Saettia Genoese by maurino
maurino replied to maurino's topic in - Subjects built Up to and including 1500 AD
Hi ken, there is a museum in Genoa Galata, I also know the museum of Camogli, but in Italy it is not easy to get help or documentation museums. Only a few "friends" are able to get access to archival materials. The model ship is not considered a means of spreading the culture of the sea, rather it is considered as a game for adults I was a little child. Mauro -

Thank you friends, I hope to make you thrill to my model !!! Mauro -
Start building a Genoa's saettia , merchant ship often used in '600 around the Mediterranean Sea. Here is a picture of how it should be (approximately) the finished model. Mauro

Hi Nils, we Italians are very good in the work of haute couture (Armani, Trussardi, Versace ......), I also work with me in the hollow needle and thread !!! The crew is too static, but at this scale I have not found anything better. Currently I'm building the Beagle and I'm looking for a new model to be assembled at the same time, but are still undecided ..... Mauro

I decided to self-produce the strips of the second planking, I bought it from a carpenter a scrap of veneer, which I cut into pieces of about 30 cm. Then, on one side only, I brushed glue diluted with water so as not to make the pulping wood during cutting. Using a paper trimmer I cut the wood (oak) in strips of 3 mm. Mauro -

As I always do in my models, I apply inside the hull a mix of white glue, wood chips, sawdust and small wood scari. This gives more strength to the hull and prevents shrinkage and twisting of the planking . Mauro -

I started to lay the first planking , the kit had to be very old because the strips are virtually dry ...... even keeping them to soak for hours. Are prone to breaking, I put them carefully and forcing them as little as possible. At the end of a good sanded remit all right! Mauro -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
