foxy got a reaction from Dimitris71 in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Thanks David and Keith.
Yes you right David, its much easier when you have the part to copy, as long as the part you are copying is correct .
So far it has been so.
Yep Keith this is turning out very Interesting, in the nick of time to, was starting on the spars etc as a variation to the build.
Well been busy with more to this ship.
Working on the forecastle, opened up the doors and one for'd hatch.
First coat sprayed with Admil French blue paint.
Using dafi's etch for the gun hatchs, made two more for the bow( sickbay) that I have opened.
.
Again working on the same principle with double sided tape to hold the gun hatch's iplace and number them.
Added eye bolts and hinge's from Dafi's etch set for this ship.
Also at this time working on the boats, the larger barge is not with the kit, so have used the 1/96 USS Constitution but have to extend the hull. did this again copying what others have done to get the right length.
Once dry will sand down.
Used this plastic putty to fill any gaps.
More soon methinks.

Thanks David.
Well after the advise on the plastic spars I had a go at the bowsprit.
First removed the plastic bowsprit ends and added a wood one, have a brass boom for the top half later.
With wood inplace and much stronger me thinks.
Also changed the main mast top spar and added wood and brass final.
Waiting on Cornwall model boats for some more wood.

Thanks folks for all your inspiration and advice, it all helps and appreciated
Next its some of the boats I will be using on this build.
These are models that will need a lot of work.
Also working on the entrance ports, these are Dafi's resin one's.
Lovely detail they are, painted with life color base and brass .
Next an overall picture of the middle deck so far.
Test fitting the masts at each stage.
More soon.

Thanks Daniel shipmate.
Ok unshipped the guns from this deck(middle) added wood dowls to the base from Keiths suggestion for secure fitting.
Drilled and glued inplace.
Next its a test fit of the upper deck, all seems well.
still some work on the stern, but want to finish up to the quarterdeck before finishing the outer hull properly.
Atmospheric view.
Having a break for my trip to the US, so more soon folks.

Ok back on board again.
Having gathered some very fine blocks etc.
These from Syren models.
Plus working in a new location,(warmer as winter comes), so all these items will keep me busy over the festive season.
The parts on the right are white metal from Blue Jacket, have roped all 16 for later fixing to the spars.
Working on the figures too.
These are a very nice addition and are in kit form, will bee needing a few of these later.
They are again from Syren models, and with a little care can be made to work.

Good to have a break keith, gives the grey cells a little peace
Well working on the siren blocks still, with the main and foremast .
First its the Jeer blocks =, all siren products for this part.
Two and three hole config.
Then its the two and one hole blocks that hang underneath the tops.
Some cleaning up to do later.

Well moved on a touch with the blocks etc.
As promised have cleaned up and added blocks to the lookout tops, not sure if the Mizzen mast has these blocks beneath, cannot find any ref to them in my books.
But the Heller kit has three holes each side for them.
Also added the Syen double blocks to the main and fore yards.
Also added the Bluejackets white metal twin blocks.
More later.

Been experimenting with diff size rope/thread to make loops. There are lots of these loop rings.
The smallest rope from Syren seems to be the ticket here.
Needing two each end of the sprityard made me think on this problem.
Just tied around a pin and glued, once set it holds its shape and you just fix to the yard etc.
Will need loads of these later in the build.

Moving on from the yard loops, started thinking on the blocks with this type of loop needed.
So now working diff size blocks with loops.
Also doing sheaves for the main and foremasts.
Using brass sheave and .020 rope.
To give this effect, which will hold ropes later.

Thanks, Pat. I saw that article and it's food for thought and testing. Testing will have to wait though until after the 25th.

There's was an excel spreadsheet on MSW that had information of that nature - I thought.
I experimented to get some idea of what I could get with the material I was using - Dacron sail thread . The thread counts in the image are per strand.

Well...here's my shroud and deadeye factory.
I made five jigs out out of paperclips and bent them to hold the upper and lower deadeyes, then wove the line in the appropriate pattern, then painted them with a thinned 50/50 mixture of PVA glue. Then I cut shrouds to the different lengths needed for th different masts and CA glued them with rough seizings by simply wrapping thin line. Not exactly the super neat seizings you all make, but they're okay. I made the brass clip out of brass straight pins by bending them on a steel rod the size of the inner deadeye circumference. They have a "tail" that I pushed into a pre-drilled hole and I will finish the underside with a fake chainplate made of brass that I bought via the internet from an outfit in Maine.

Still you probably want to leave some extra line. I am assuming this would still be coming out of the forward lower deadeye hole. Then once you have them installed on the ship and the shroud attached, then tie half hitches (I used three) around the should and serve the end to the shroud.

The chainplates will line up with the shrouds when permanently installed and I shall put a few turns of the lanyard before I'm finished. You guys have good eyes.
What you didn't catch is the fact that I made theses deadeyes and shrouds off the ship. I'll show you my shroud factory in a later edition.
