight seems a bit heavy handed. Seems like a gentle reminder would be quite effective. No one is trying to turn this into a multi-lingual site, least of all me. Just trying to be courteous and return greetings to some whose English is not up to our level, but are still interested in the content or who may need help.

    Sorry,

Hi all and many thanks for your comments!

some photos of manufacturing of deck planks with caulking. The first photo shows the complete process. The paper was glued to one surface of the prepared piece of wood, then the piece are cut in to planks. I used the Proxxon steel saw blade 50 x 0,5mm (photo 2). It gives very clean cut and does not need for sanding before gluing.

(note an additional piece for fence is that the plank would not be clamped)

    The planking of deck:

the work go on and the deck is nearly completted. The ridding bits and anchor bitts are only dry placed without a glue, and anchor cable is still for photo shooting.

The deck of Captain's cabin is done, the planking of after part of hull is completed and lower counter rail also on place.

    Added some photos:

    To be continued.

Those quarter galleries are difficult to get right with their sweeping curves and angles. Everything from the wooden shingles to window frames fits perfectly together. Just beautiful, Alex!
