  1. Well done Ed, It is great to go through it again with you. Martin.
  2. Remco, truly stunning, just when one thinks it cannot get better, someone, (yourself), takes it to another level. Well done Regards Martin
  3. I was going to say looks like you were having "a whale of a time", but that is far to cheesy. But the final result just looks right, not black, but dark enough, but you can still see the fixings. As one of my young trainees at work said after I had showed him the effects of the "Faraday cage" to him,"You is the Man", well Ed I think that mantle is yours "You is the MAN" All the best Martin.
  4. Good grief this is complex Ed, I am glad you are walking us through it, Regards Martin.
  5. Hi Paddy, according to Goodwin the keel would be made of elm "for it's durability when immersed in salt water" and the false keel could be made from beech, elm or teak. Teak because of its cheapness, beech and elm for their durability, Hope this helps, Martin.
  6. Thank you David, Jeff and Mark, I have learnt a lot more from you guys on a better way to use my Byrnes saw, Regards Martin.
  7. Ed, I do admire you for not letting your standards drop, replacing the Knee of the head because you felt it was wrong, where as most of us would not have seen it as incorrect. Well done. Regards Martin.
  8. Stunning work Remco, it looks so neat and perfect "a joy to behold". Martin.
  9. Marvellous Ed, just marvellous. You just say "So much to do, so little time" I have a dichotomy in that i don't want to see the end of this log because I enjoy it so much, but I want to see the final model. What to do, life can be so complex "for i am a bear with very little brain and long words bother me" Regards Martin.
  10. Thank you Dave, as I am starting without one I am going to take Gaetan & Franks advice on the micro motor system and see how I get on with it. Regards Martin.
  11. I to am the fortunate owner of three of Jim's marvellous machines, and it is reassuring to know that the Admiral of the Byrnes family is the one with their hand on the tiller, and not the one from below decks........... Regards Martin.
  12. Hi Gary, Alfred truly is a work of beauty to behold, thank you for sharing it with us, Regards, Martin.
  13. I must agree with you guys that is a lovely cross section, something to be proud of. Martin
  14. Thank you Frank I believe I am going down the road to getting a micro motor over the larger Foredom it will be more suited to the type of work being done. Cheers guys Martin.
  15. Thank you Gaetan, your input is very much appreciated I will certainly look into them(I am glad I have not ordered anything yet) Once again thank you. Martin.
  16. There are two types of heads that can be used (US fittings) or (European) but the motor units are different. And these are sub-divided, there are about 20 different heads for the US variant and 9 I believe for the European type. So as they say "you pay your money and take your chances". One to think about....... Martin.
  17. Thanks 42rocker, yes you can "pop off the head on a Dremel" but I have decided on the Foredom as it seems to be "the best on the block" Good modelling Martin.
  18. Ed, I feel some what let down, I would have thought that being the perfectionist that you are, you would not take the route that most of us do, but would have started the whole project again......tut tut Sadly yours Martin.
  19. Hi Carl, You are correct books here in the UK are 0% rated for VAT and also 0% rated for import. Just wish all that Byrnes gear was, it would have saved me a little fortune. Regards Martin.
  20. Ed, I have to admit "I am in Ed heaven" this seems better than first round. I am sure you did not need the work of re-posting all this work, but you sure are making a lot of people happy. Thanks Martin.
  21. Hi Ed, Would it be possible for the photos you have taken of this build to be available on a disc that came with volume 2 ? Regards Martin.
  22. Hi Wouter, I am unable to comment on the Proxxon saw, but I have a Excalibur EX-16 (from Axminster Tools) which I have found to be an excellent bit of kit, although not the cheapest I will agree. Good luck. Martin.
  23. Hi Guys, just to throw a large stone into the pond, today I received my copy of HMS EURYALUS volume 2, via my nice postman (John). There was no customs charge levied on this package by H.M.Customs, the same with all books i have ordered from Seawatch books (7 in all) . So all I have had to pay is postage and I cannot complain about that. I doubt if this helps in anyway but thought I should state the case in the U.K. as i have found it. Regards Martin.
  24. HI Mark and Pat thank you both for your input, It looks as though the Foredom is the one to get. Once again thanks guys. Martin.
  25. Ed, I am afraid I have run out of superlatives to describe what you are doing, Its just...........a joy to behold. Thank you Martin.
