  1. Hi Ray, good luck with this kit! I'm building le superbe from heller, almost identical to le glorieux and it's great. Just take your time with it and I'm sure your model will come out just beautiful. Best regards, Lukas.
  2. Hi Steve, Good luck with your build! I'm sure you will do a great job just be patient and if you get frustrated or upset that something is not going the way you like to, let it rest for a while and continue a couple of days later. She is a beauty if you put some time and patience into her I bought the figures for the figurehead here: http://www.amazon.de/Zvezda-500788068-Historische-Figuren-Set-Spartiates/dp/B004VUL24S/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1435694212&sr=8-4&keywords=zvezda+figuren here you can see a very clear review: http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/review.aspx?id=1848 I just combined some parts of different figures until I had one that was to my liking! Regards, Lukas.
  3. Hi everyone, possible last post for a couple of weeks, because I will move to my own place in two weeks. I have gotten to a point where I can let the beauty rest for a while. I am happy with the progress! This is how she is now: (mind that I still have to tidy up the ends of the tackles and stuff) Thanks and see you in a couple of weeks! grtz Lukas
  4. Thanks Christian! The problem is that is is the finest thread I have: 0,1mm but it thikker in reality I think... I have bought some copperwire of 0,3 mm which seems much finer that I am planning to use on the smallest cannons. The thread is fine for the 18 pounders and because it will be hard to see when it's all coverd up. I tried with the copper wire but I'm not experienced enough to handle it at this moment. That's why I decided to use the thread, for the sake of progress and avoiding frustration
  5. Good evening everyone so I have made a first attempt to rig the tackles for the cannons. What do you guys think. It looks quite pleasing to the eye but I need something for fake blocks...
  6. Tis will be another fascinating build! I am following this for sure Best of luck Dafi! grtz.
  7. Thanks for the compliments guys! B.E. your option looks really great. For the moment I have two possible scenario's in my head. Yours and one personal which involves 0,3mm eyelets converted to hooks, 0,1mm thread and some white glue to make blocks. I will try tonight! Thanks guys! Always stay positive! When something doesn't work, leave it be for a moment, think, take a few breaths and let the solution come to you
  8. Thanks for the advice Dafi! I'm afraid you are right, unfortunately... I will try to find a solution that is both realistic and pleasing to the eye!
  9. Okay..., so I officially have a problem... I recently bought some new material, blocks etc, to rig the tackles for the cannons. Everything I use is massively over scale. Even the smallest blocks (2/2mm) are too big! Actually they are okay but the distance between the two blocks is just too small... It's not working! Aaaargh! I can't believe this. Does anybody have any tips? Any suggestion will be helpfull from here on, because I'm desperate!
  10. Hi everyone! Just a quick update, all the breaching ropes of all 30 cannons have been installed with A LOT of patience but it worked out ok. I'm much more happy about the starboard side cannons than the port cannons. I used a different production process and to change the port side cannons would mean I would have had to rip out all the cannons again. But now at least I know which process to use on the guns for the small guns that will be fully visible. And that's what really matters right? I have also upgraded the capstan that was provided by heller. On the upper gun deck you are supposed to install a capstan also but this will not be visible in the end. So I have decided to use this capstan on the forecastle instead as it is much more better looking than that odd shaped thing that you are supposed to use... Pictures will follow! Further work on the cannons is halted for the moment as I am waiting for some building materials to come in. In the mean time I'm doing some small things like painting & such.
  11. Yes finally some progress to report again! The breaching ropes of the starboardcannons are attached to the bullwarks! Wow that was a tedious job But I like the result! Only 15 to go Pictures:
  12. Looking very good Tom! Thanks for referring to my build, I appreciate it I hope this helps: the rope I use is from caldercraft, 0,5mm and after supergluing it to the deck (as it is the lower deck I did not attach these to rings in the hull) I put some revell modeling glue on the rope itself. It is already quite flexible in itself but with glue you can do anything you want with it. Just hold it in place and wait until it's dry. I just put something on the rope to hold it down. It can be quite messy but if you don't use too much glue it could be all right. If any glue is spilled you can always cover it with some matt varnish and it will be gone you can not see that there is glue on the rope in the end! I am doing some experimenting with this, see my latest pictures for an effort to make more realistic breaching ropes! Oh and for a measure, I cut pieces of rope by taking 5 times the length of the gunbarrel. Grtz, Lukas.
  13. Thank you Jason! It is too late to do this at this stage but I will defintely keep this in mind for the cannons on the quarterdeck, waist and forecastle. Still a long way to go but many thanks for the positive comment!
  14. Well I have tried something and I like it better! It's much more work but it's doable and has a better result than my first try. The first two are the result of my second try and the last one is my first try. What do you guys think?!
  15. Portside cannons installed! I trying to rig the breeching ropes but I'm having a lot of trouble doing this in an unmessy way... can anyone help me with this before I proceed with the other cannons? It would be very helpful! Is there any tutorial available on how to tie off these breeching ropes? Thanks!
  16. I would like to represent the ring Maybe bent it down a little to try to imitate gravity and the weight of the breaching rope
  17. Thank you dgbot! No I have never been to such a show but I would like to one day! Maybe when there's a big modeling convention in Belgium. We'll see would be nice to pick up some new techniques! Thanks Henry, If you don't mind I will do this also but without the ring bolts. This scale and my skills don't yet allow this. I'm afraid that if I will try to do too much that I will burn myself on this build... But I will keep it in mind for my next build of Lindberg's Jolly Roger! More pictures coming soon!
  18. Thankt for the tip Popeye! I have already fill the holes where those eyebolts should go. I intend to make my own chainplates and chains instead of using the way heller suggested! I just don't like that I enjoy this build very much! It's a challenge but I learn so much! So here are some pictures as promised! I finished the eyebolts for the cannons that will be visible. All the eyebolts are vertical now but I think there should also be some horizontal? Can anyone help me on this? I looked up some references and it seems that both all vertical or all horizontal or a mixture of both is common.
  19. Hi all! I want to let you know that I'm still working on this beauty. The 18 pounder cannons of the upper gun deck (is this correct?) are painted and ready to be rigged. I just need to add the breeching ropes. At this time I am installing the eyebolts in the inner bullwarks to attach all the rigging for the cannon. Pics will follow this evening so please bear with me on this! Greetings to all.
  20. I think the wash makes it so much better! Looking good I hope Heller will send you the missing sprues!
