Thanks Andy, I put Bob there to get daylight pics. At no time was there any danger...no animals were used in the building of this product. Thanks Brian, Not sure where it will end up yet......not really my decision ......... Thanks Wayne, Nope...no float test... Unless there is a boat parade and in that case, a truck will pull it on the float..... Thanks Mark! Thanks Anja! Thanks Mario, And Old is a state of mind...... You can prevent "Old"...you can't prevent aging..... :D In Cub Scouts I built the Lee out of popsicle sticks, tongue depressors amd match sticks. Wish it had survived! Gotta watch out for those 'vintage' ads....... :D Thanks Adrieke! Thanks John! Thanks Grant, I'll be posting the stagecoach at www.woodworkforums.com It will be in the Toy Making/Scale Modeling Forum. And the house belongs to the in-laws. They go to Indiana for the summer so we are staying here, probably until September.... Thanks Sjors, And thanks for the vote of confidence for multiple builds.... Since the stagecoach has a couple Winchesters and the Lackawanna is unarmed perhaps I can use the rifles on the ship...... Cheers, Jim

The BOB is finished........ At least to the degree that I wish to stop. There are no anchors. (as discussed previously) I have chosen not to add the myriad small flagpoles and paper flags. (They can be added later if the BOB is ever in a boat parade) My upfit does include logs, cotton bales and barrels. No people since the n-scale size looks goofy and there are no other available. This has been a fun build and I'd like to thank all those who just looked in, or added comments or questions. It is quite an incentive to know others are watching and enjoying one's build. My next MSW venture will be the Lackawanna by Bluejacket. I chose this because it was originally used to haul anthracite coal. My grandfather was an anthracite coal miner, working for the Colonial Coal Company at the Natalie Breaker. This ship delivered to markets along the East Coast. Before starting the Lackawanna, I'll be starting my stagecoach on another site. But that won't keep me from here....watching everyone elses builds! I'm actually going to try a 'Sjors' and start the ship before I finish the stagecoach....we'll see how that goes..... Cheers, Jim

Jared, Good work on the deck braces. My kit came with instructions to buld a jig to make them. Not sure it was easier or faster, just different. And my Bob doesn't have those boiler guard things.....it has lapped sides on the boiler...can't wait to see how yours looks... On another note, I've about finished it up and will be posting completed pics some time soon.....I'm building again!!! Cheers, Jim

Sjors, Nice portside pics. And I am impressed that your gunport hatches operate.... Since I am the first one awake, I always make the coffee at our house! Cheers, Jim

Sjors, The pictures look fine...good progress on your least favorite task. When I was doing deadeyes I made a fixture and did them all off the ship and then rigged them matching side to side. Not that it makes much difference but it seemed less taxing to me than having my rattled nerves constantly at the side of the ship. Cheers, Jim

Jared, Looking fine! And I agree that the stain is going to keep looking better as more is added although it looks good now. I have yet to mount my Bob. Not sure why, just haven't got around to it. I drilled the holes very early and then set the mount aside somewhere..... Keep up the great work! Cheers, Jim

Thanks for looking in Geoff. This is my second run at this.......When I was in Cub Scouts back in the 50's I scratch built it out of popsicle sticks, wooden matches and tongue depressors....sure wish digital cameras had been invented way back then...... Cheers, Jim

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
