I practiced on a small piece of pear in different mills. The result has very much pleased me and my colleagues!

Thanks for the likes and the comments.
Full disclosure time. The results this time around were not good, but have provided a learning experience. I found, I can produce the tubs, the rails, the roof and assemble them. A couple of errors reared their ugly heads and so it's back to the drawing board. I think I just need to remake the "tubs' and get the error angle and size right.
First pic... doesn't look too bad. I picked a black stain for two reasons. On a test, I wasn't getting the railing sticking to either flat acrylic or flat enamel paint. The second is that the contrast is better. I used the mill to hollow out the inside of the tub, something I'd not done before so definitely learned something.
Here's where the failure hit... the tub is too big and thus the railing goes too far astern and secondly, note the rollup at each of the railing at the roof join. I didn't get the angle on the tub right, The railing needs to lean in more toward the hull.
Rework, re-do time has started... I hope someone else can learn from my screw-ups.

I swear, my next ship is going to be Gaetan sized..... if I can figure out where to put it.
Anyway, keel number 5 is just stuck in position and not glued up yet. Once glued, I'll do the final 3 half-frames but I do have to work on the transom first. That would be that small pile of planks in L-square. I've cut the rest of my planking and it's in the pic.
Just another quickie side-topic.... here's a shot of the setup on my saw for cutting the planks. I set the wood to the fingerboards, move the fence, and cut a plank. Move the wood to the left and then the fence and rip another strip. I do it backwards since I'm left handed. The featherboard is locked down (in this case) to produce a 1/32" thick plank. The wood I'm cutting it from is 1/8" thick boxwood.

This ship's boat business is giving me serious pause for reflection. I at first thought: "Well, I've got a couple of the ME low-budget ship's boat kits...." But they are too generic and not right. If I'm going to do this, I'm going to do it right.
This first pic shows the kit boat with a new keel I thought I'd use...
So it's in the scrap box...
I dug through Frolich's book, re-examined the plans, and also looked at the Bonhomme Richard plans. Seems the French pretty much standardized what boats and sized them accordingly. I dug some more on the best way to do this... Frolich, Bello, various builds here on MSW, etc. Ah-ha!!! Lifts!
After scaling the plans appropriately for all three boats, I generated a set of lifts for the longboat. The barge and cutter will follow if this works. The other alternative is to generate a series of bulkheads/frames like Chuck designed for his boats but I'm trying the lifts first. The one thing that I'll change between the plans and the build is the framing wood dimension. The plans show the frames to be 1/32" X 1/32" (~0.5 mm).. I've tried but I can't cut wood that small, so I'll be using 1/16" X 1/16"(~1 mm) for the frames. Here's where I am now... cutting out the lifts on wood of the appropriate thickness. There's also a small pile of cherry cut to the frame size and a wide strip for the keel, etc.
Now to go see where this path leads....

Thanks for the "likes" and gentle commentary everyone.
I haven't done it before either, Denis.
Rob,
I hit it with 2 coats of wipe on poly. Heavy coats at that. Then I put on 2 coats of furniture polish. On my test piece, nothing stuck to it.
It's a pity there's no dado blades (I double checked the Thurston catalog), or the washers for the Byrnes saw. You do a fantastic job of it, Danny.
Well, after almost a week of sorting out this mold and testing poly and wax for glue rejection, and I won't even get into water supply issues and spring yard work, the mold is ready.
It's been treated as I told Rob (up above) and glued to the base. I have some, but not enough, cherry soaking to make the frames. I'm headed off across the room to cut some from strips.... hopefully, tomorrow I can start actually building the longboat.

HI ALL
SOME MORE COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN MADE.
I STARTED WITH THE FORE , AFT AND CAPSTAN STEPS........THESE WERE MADE FROM EUROPEAN BOX BY WAY OF A SMALL CONTRAST TO THE PRIMARY TIMBER OF CASTELLO BOX.
PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD TO MAKE....THE DADO FOR THE KEELSON WAS CUT ON THE BYRNES SAW.
LIMBER STRAKES ARE UNDER MANUFACTURE...CUT FROM CASTELLO SHEET TO 1/16" THICK BY 3/16" WIDE.
THE INNER EDGE OF THIS RECIEVES A RABBET FOR THE LIMBER BOARDS 1/32" BY 1/32".
I WASNT TOO HAPPY ABOUT CUTTING THIS ON THE SAW SO I USED THE PROXXON MILL.
THE PHOTOS SHOULD BE SELF EXPLANATORY, I HOPE, BUT IF NOT FEEL FREE TO ASK.
THERE ARE THREE STRAKES PER SIDE....THE CENTRAL STRAKE BEING STRAIGHT WITH A SCARF AT EITHER END.
THE FORE AND AFT STRAKES HAVE TOO BE CURVED TO MEET WITH THE KEELSON. I HAVE DECIDED TO TRY CHUCKS EDGE BENDING METHOD WITH THESE AND SO FAR ITS WORKING PRETTY WELL.
MAIN DECK CLAMPS HAVE BEEN CUT 3/16" BY 3/32"...I THINK THERES A LITTLE MORE FAIRING REQ BEFORE THESE GO IN.
PHOTOS ENCLOSED FOR YOUR DELICTATION!
CHEERS....MICK

Making the bell’s ship
+ modification on molding knife;
handle for the blade
sometimes we see a handle on the opposite side, it is a bit more performant
amelioration of the down force on the blade : try for a handle at 90 degres of the blade, allows direct counterforce on the blade;
much easier to make the molding
