  1. Sorry to read about your unfortunate incident Mark, I put these occasions down as salutary lessons to be learnt from. But the positive thing to come out of this is, others may learn from your incident. Although I am sure that was not the first thing on your mind. I hope you heal soon. Regards Martin.
  2. Thank you Grant, there are a few niggling little faults with 3 of the frames, which I see every time I look at it, so best to redo it. So as you say better in the long run. Regards Martin
  3. Well I have at least 6 weeks to ponder on the frames, but I think along the same lines as you Joss. If one is not happy now, time will only intensify ones feelings. But looking on the positive side it will be a good exercise for the fingers. Martin.
  4. Hi Paddy, I am lucky enough to have all of Jim Byrnes lovely tools except the rope walk, and like most people have nothing but the greatest respect for what he makes, they are amazing. You will not be disappointed they are both great pieces of kit..........enjoy. Martin.
  5. Hi guys, thank you for your kind thoughts about my recent incident. Have attached some photos of how the build was going. home made drum sander in action the drum sander the wonderful Byrnes sander where she stands at this moment, but i am not to happy with her, so may re-do it when hand back to normal. and of course the hand, severed the tendon on middle finger and nicked the other two(middle finger had micro surgery to fix it). Bet the surgeon would be good at doing the rigging on our models. All the best Martin.
  6. Hi Rusty, that is a clear and concise method and the end result looks amazing, well done and thanks for showing us. Regards Martin.
  7. Hi Ed, I am assuming that the figures would have been coloured originally (not a road you are going down ?). But I really like the contrasts of the woods. Regards Martin.
  8. Hi Tony, I dont know if it will be of any help, but I have a Byrnes saw and the prices of blades from across the pond are as you know expensive. What I have done is obtained HSS Slitting blades from EBAY there seems to be a varied amount. I have purchased some 3" 1/64 kerf 150 tooth blades for less than £10.00 .There might be something that fits a Proxxon saw there. Hope it helps. Martin.
  9. Thanks Grant, I have pictures of both, the cross section looks better than the fingers at the moment, Martin
  10. Hi folks, Cross section coming along, but have had an accident with my right hand (and yes of course I am right handed) sliced through three fingers. Two stitched back together, middle finger cut through tendon having operation tomorrow to sort it out. And before you ask it was not model related, I was helping a friend out. Will try and down load photos when I can, but left hand not the most dextrous in the world. Martin
  11. Thank you Ed, kind of you to share your skills with us. Martin.
  12. Hi Ed, when you say "push drill" I am assuming it is an Arcamedies type drill ? and when you bolt the iron knees onto the ships timber I am again assuming that the fixing hole is smaller than the bolt size, and if so by how much ? Sorry if it is obvious to all but me Martin.
  13. Hi Ed, one question, when you attach the iron knees do you use CA to fix them to the timber ? Thanks Martin.
  14. Sinan and Paddy, thank you both very much, afraid the weather here is sunny and warm, so the Admiral demands my services in the (dreaded) garden, so no more work at the moment. Regards Martin.
  15. Thank you Anthony, It seems we are both in the same boat (pun intended) Good luck with yours, and whom are you obtaining your timber from? Regards Martin.
  16. Thank you Christian, I can only hope it ends as well as it started, Martin.
  17. ED Stunning work as usual, looking foreword to the next installment. Martin. p.s. and a happy New Year to you also (Part 114)
  18. Thanks Daniel, I only hope that I can come some way near to the ability of some of the modellers here, Regards Martin.
  19. Thank You Pete and Grant, it feels good to have started, now downloading the frames and onto making them. Martin.
  20. Hi Ian, Thank you, The Keel and Keelson are Steamed Pearwood and the False Keel is Walnut. The Pearwood was obtained from Timberline and the Walnut I think I obtained from Charnwood some time in the past. I also bought from Timberline at the same time a block of Lemonwood to do the frames in (Hopefully) Martin.
  21. Hello down here in Cross section land, permission to come on board. I hope with your help to do my first scratch build, and to progress towards doing a full build "one day" Regards Martin.
  22. Maury, that is a great idea. A simple solution to a problem. Regards Martin.
