  1. Hi Chap, I guess go for it!! 😊 I've seen a review or two here on this site.... (Kit reviews.) I believe there's also a "Diorama" that is available also? I also understand that there is much painting!! Cheers....HOF.
  2. Thanks Chris/Dennis, Once again!! Words of encouragement are powerful.... Thank you. 😊 So, Sanson is on hold for the mo, God knows why, I love the ships, I guess something a little different. My doctrine, (Up until a few months ago), was to concentrate on one project at a time, so, breaking with the afore mentioned....) Off to get a WOF/COF for the Admirals car tomorrow so will have a look at different Epoxies available. (Leaning towards a two part, malleable paste, like strips of chewing gum?) (Mitre 10 Mega Hardware) The broken Aileron Tips are fixed, bent Brass Wire.... Cheers....HOF.
  3. A few photos.... 3 Wings and the Landing Gear "Winglet." And, one of my three Abyssinian cats, (Or, Stomachs on legs, Anubis), trying to be helpful. The Upper Wing Aileron Tips created from Brass Wire as the Muntz Metal broke, never mind.... I'll re-attach some of the Engine components tomorrow with Epoxy, CA proves a little fragile.... Cheers....HOF.
  4. Thanks Chris/Dennis, Yup, something to get myself "Back in the groove." 😊 Not my site.... Someone in the UK. Cheers....HOF.
  5. Hi All, Thought i'd give this another go.... I started this in 2003/4, a Hatchette Partworks thingy. So Engine and the three wings are pretty much done, I have to affix some engine components as the "Muntz," (White Metal,) doesn't take well to CA, so, Epoxy. Stumbling block, Ailerons…. Had to manufacture my own Aileron tips as the "Muntz" fell apart. (The whole thing ts large and heavy.) The kit, (If you can call it that), is comprised of Laser Cut Birch Ply and the afore mentioned "Muntz." I'm pretty sure I've got all the components/issues so we'll see how it goes.... (Got to get inspired somehow after redundancy!! 😊) I'll post some photos tomorrow day. A link if your interested.... http://www.buildafokkertriplane.co.uk/ Cheers....HOF.
  6. Nice start!! Maybe Copper from the Waterline down also? That should ensure "Symmetry" with your Goring Strake/s. (My approach only.) Cheers....HOF.
  7. Hi Chap, Have a look at Mr."Steve Priske". on the Net for Copper Plating. (Awesome practicum.) (Wish I'd seen this before I started the CS....) All the best. Cheers....HOF.
  8. Yup, agree.... One comment, mine has not Oxidised much since 2006.... It has in part.... I saw some time ago, a Chap who "Oven Fried" a layer or two, looked good, Greenish.... Experiment with a couple of Plates maybe? I guess that it's up to the individual, something like 2,500 Plates? 😊 (It's fun....) Just ensure that the Waterline on Port/Starboard is accurate, it's not a good look to strip off Copper Pates. (Been there, done that.) Sorry, I'm not much help here.... Cheers....HOF.
  9. Hi Chap, Yup, the same set of plans, Cutty Sark Society.... (I went to a Print Shop and increased the size to A1? The largest that they could do anyway.... I need to see!!!)) (I don't think that there would be too much "Copyright" stuff going on....) Wot can I help with further? Cheers....HOF.
  10. A very interesting subject Sir.... Looking great!! I recently caught the tail end of "Drain the oceans" regarding the Graff Zepplin. The Russians bombed it to understand how to sink an Aircraft Carrier. ()1947?) From what I understood, only five reached their mark out of many. Cheers….HOF. .
  11. Hi Chap, The "Facsimile" comment was that I did not know what was provided in your kit. Yup, freeing Port covers... I did not anneal and the tabs snapped off, out with the CA and Epoxy.... (Live and learn.) Cheers....HOF.
  12. Hi Chap, All good, this particular Ship will take some time.... You are aware of this I am sure, deep breath.... With the "Freeing Ports" I assume also that Mantua have Provided a Brass "Facsimile" for these? Ensure sure you "Anneal" the Tabs on these.... (I didn't at my cost....) Ship Normal Culture, (If that is the correct term,), Vocabulary.... No worries.... (I don't think I'm perfect either....😊) What did Mantua provide with Deckhouse/Trai boards/Stern "Decoration? (PE of some sort?) If I can "Harp" back to my stuff, I got some Laser etched wood, (Cherry), (Trail Boards/Stern stuff.), from "Double O" Laser Services in the US. (I think that they are pretty much defunct. It was a few years ago.... I came across a comment on another Site some time ago, "Why build a Cutty Sark?" The most modelled ship in history, maybe.... Well, I guess the journey and the challenge.... (The inboard Channels are certainly a challenge!! 😊) Looking forward to seeing your further progress!! Happy to advise if I can possibly do so.. (There a few "Cutty Nuts" here/out there....) Cheers and Regards, Harry (HOF)
  13. Hi Chap, Looking good!! I don't think you have made any errors in the build sequence, my one Pager instructions didn't have any steps at all!! (I just did what you are doing, disregard and do what seems logical. With regards to the Freeing Ports, I had the luxury of the PE Brass Bulwarks so alignment/spacing was not an issue. (Template perhaps?) From memory, I removed the Bulkhead extensions before cutting the Freeing Ports but I do not think that you sequence would upset anything at all. (I assume that "Decorative Wood Strips" are the Rubbing Strakes, or, are these the Head, (Trail Board,)/Stern decorations? Have a good weekend!! Cheers and Regards, Harry.
