Gerhardvienna got a reaction from Elijah in USS CAIRO by Gerhardvienna - RADIO - live steam
Hi Mark
I dont think I will need more notches. I have made the cutouts for over 40 frames, this will be enough for a good stability. Most frames are set at the bow and stern sections, less in the middle, but the whole hull will be stiffened with 2mm plywood inside, and 2mm planks outside. So this will be a really solid hull, strong enough for the steam equipment. No new pics today, just setting frame after frame after frame....................
Thank you all for your interest & likes!
Regards
Gerhard

Looking grand, Gerhard. Will you be cutting notches in the rest of the keel for the frames? If so, how? I'd think it would be easier to cut them before mounting to the build board.

I re lined off the hull with art tape. Does anybody know of any clear tape that can be drawn on with a pencil and is 3" wide? The stuff I used for my first plank required me to use a thick sharply, and the plank looks squiggly. Obviously, I'm not going to use that plank. The French curve helps you connect the points in a curve for the plank, and helps when cutting it out. I also had to redo my strake math. I double checked the plans and the planks are 12" at midship, or 1/8" at my scale. I am to have 15 strakes, with the garboard being a bit wider than the other planks. Also, thanks for the pointer Mike, I double checked and adjusted the stern, so it should be good now. I guess I will be held up here until I can find and buy some other tape . Anyway, here are some pictures.
Thanks for any tips and advice! Until next time!

When you prepare yourself with knowledge and data, you can spend on Kalemegdan whole day ... and another day ... and day after, and there is no way to see it at all
You are wellcome, Carl !
Without history, there is no well understanding of today.
Considering you are relative close in comparison with other MSW members, if you decide to come to Belgrade, I can be your travel guide to some interesting places, if you will be interested
On the other side, in my life I had been in France, Germany, Romania, Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, and of course, in all former Yugoslavia republics, but had never been in Vienna, even it is only 650 km distance. And Vienna is ... just ... Vienna, one of the most famous and most nicest town in world with long and interesting history. Prague and Vienna are in plan for future. Also Spain, Albania, Poland, Northern countries ... Life is too short ...
Works continues ... still 25 dead-eyes to be made ... slowly, slowly, slowly

Hi Elijah
Thank you!
She MUST come together , now the work starts. In times I dont glue frames to the keels, I`m studying plans and drawings from sternwheeler engines, so I will be able to draw and construct my own machine. All the plans I know at the time show too large engines, so I have to make a full new one.

Hi Bob
Nice job at those vents! I like to make them from plywood, i feel more confident with it. Styrene is a material i`ve never worked with.

Hi Nenad
I must visit that somewhen! I was just in former Yugoslavia when I was a kid, that was in Savudria, and never then. But as I know, there are so many great places to see!
