CDW reacted to Landlubber Mike in Brewster Buffalo 239 (Finnish) by Landlubber Mike - Special Hobby - 1/32
With the fit issues on getting the fuselage closed up, I thought it would be better to add as much of the interior as possible to one of the fuselage halves, rather than trying to install what are three or four separate assemblies into the fuselage halves and then trying to get it closed up. Taking this approach allows me to position the sub-assemblies on one half of the fuselage, and while the glue is drying, test the fit and get the final location by dry fitting the other fuselage half over it. Takes quite a bit of time, but I think it will be less painful in the long run.
Instructions are ok I suppose - generally there are no locating marks, pins, etc., so you have to sorta guess where the instruction arrows point you. Thankfully there are other builds out there on the web to doublecheck yourself.

CDW reacted to Landlubber Mike in Brewster Buffalo 239 (Finnish) by Landlubber Mike - Special Hobby - 1/32
While waiting on parts to dry on my Walrus for otherwise just needing a break from it, I started the Buffalo 239 Finnish version from Special Hobby in 1/32. Since I just finished their 1/48 Buffalo kit, I figured I might as well tackle this one given I know what to look out for. Unlike the 1/48 kit I just finished, this one I will be building mostly out of the box with considerably less aftermarket.
The kit is like the 1/48 kit (and probably most SH kits) in that in addition to the plastic, you get resin and PE details in the box. It's been interesting comparing this to the Airfix Walrus that I'm working on. The Airfix kit has great fit but a lot of flash and injector marks and other cleanup that you need to do. This Special Hobby kit needs much less cleanup, but the fit is not the greatest. I can tell already that I'll have a big gap closing up the fuselage forward of the cockpit 🤬 But, so far this has been an enjoyable build over the last week or so.

There is an example of a Protar Bianchi 350cc on Ebay right now, but from the photographs of it does not appear to contain metal parts, just plastic.

CDW reacted to bartley in Stagecoach 1848 by John Bartley - FINISHED - Artesania Latina - 1/10
Thanks for your kind words, CDW and others for your likes. Yes, an interesting period of American History - at least in the case of the Concord coach. Stage coaches were operated in Australia as well by a company called Cobb & Co which was in fact set up by two Americans. They were run initially to the goldfields in the 1850's and later between cities and ran well into the early 20th century since our railways were established later than yours. However, they were of much simpler design than this one. The cabin was simply a straight planked box with no decoration, although they did sport the Concord suspension system.

Yes, these Protar kits are amazing. I would say this kit was probably manufactured in the early 70's if not before.

Ras, do you have an idea of what year this kit was manufactured? The details are remarkable.

Seems counter intuitive that no padding is better. The alternative to no ejection even worse. Got to be one of those things you hope you never have to do. What about the straps hanging off each side of the headrest. What do those do?

Making some progress on the Walrus. Managed to get the interior base coat paints down along with the color PE parts, and started a little bit of the weathering. Should be able to button it up in the next couple of days.

My grandmother told me she was a Viking descendant. When I hear "Viking Funeral", I think of how she would give me a switching for chasing her chickens. She used a peach tree switch. I can tell ya for certain, it got my attention and it left me no doubt, she was a Viking.

I think it looks great. I don't know of another motorcycle kit that looks better than this one you're doing.
Totally agree with this approach. Walk away, cool off, and come back to it later. I watched a modeler on a YouTube video who literally dropped a cement block on top of his 1:32 scale aircraft model, smashing it to bits because he didn't like the way it sat on its landing gear. Don't know why he didn't just shorten or lengthen the gear to suit his taste.

Guys thanks for the comments and the likes. This kit is getting to be a little more difficult than expected but I am determined to finish it.
Today I painted the engine parts prior to assembly. Also worked on the handlebars. A total of 20 pieces.
I was amazed at the detail on this kit. The handle is actually rubber
Following is a print of the directions so that you can see the number and the rather simplistic way of suggesting the assembly.
Next went the seat, also super detailed.
The seat will lay over four mini springs, about 1.5 mm in diameter. Loops were to be made in order to hook the springs to the frame. The instructions indicated how to make the end loops to mount the springs. No way Jose. It was quite a difficult task as the spring doesn't like to be bent. I finally sort of made it by holding the body of the spring in a vise. The result was not very pretty but, again, it will not be visible since the leather seat actually lays on top of the springs.
Boy, am I having fun or what? More tomorrow.

I've heard of many doing this or similar....think Viking Funeral for one way. Not sure why. Maybe it's just frustration.

I only realized the seat offset while test fitting the rear instrument panel to the back of the front seat, where an alignment block on the back of the seat fits inside a corresponding rectangular hole on the instrument panel. Looking at it, I wondered why it was offset like that and even thought it might be some kind of engineering defect. I'm glad you brought it up, because I didn't see an explanation of it in the kit instructions and would still be scratching my head over it. 🙂
