Bow detail completed, and I made plenty of mistakes -- if you are sharp eyed (or even not so sharp eyed) you'll be able to pick them out. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with the overall look.
Some notes:
The instructions call for the figurehead's wrap and the small strips to be blue, but I like green better so I used that color. The lighter piece leading up to the cathead support is something I had to fabricate. The instructions call for brass strip to be "manipulated" into shape, but I tried it and got nowhere, so I used some leftover wide basswood. In retrospect, I should have cut it from a corner of one of the walnut ply laser sheets -- one of my several mistakes here. The instructions say to paint the brass yellow or gold, but I don't get the point. The brass in its natural color looks great. Figuring out what went where was something of a challenge given the instructions and drawings, but there are enough pics on the internet and in build logs that I was finally able to figure it out.
There is also a pic showing some minor progress on the deck.
Now on to the side rails and decorations. Looking forward to that.
Regards,
David

Hey mate, I have been going through your build log. I thought you did a great job. To me, no manufacturer could possibly be any worse than Mamoli. Also, it appears you got a pretty old kit version. I would be hoping that maybe they have upgraded a bit and fixed a few errors. I emailed the owner of an Australian distributer here and he said that the kits were double planked. not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, it represents an upgrade from your single planked hull version.
Cheers

thanks for that. guess I should have looked in the kit log section first! oh well, good to see some have built her already and by the looks of it my questions about quality etc. have been answered. I really like the Mariefred.

Begun the steps and put edging on the fancy flooring. Behind the scenes, the building of the shutters continue!

Has anyone had any experience with this company (Nordic Class Model Ships)? There models look really interesting to me but I would like to know a lot more about the construction and quality before forking out on them. Are they double planked etc? What is the quality/quantity of the timbers used? Is there any plastic (hope not). What about metal/PE parts? How does the overall quality stack up against some of the more well known reputed brands; Amati, Caldercraft Sergal etc?
Here is a link to a company in Australia that has just begun to stock them. A quick search online finds many other reputable companies overseas stocking even more vessels from this manufacturer.

I have emailed Modellers Central about the product but am yet to receive a reply.

Small update.
Front and rear of doors before fitting. A small blob of Blu-Tack stops the door handle from ever slipping out. Drapes are simply cut out of stiffish yellow cardboard.
For the small window in the structure I decided to have curtains instead of fancy drapes. Perhaps a bit out of scale but it looks pretty good irl.
At the front of this structure there is a overhanging veranda which has fancy posts and rails around it. It is also slightly raised from the deck itself. I decided to plank this bit a little bit fancier for the comfort of my passengers.
All structures at this level are only placed and not glued as yet.

Thanks David. The external flooring outside the doors just calls for it to be planked the same as the deck. I just wanted to jazz things up a bit for my high class passengers. I think it will look heaps better when the edging goes on as well as the fancy handrails.

another quick update. a dry fitting of the paddle. still needs some excess glue taken care of and a coat or two of matt clear to finish. the actual red color doesn't look anywhere as bright irl.

also made the lower main staircase. still undecided as to whether or not put down carpet stair runners as per the box art. if I do it certainly wont be the red sticker that comes with the kit!

So, after what seems like an eternity, I have got the shutters on the Port side windows. Each shitter contains about 35 individual pieces They tend to show up a bit dodgy in the pics, but in real life I am really happy with them. again at this point this structure is just sitting there as its way easier to glue the shutters on beforehand.. also the next deck is just sitting there as well.

so, I have completed one side of the interior windows and main doors to the second deck structure. I decided to go with yellow curtains as it is quite dark inside, especially when the next deck goes on as you can see where I have placed it on top to get an idea of how much visibility is inside. again, the whole structure is just dry fitted as I still need to make up and position exterior louvre window shutters on each side of the windows. this should also clean up and square off the window framing nicely. I hope!

Hey Dave, with these metal carriages can you still mount eyelets to fully rig them to the ship. Also, did/have you painted it the red color in the picture?
Cheers
