Yup, Looking forward also. Pleased you picked up on the Sails.... Be careful with the Dowell measurements, there is no extra catered for. Also, take care with the Centre Mahogany Plank, If your going to Joggle, make the Cross Grain cuts with a Razor Saw, in fact, all the Mahogany parts are extremely brittle.... I "Articulated" the Skylights, just something different.... 🙂 Trying to find the Joggling that I copied from another modeller….. Tomorrow perhaps. Cheers, Harry.

Thank you for the complement Chap!! I am but a "Newbe" myself. Joggling the deck I was fairly anxious about myself but worked out o.k. I'll see if I still have some near scale photos from another modeller that I copied the "Joggle." Just take your time.... Sails, mine anyway, were a bit of a mission and not quite correct in length, "Luff?" My Partner did the sewing thing for me. I hope to be on-line soon, moving Myself, my partner, cats, ship models and the house contents from Wellington to Taranaki as of tomorrow afternoon.... Cheers and Regards, Harry Funnell.

Hi Chap, Looking good, The Garboard Strake was always a bit of a mystery to me no matter how much I read. Looking forward to more of your "Practicum." Just a question, how are you planning to mount this? (Wood or Mirror?) (I think the Bourbon worked well!! 🙂) Cheers....HOF.

O.k. Trying to get back into it.... It's been a while, that's o.k. In between getting the house ready for sale, buying another, no one can move given the current climate.... So, pulled out the Rudder/Sternpost and associated components. Sternpost is at least 10mm too long so carved out the first layer of planking to accept, still too long so will have to make the Keel a bit thinner. Once I have things fitting, I'll try to "Articulate" the Rudder. Doesn't look to flash at this time.... (Second Planking can then follow.) A couple of photos.... Cheers....HOF.

Hi Chap, With regards to Masting/Rigging, have you seen Mr. Earls' Bluenose II practicum? https://modelboatyard.com/bluenose2_articles.html Cheers....HOF.

Hi Chap, A look at your photos, I don't think that your Mainmast Chain plate spacing issue will be too much of an issue. I had an issue with the lack of Scuppers in my build, just had to move on. (I didn't see your issue when I first looked and I don't really think that anyone else viewing will see this otherwise.) In this pastime, Both I, you and all others, strive for perfection.🙂) Don't worry too much about it, it may annoy you but what can be done? (If you really wanted to, you could re-do.... Fill/Patch/Sand/Touch-Up Paint.) Your choice Sir, Looking good!! "There is no such thing as a bad ship model, only better ones...." (Don't know where I got that quote.... ) Cheers and Regards, Harry. Hi Chap, I forgot the name of the member, (MSW), I got these off a few years ago.... Hope they are of some assistance as the plans/instructions are not!! (I printed them off, to me they are "Gold" for this model!! 🙂) Unsure how accurate as I am not there yet, but better than A/L Plans, anyway, something to share.... (Thank you for triggering my memory. 🙂) The reason I requested these is that the Plan and Sheer views provided in my kit were 1:1 B & W photos, extremely difficult to get any accurate measurements off. If you can't see them, send me a PM. Cheers and Regards, Harry. img001.pdf img002.pdf img003.pdf img004.pdf

Hi Chap, Had similar issues with this Kit.... Mine were a couple of feisty Abyssinian's bent on chasing a Bush Rat that they bought in.... Started this one, but.... My A/L Kit fell out of the storage due to rat/cats.... Carpet, lost a lot and decided to discontinue and go with the Sergal version, albeit, the Ship Room is now firmly closed when I'm not in attendance.... I do now have the newer A/L version awaiting with sails. So many Ships, so little time.... 🙂 Cheers....HOF.

Nice!! Are you going to bother "Linking" the Batteries? (Sorry, a detail thing.... If it can't be seen, why worry.... just a thought.) Cheers....HOF.

That's a great result!! Looks like the "Scrap" behind the Bulwarks worked well to prevent drill "Breakout." (Something I learned many years ago in my secondary school woodwork days....) Have you thought abut "Pinning" the Bulwarks to the Waterways/Transom? Planking pins affixed with CA? Maybe it will prevent the Bulwarks becoming detached in the distant, (Or near), future? There are many more learned than myself on this site, so maybe others can offer advice? (Pinning) (My experience only....) Go on, you can do it.... Tiny holes.... 🙂 Up to you Chap.... I guess the only downside is that you will have to re-do your paintwork.... You mentioned that you are going to redo this anyway. (The late & Great Frank Manstini, (Ship Modelling Simplified), always recommended "Pinning" stuff.) He also disliked CA adhesives.... Called it "Stupid" Glue. Cheers and Regards, Harry.

No, thank you. I Didn't do enough "Scuppers" on my BNII (As I mentioned, I was happy with it, and still am..... No one who looks is none the wiser....)) I did not have a template and I certainly did not have the skills at the time.... I trust you are not too worried any longer about drilling holes where it matters.... 🙂 Time and patience.... Cheers and Regards, Harry.

I think of a Maiden as something from the 17th/18th century.... or, well before? Call me old fashioned. I think these days it's Miss, Ms or Mrs? Cheers.... Harry. (HOF) -

From Google the correct Ornithological term is "Hen" but is acceptable to call the female a "Duck." The Drake looks especially slick.... Maybe call it "Sir Frances?" 🙂 Looking forward to seeing it on the water. Cheers.... HOF. -

I don't think that attacking the "Hens" is the way to go.... I'd like to see the ladies chase Mr. Vacu Duck.... (Does he have a name?) Cheers....HOF. -
Hi Chap, From other posts on this site, I do believe that A/L are no more.... Are your Stanchions Basswood? (Sorry, don't know anything about Model Ship supplier's in the UK.) Cheers....HOF.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
