Looking great mate I was beginning to wonder what had happened to you I retract what I said about tapering around the stern as the transition is not severe like I thought,I can see now with the clamps and pegs censored out of the picture
It is my turn now to not update for a bit,as well as doing trim work where there isn't much to show till it's done and having some non model related jobs to attend to

All Righty Then, some more fascinating updates from The Ballyhooer !! exciting ain't it

Well the planking march down the hull towards final victory is on-going.. I have measured and found that I am now well below the Wale line and am almost at the Waterline so it is near change over time to Walnut planking (I don't want to use up all the 'Good' stuff in areas that will be painted, The Wales and the area between them and the Waterline will be black, and there will be a little 1 or 2mm black strip of timber between the Wale and the Capping Rail)
By The Way I also removed the Bulkhead Extension Pieces, just need to be sanded level now. Heady Stuff Eh?

And on that Bombshell it's photo time ..  Oh the excitement  Woo Hoo..

    Dear friends,

I am extremely pleased and honored that you like my work. I appreciate your support a lot.

Thank you all very much for your kind words. There is still much to learn and improve in my work. But mainly I build models for a joy and also education - I like to raise knowledge about history and construction of real ships.

I will continue to build models so that my work was worthy of your words.

To all: I often watch your beautiful work and find plenty of a great inspiration. That helps me a lot and brings pleasure and joy, when I can see, how  wonderful things you are able to create. I am blessed to be here together with you.

Oh yes, the beauty of real Royal Caroline was the main reason, why I chose the RC as a template for my model. Our ancestors were able to build amazing things.

That´s really adorable, your beautiful verses make me happy and caress my soul. I am very grateful.

Soon I will bring more pics, how the work on RC continues. Now I am modelling other crew members and there are plenty of work with them.

Some details are improved or added gradually on the model, for example iron rings under the main channel or pale wooden center in all front "pins" ( i do not know accurate name in English )  for tying ropes.

    Kind regards
    Doris

Sam, What did that pan look like, and how was the stove mounted in it? Your prototype is mounted only on a plate, but your drawings show something that looks like wooden beams below the plate. Do you have, or could you draw, a picture of what it should look like?

While thinking about the stove mounting, I installed and rigged the first six guns. For this I used blocks and rope from Chuck. I can say without hesitation that I am a satisfied customer. I've used Morope in the past, but I like Chuck's stuff a whole lot better and intend to do all of the rigging on Essex with it. After ordering a variety of sizes, I settled on the 1/8" blocks, the .035" line for the breeching rope and the .008" line for the tackles.

I also made and mounted the main cable bitts. These were done in boxwood and are merely a larger version of the fore riding bitts, previously done. I also added the first ringbolts to the deck.

Since I am waiting to receive more carriage kits from the Lumberyard, I will probably do some more work in the bow area, rather than moving back along the gun deck for now.

Would you have a link to his website? I Googled A.Banarov   and it linked me back to MSW on a thread about casting one's own cannons, but nothing about this source. I would like to take a look at this vender's products. Thanks in advance

Thanks much appreciated, Yes you have seen these cannons before. Here is the link for my source. Very nice people, I have traded with them several times. Quickly crossing the pond, and my continent is never an issue, now that the days of Imperial Airways is over.

    Michael,

I was already expecting that question related to the blocks already since the Pamir`s rigging pics had been posted.

I once was on search in the web and at Ebay Shops for this type of equipement and finaly found quite a lot of items that with a Little Tuning only would well suit my Needs, an this all at peanuts priceing....

When sighting the articles available at the Ebay sections for Fashion jewelery equipement I discovered Little metal beads of all sorts in diam. and Color. These I use for solderingthe wire chord Ends to the shroud spanners. Criteria is the Little hole through the bead. The beads are very well solderable (clean Ends and sufficiant flux)

For the single sheaved blocks I use metal double-Loop capsule type bead knot covers, which are available in different sizes Colors quantities. As rollers I again use metal-beads that resemble rollers also in sizes to suit the bead covers. Shall enclose a scetch for explaination....
I would though not use These for historic wooden shipmodels, here Chuck has the correct ones in his Sortiment.

For the mini shackles I use an article from the beadsshop made of brass, nickel galvanized, shall enclose a link

    cheers

    Nils

use bead knot cover "blocks" either for hooks, single sheave blocks or blocks with 2 fastening sides

    Hi Nils
I am glad you find it of interest, your work just reminds me of his.I too have a fondness for the more 'mechanical' ship as well as what I post on here. One day when it comes back out 'mothballs' I shall post some pics of my DSV build. It has been laid dormant for a while as due to the number of working functions,it is not a 'cheap' build.
I would love to build a working steam plant one day when I have collected enough machine tools to do so.I have plans for HMS Inflexible (predreadnought) by John R Haynes and eventually plan to build a model of her with two working steam engines.

    Kind Regards

    Nigel,

many thanks for sharing that link comprising Jimmy Woods work, you`re right, that is very interesting for me as well, and I`ll take myself more time to study and explore that site more intensively.

I love those modelers who build machinery from scratch, modern or historic. I also built a steam river tug with selfmade gas fired Boiler and driven by a self designed and made V-type arrangement 6 cylinder steam engine for RC control. Unfortunately I had a leakage in the Boilers superheater tube coil, and so the model is sitting idle on the shelf for many years already.

More fabulous work Nils I think in some respects, the 1/100 is one of the hardest scales,as when you go even smaller you can get away from using 3d fittings and start using photoetch railings etc.
In the UK,we have a famous modeler called Jimmy Wood who works purely in 1/100.He works solely in wood and brass and everything is scratchbuilt.
All his models are of offshore vessels, however I give you a link to his 'Seawell' build as whilst your and his models are of very different subjects, your methods are very similar.Enjoy

Thanks for your nice comment Nigel,

I found out that doing models in finer scale than 1:95, max 1:100 is not so well producable for me, too much fiddeling and fagile parts. A Limit of course is the length of an actual ship...., for example I would love to challenge in doing one of those famous 4-stacker Atlantic liners between 1900 and WW1.
I have already a beautiful plan for Cunards quadtriple screw "Lusitania" in scale 1:200, that could be magnified, I fell in love with the lines...., but still its a beast in model-length, let alone in scale 1:100, would Need an extra room for that.