  14. Hi Chap, Saw this on "History" "Mysteries at thee Museum." (Am I wrong?) The "General" was hijacked to coin a phrase.... (Civil War?) Cheers....HOF.
  15. Hi Chap, Don't worry about the speed, if you do you'll go backwards!! 😊 (Only 50? No stress Chap, your young!! 😊 Me 21 or otherwise known as 58 years young.....) My C/S only took 6.5 Years of weekends, I think that I've mentioned before, 3,500 hours or something like that. With Sails and all the extra tuff you are doing, it will take some time, your build is, as I have stated before, awesome!! My colleague in my last Tenure used to say "So many Ships, so little time." (He was/is a very funny Chap, My chosen pastime I guess.) He was probably correct.... I've got a few ship Models in storage, and, I must get back into the Sanson.... (In my previous post, "Main Rail" should have been "Pin Rail.") Good luck with the Lathe, get someone else to do the lifting!! Cheers....HOF.
  16. Hi Chap, I am sure that it will all come together in the very near future, I don't think you are that far away from completion!! Regarding "Davits" I called on a Billings offerings. I extended the "Vertical" component with a bit of Brass tube and let them into the Main Rail.. And Below, Pinned into the Waterways.... The Skids were modeled on A/L, 2 laminations of 0.5 X 5.00mm Walnut suitably clamped and curved, Brass soldered and inserted into the Main Rail. Mantua Lifeboats were o.k. but for the Longboat/Captains Gig, I fashioned these form a bit of Balsa block, let in a Keel and planked with 0.5mm Walnut. (I figured that since these were upside down, it didn't matter....) (I know that space is tight on the Deck, it was for me too, without Sails!!) (I feel you pain here....I guess that the kit is not as "Scale" as it should be....) Anyway, some hopefully good information, hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs.... As I have said previously, your on to it!! 😊 Cheers and Regards, Harry.
  17. No worries Chap, Yup, it will save a bit of grief.... The Mizzen Top Mast Brace is the Inboard hole and the Main Course,(Mizzen Cross Jackyard?), the Outboard hole in this Block. That was the only error I found in the Campbell plans. (I used A/L Plans also but did not plan for Sails like yourself. (A/L plans were a product of Abyssinians trashing the A/L C/S kit chasing a rather large Bush Rat.)) The thing I found, which may be of use is that you Rig Standing and Running "Aft and Up" Braces "Stern to Stem" Top Down. (Worked for this chap, don't know if that's the norm but worked out o.k.) (I say Top Down as if it's done any other way, you'll paint yourself into a corner, upper Braces are inboard, Blocs/Belaying, lower are outboard, Blocks/Belaying.... It's a real "Spiderweb" esp. for Main and Mizzen Braces.) In my humble opinion, it might be an opportune time to attach your Pendants on all Masts soonish before Backstays, Etc. get in the way, leave plenty of line at the Belaying points for adjustment. When are you attaching Deckhouses/Skids/Davits/Pumps/Hatches//Boats? You might need to consider the impact of these also? In my opinion, get them wrapped before Rigging gets in the way.... I'm happy for any other criticism of this procedure, worked for me after thinking and experimenting for a few weeks/months. I guess also that the rigging is "Live" (It Moves, Mine does.... 😊 (The Yards move in 3 dimensions and difficult to square everything.) Once the Braces are on everything neatens and tightens up, you'll wonder what the problems ever were.... (A caveat, This was the first "Fully Rigged" Ship that I have attempted, others may have a different opinion/method.) Your on to it anyway. 😊 Cheers....HOF.
  18. Hi Chap, Yup, that's the Block!! I initially had a Single tied off there. It was very problematic to replace with a Double. Have fun!! 😊 Cheers....HOF.
  19. Hi Chap, Serious Stuff, Thought I'd remind you since your on the Main Mast now.... The only error that I found with "Campbells" plans was a Single Bock just below the Main Mast Band, Lower Main Course. This should be a "Double" to accommodate the Mizzen Braces. (I had difficulty "Retro Fitting" this, it's really difficult after the fact, a single block is installed and Rigging added, almost impossible.) Have a look-see at the plans.... Anyway, my experience. Cheers and Regards, Harry.
  20. Yup, Agree, an awesome first cover!! Your Cutty is certainly beginning to take shape. 😊 (BTW, I took the liberty of trying to contact Mantua, (Max), to understand if they still had the Brass Bulwarks but the Address came back as invalid.) Cheers....HOF.
  21. Hi Marc, I've got 3 Abyssinian cats that can help with that.... (Maybe not.... Probably cause more grief playing with Rigging....) Happy to contract them at $NZ 40.00 per hour to rid your House and Section of Rats, Mice, Etc. 😊 Cheers....HOF.
  22. Hi Chap, That's an AWESOME job!! Looking fantastic!! 😊 Cheers....HOF.
