This should work. There is a german company that sells kits that are based on this principle.
Although their kits are not without problems, the method as such does work.
google for 'GK Modellbau" and 'Duke William" (don't buy: the model does not conform the historical drawings, but you'll see the method)

Well, as you can see in the picture below, I have made a start to modify the gunport lids on the starboard side.  Actually, all of them are now removed and the lids are already cleaned.  What bothers me is that the two-part epoxy cement does not hold worth a tinkers #&%^ !  As mentioned a few posts ago even CA doesn't hold worth a tinkers #&%^.  I wish I have some of Boeing's or Douglas' structural adhesive.  With that stuff you can actually glue an airplane together without rivets.

But, beggars can't be choosers and I'll have use the two-part epoxy stuff.  I woder how "liquid nails" would work.  You know the stuff home builders use?  Hmmmmmm - - - testing time, provided te tube I have is still workable.

Okay, tomorrow I'll start making the parts for the gudgeons and pintles.   I'm still asking myself why I'm doing this - - - making the lids movable but the cannons are secured to the deck and can't even close the ports.

Will let yuns know how things are working out.

    Cheers,

    Hi Piet,

With respect to the hinges, should we read it as a question or as an announcement?
In both cases we all know the outcome

Ah well, the Spanish. You could see it the other way round: not much to get for the Spanish over here, so why invest in a military campaign.

    Interesting view:
Even more interesting question: if this was indeed a succesfull invasion and occupation, why didn't reach OUR historybooks?
Dutch interpretation (as far as I understood) is more that William was used by the English protestant royalists to solve their, entirely English, problem.

Aren't you at the point of "overdetailing" your plug?
The ditance betrween those stripes is so small, i wonder whether you will get a nice mould/hull out of that without a lot of problems of not fully filled details after pouring your hull.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the good word and comments, also those who hit the like button, cheers, very much appreciated.

You'll have to bear with me as I've just down loaded Windows 10 and it's all very strange and I think it's going to take quite some getting used to.

    It's update time again.

As seen in my previous post the Sheer Rail was shaped and cut, well it's now fitted and very secure, I followed Grants lead and pinned and used epoxy resin to fix it permanently.

The outer hull planking is now complete and is just waiting for the bolts/treenails, its been a coat of wipe on poly. The one difference is that I've placed a single strake under the wales, the strakes being Yellow Heart and it all stands out quite well.

Now for the Mortar Bed, all made out of Swiss Pear and it seemed more like a jigsaw puzzle than anything else. However, we prevailed and have come up with a piece that I'm quite happy with. All the furniture has been added as has a coat of poly.

The Mortar, now that was a complete different kettle of fish, made from a 1" block of Ebony it really wasn't a job I was looking forward to. With the lathe screw head fitted and the piece fitted into my lathe and the correct selection of carving chisel's of I went. Now I had pictured in my mind just how this was going to turn out but boy was I wrong, I was absolutely disgusted with myself on my first attempt, so it was time to start again. Fortunately I had enough length of wood to continue and not have to reset, the second attempt was much more successful and turned out to be a keeper, I'll let you make your own minds up about that.

The Mortar and the Bed have now been married up and all clamps made and fitted, all in all I'm quite pleased with this part of the build, it's like a separate model on it's own.

OK, now for the tricky bit, the pictures, I'll most likely lose everything now.

It's not gone quite to plan but I hope you like the pics and as always all comments and remarks are most welcome

Cooling at the outside of the hul. I also finishes the bowplate and some other things. Just decided to make a keel also before making the moulds. Than every hull will be complete with keel.

The drawing is definitvely a Billings drawing. Also, the basic hulli comstruction is Billings, so Billings it is.

Are you using the kit-supplied stuff, or are you making your own?
Your own willl stretch, the kit-supplied stuff will not (or far less)
I did not strtch mine, and it is still resonanbly tensioned.
On the other hand, there is always some stretch. So I did not fix my shrouds directly, i set them up, and did increase the tension after a couple of days.
Only my stays (whcih I made myself) had a tendency to lose tension over a period of weeks.

If it's easy to correct, I would correct the banana-shape: you will notice the banana  every time you look along the hull.....
There is some serious misallignement on the bottom. Is the upperside OK?

Good to see you back again at the table Remco.  Your redo of the pump well looks fantastic, yes, I can see the improvement and bravo for tackling it.
It seems that several of us are in the redo business
