markjay reacted to Artesania Latina in Important notice about a fraud using AL
Dear friends,
We need to inform you that customers are being targeted by a web spoofing scam involving our brand image.
We don't know the exact scope of the scam or which countries it affects, but we are aware of at least three URLs that are copies of our website, offering our catalog in a supposed clearance sale with deep discounts. The scam is being advertised through various Facebook and Instagram accounts.
We are taking the appropriate legal measures to try to stop this activity.
Our website is artesanialatina.net, no other.
Thank you for your understanding.

OK, small (but big update for us)
We’re Live! Welcome to the New Vanguard Models Website! Our brand-new website is here, making it easier than ever to browse and shop for our expertly designed model ship kits, fittings, tools, and more! As a family-run business, we truly appreciate your support. Check it out now: https://vanguardmodels.co.uk/ If you spot anything that doesn’t seem quite right, please let us know - we’re always looking to improve. Happy browsing! Shipping for UK customers is now free. This have been in the works for over 5 months, and a lot of time and effort, but we realised that the old website was no longer good enough for what we wanted with so many glitches, so now the whole caboodle has moved from Woocommerce to Shopify.

OK, I finally have the 33 (and a bit) foot Royal/Admirals barge/shallop in stock. This main file went through a lot of changes before I was happy with the final print, so now, compared to the first file, this should be a lot easier to add the pear parts.
64th scale – length 158.5mm 48th scale – length 211.3mm
33′ Royal/Admiral’s Barge – VANGUARD MODELS
All 3-d printed boats:

Here are some pics of the 48th scale version that Jim (Hatch) has just completed, he has done a great job! For this one, it will be all about the painting..
The base and cradles are included with this one (2mm Pear), as I thought some may want it as a standalone model, and those that would like if for their model ship can use the cradles only if they wish.

For those that have been asking for a smaller boat, I listened, and have this little cutie almost ready to produce, a 14 foot yawl! Am yet to print the first one, but the STL file looks good, so don't envisage any problems with it. Would suit smaller vessels like cutters or something like Endeavour.

There will a light set as an option for Surprise, and soon for Indy and Sphinx:
I already have these is stock, not yet added to site yet, though.
The set includes 10 candle-effect LED lights, 4 continuous lighting LED lights, a battery holder for two AAA batteries and another one for a button cell, a switch, 8 meters of red and black cable, half a meter of heat-shrink sleeve and one meter of tin.

markjay reacted to James H in HMS Harpy 1796 (production prototype) by James H - FINISHED - Vanguard Models - 1/64
This is likely to be my penultimate update as the next one should show this rigged and finished. That'll be a nice way to conclude this, so until this, these are a few photos of Harpy's masting, including some photos of the yards, gaff, boom, spritsail yard and the completed bowsprit. I've concluded this with a photo of Harpy as she currently looks. No text is really needed for this as the photos are self-explanatory and perfectly follow the convention you've seen in other VM build logs. Hope you like the results so far.

We're going to do something a little different. We'll start a log which will show you some of the design processes as they move along, culminating in the prototype build.

Hello everyone, it has been a quick minute since I’ve posted here I’ve just about finished the hull of the ship besides painting. I didn’t take many pictures going through this but here’s the ones I have I continued to plank by soaking the wood in hot water which worked pretty well, it was a little tricky for some of the planks but I was able to sand down the mistakes mostly
After planking for what felt like forever I planked the deck which was a nice change of pace because the deck was mostly flat so it was pretty easy to not mess up. After the deck I did the upper siding which were to long pieces, one for each side, I placed the first one in, kept it until I placed the second one in and liked how the rims didn’t go outward so much so I took the first one off and re did it.
then I went to plank the back of the ship which wasn’t the most straight forward because I hadn’t sanded fully the end of the planks for the main part of the hull so they stuck out a little. I know I should’ve just sanded them down but I was lazy so I just placed the planks over it and making the planks thinner as I went down to fit the strip that holds the rudder.
I then basically finished the hull but was unhappy because there were some mistakes and a few holes from planking so I used gorrilla glue wood filler to fill those in without sanding the filler it looks quite awful and looks like I beached the boat but after sanding it looks quite nice.
Unfortunately I did not get many pictures of the building process but here are the photos of the progress I have so far. I am super happy with the outcome and am gonna go ahead and try to paint the boat next after some minor touch ups.

Props to you for jumping right in! I wish I could have had the patience for this when I was a kid. Don't let it get you too frustrated and keep finding creative ways to get things done. As far as your mom and the iron, it may be worth asking. Ironing wood should be no different than ironing cotton as far as the iron goes.

Hi, Jacob.
It looks like you have made a good start. A great skill for any ship modeler to master is the ability to come up with creative solutions on the fly, a skill you seem to be well on your way to acquiring.
Here's a link to the resources page at the NRG website. If you scroll down the page, you'll find some articles on planking.

And here's the link to the list of local ship modeling clubs. If you live near one, I'm sure they would have members willing to help you out with your project.

Good luck!

Just a little update,
I have had quite a few enquiries asking if I will ever have the Flirt Master Shipwright in stock. I was going to retire this, as I could no longer get the machined blocks that are standard with this kit.
However, I now have really nice CNC machined blocks in stock again, so have ordered enough boxwood and 3mm birch ply to produce a small run of these kits. When I say 'small run., I do mean that, not 'Limited Edition' of 'only' 1000! I will do two runs of 6 kits, 12 in total. The only change I made from the original Master Shipwright Flirt is the 18' cutter, which will be a 3-D printed hull and laser cut boxwood floors, seats and oars.
Regarding Harpy, I have completed all of the A1 size plan sets and started the manual. Once Jim has completed the model and I finish the manual, the kit will be released - am thinking October time.

Hello MSW! I'm thrilled to have found this forum and am excited to connect with fellow modelers. My name is Josh, and I'm originally from Maryland, though now I live in Arizona, near Phoenix. That may be partly why I'm drawn to model ships, as they remind me of family day trips to the Chesapeake Bay, walking around Baltimore's inner harbor, or visiting the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. While I've spent very little time on actual boats, I love reading about naval history, especially some of the great fiction series, such as Hornblower by Forester, Master and Commander by O'Brian, and Ramage by Pope. So although I'm just a beginning modeler, I hope to try my hand one day at some of the classic sailing warships. For now, I'm in the middle of my first full build (the Sharpie Schooner by Midwest) and will go ahead and start a build log, welcoming any and all suggestions. I've already benefited from scanning through some other people's Sharpie builds, so I'm excited to learn more and improve. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post, as I currently work full time, still have young kids at home, and am one year into a doctoral program. But when I do find a few minutes to work on the model, I find it to be a welcome break. Hope to connect with you in the chats!
