Small update - last set of pics above were premature. Fo'c'sle and poop deck are mostly done. Anchors and bowsprit stays and martingales installed.

Having just recieved this book I can agree it is a very useful book for anyone interested in the smaller unrated sloops and their development.
Full of useful information, even to giving some tables of how well some of the classes sailed, and how their rigging differed to non-RN ships of the same type.
If you have an interest in the sloop classes it is a worthwhile addition to your library. Mine is the later snow rigged sloops.
At the moment it is offered ay 63% off its £40 rrp at Naval-Military-Press plus postage. (I have no connection)

On the forward winch behind the hatch there are two 4 spoke "cogs" over which the chain was placed, matching the "cogs" on the winch under the foredeck.
This lifted them over the hatch and made for an easier run into the chain pipes behind the winch.

I'm sad that in the near decade since it was written, there has been no word on a possible second volume, which would have taken us through the American Revolution, the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, the War of 1812, and beyond.

    I've made some progress...

The fo'c'sle furniture is mostly installed. The running light housings are installed (I'm not sure I'm completely happy with those yet, but they're easily replaced).

The pin rails and main deck deadeyes are installed. The pins are blackened brass, as will be all pins in this build.

The porthole windows for the aft deck house arrived so those are installed now. I'm very impressed with the manufacturing tolerances of both the 6mm and 4mm windows. The plastic "glass" in them fits perfectly - no small feat at this tiny scale. The roof is only resting on the house at the moment, I'm working out how to fix some light leakage from around the roof when the LED lights are lit. The walls of the house are not fully glued in yet either for a similar reason. That's why it looks a bit goofy at the companionway entrance - another easy fix. I may use thin vinyl tape inside.

I'm not sure what I'll do next - there are lots of options. Maybe the anchors and bowsprit, maybe more of the deck furniture, I'm not sure yet.

    Hi Thomas.
It looks like it doesn't it!
Took me a while to find this as the newer instructions are diferent to mine.
Are you using the motorising kit? Even if not don't glue the plate on just yet!
The backplate is made up and held in place with elastic bands (page 77) to help with the positioning of the upper deck, uprights and fencing.
It's not glued into place just yet because it needs to be removed complete a future stage more easily.
Look ahead to page 228 section 34 in the instructions where it details the paddle making and attching process.
There aren't any locating lugs for the backplate for a reason - the paddlearms go through the outside slots and a rubber band through the inside one on the left to attach to the motor.
    See pages 234 and 235.
If you're not using the motor then the inner slot can be planked over.

    Looking good!.
Just dug my old instructions out - it used to be a thin ply wall covered by 0.5mm thick walnut planking that splintered everywhere.

    HI there.
I'd like to follow along too. I've the older kit, partially completed on the shelf at the moment for about 18 months due to life!
I do still have the printed papers if you need a help.
Major differences are the photo-etch brass, the bow stairs to the upper level (changed from spiral to straight / spiral - much easier!) and the paddle axle has more spacing.
There are several other builds completed on this site - just ask if you have questions everyone is very helpful!

    Edit.
Just seen the pictorial instructions for this version, and they are much better than the original ones!
    Cheers,
    Bob

I worked out the nav light mounting. I still need to build a housing for them. I'll model it after the full scale enclosure.

The control box is working out well. The usb-c through-hull connector is very discreet. It is on the "back" side of the model - this ship will be displayed with the port side facing out.

Thanks for the looks and likes!
As usual other things really slowed this down, however some updates.
I started to paint the coppered hull, but it looked awful. So i tried copper tape rivetted with a pounce wheel.
At this scale the proper look was a bit too tiny for me, but I think this looks ok-ish.
(The pic is much larger than the model!)
For the rubbing strakes I used Evergreen strips of varying thickness, 0.5mm x 0.2 or 0.1

Not perfect, but a little better than the slab of wood with painted rope that the instructions say.
Next job, try and fit a bulwark rail :-) and the rudder to fit.
    Cheers for now,

Long delay- lots of filling, waiting 24hs, sanding, repeat. Break beakhead, fix, repeat.
We're just about right I think. Added a new false keel, sternpiece and stempiece, shaped the beakhead and cut out the forecastle to make and fit an approximation of the anchor winch.

Looks smooth until you get to the close up shot!

Needs a final sand and smoothing with 1000grit before painting, plus the sides raising.

    Spare time not wasted -
NO measurements given for any of the deck houses so I've measured them on the 1/96th and converted to 1/250th, or as close as I can cut 😅 !
I can post them if anyones interested.

Going out of my comfort zone after the hull is finished with enhancement ideas.
Got some Evergreen strips to see about simulating at least some of the door frames and mouldings.
Portholes - instructions say glue little rings meaning eyelets.
For the moment they'll be drilled out although I have an idea for proper looking ones using drilled out plastic sprue to give an outer ring.  We'll see.
I've also measured for the spreaders and main tops for scratch build.
And to top it all I've had to redo my PC from scratch.

    Cheers for now,
