  1. They are copper clad steel BB's, Ken. Was only planning on using them as supplemental weights, not paint mixing. Have a battery powered mixer from MicroMark for that function. Works great, even on old almost dried out Floquil paint. So as I await the hazmat suit and my venture out to Wally World in search of BBs, I have gotten this far with the build. Unfortunately the rotor blades were not designed to rotate on this model so I have to make that the last addition.
  2. Already exhausted that avenue, OC. Either too big to fit or not heavy enough. I have a local source just have to wait for an time when there are few customers, like mid week at 7 AM....
  3. Before I can finish the rest of the model I have to add 3-4 grams of weight/ballast to the nose so it will sit level. Right now it is tail heavy. This incarceration is making it difficult to run and and pick up a packages of BBs since I have nothing in stock that will fit down into the well. More later !
  4. WOW ! Nice detail and nice paint job, Lou
  5. Thanks, Carl ! Yes I think it is called Ghost Gray Did not mask windows. Tried to but could get it to work for me. I coated them with Pledge acrylic floor wax first to protect them as best I can. Even diluting the Model Master enamel did not go too well, kept clogging the pipette so I could not get an accurate measure. Ended up free handing it with the sort of diluted enamel. I definitely do not like Testors Model Master paints. I wanted to try Mr Color but the source I found had a large selection of colors to choose from, unlike my other two sources, but the colors I wanted were all on backorder with no estimated delivery date so I had to settle with the Testors I already had on hand.
  6. Well, now that we've gotten the approval of our armchair CNO on the correct hue for the helo, I can proceed with the assembly. Upper fuselage Main body assembled Added the canopy Some touch up painting - stabilizer fins added to tail section Painting the canopy frame by hand was a challenge and a half. Tried masking but that didn't work too well, so I resorted to free-handing it. And now back to the incarceration cell, errr, workshop
  7. On my tablet screen and my laptop screen and to naked eye it looks red.
  8. White balance is set to daylight and the LED worklight is rated daylight, 5200 Kelvin I think. I know color daylight film is rated 5600-5800 K
  9. I assume that is 30% thinner / 70% paint? I have been using acrylics also but not diluted. I pour a little into a plastic egg carton shape easel, dip brush in clean water, pickup a dab of paint on brush then apply. Area depends on size of brush I am using. For this model I did the hull in enamel to get the color hue I needed. Most everything else will be acrylic if and where I can. For example, the cockpit detail above is all done with acrylic, hand brushed. Ditto interior of cabin.
  10. I sprayed all the sprues with Tamiya brand Fine light gray primer, both sides of sprues. Let stand 24 hrs then painted, Yes straught from bottle. Thanks !
  11. Only some old Testors Model Master thinners, OC. What dilution ratio would you recommend? I am using Testors Model Master brand paints. It is mostly enamel. For the non enamel stuff I am using Vallejo .
  12. Orange, Ken ? You need a new monitor ! Looks almost fire engine red to my naked eye. Probably should look at and photograph it outdoors in real sunlight instead of daylight rated LEDs. And man is this enamel ever sticky. Not used to working with enamel. Got really spoiled by Floquil when I did the tanks.
  13. Moving right along here at the incarceration center. I've completed the cockpit module, painted the exterior surfaces of the body, using ModelMaster Chevy Engine Red enamel to give me a glossy finish. Figured I would paint the hull first then install the clear plastic windows - save some grueling masking. I'm hand brushing the paint on with no thinner. I have an airbrush but have not had much success with ModelMaster paints. Haven't tried the newer brands yet. Some paint touch up will be done before I seal everything inside the hull. Photos follow:
  14. I'm building this ! Where's the Minotaur ? Better brush up on Greek mythology I guess !
  15. Mother Nature did it for me ! The entire collection used to sit on an open bookshelf for years until the Admiral decided to remodel our den right down to the wall studs. So they got removed, dusted off with small brush, some compressed air, a Q-tip, and then stored in plastic storage bins. The "wind-swept dust" is what I could not remove without destroying the decals. Sometimes it pays to be a lazy modeler and not cover or dust your models. Thanks, glad you liked the collection.
  16. @Egilman, thanks for the list of paints and sample photos. I think the model in MM Chevy engine red looks closest. I did find the Mr Color red madder at HobbyWorld USA in NH. Going to order some from there and see how it looks. I do have a bottle of the MM Chevy engine red in my paint stash.
