Haliburton reacted to RGL in The War Trophy by RGL - diorama with Fowler D6 steam tractor (DModels) and Krupp 21 cm Mörser (Takom) - PLASTIC
I’ve made a start on hand painting the figures. Being civilians I wanted to mix up some colours. One I get my base coat down I’ll give it a clear coat before weathering

Haliburton reacted to Egilman in Keeping my head in the game.....
Another Update, I know it's been a while, but this part took a bit of time to re-design....
Front Springs...
And the bottoms....
All correctly laid out...
They might look a little weird when compared to normal leaf springs, this is because they are asymmetric leaf springs... Asymmetric means that one end is longer than the other...
This particular set of springs were 2" x 35" with a 15" forward axle mounting point leaving 20" behind the axle.... They have been through 8 iterations before I could finally get them to configure into a solid block and still look like the real thing...
An overall view...
They do look good if I do say so myself... {chuckle}
Anyways, I'll be taking a few days to do some RL stuff before starting on the rear springs... (shouldn't be too bad as I now know how to do them)
That's all for now, Onwards.....

Haliburton reacted to Egilman in Keeping my head in the game.....
Update;
Well starting off the rear springs, First we need the mounting plate....
The spring lays across the top and is bolted through the bottom on all four corners.... It also pivots on the shaft of the Mounting Bracket...
Here it is attached to it's bracket....
And in it position in the frame....
Next up, the upper rear spring itself.....
Onwards...

Haliburton reacted to Egilman in Keeping my head in the game.....
Well another update...
Rear Springs, I was hoping that I would be able to use the springs I had already made to build the second version... Unfortunately no That wasn't going to work so I've set about building a whole new set of Rear Springs.....
And in measuring it against the detailed photos I now have I found that I also needed to rework the Bracket as well to more accurately reflect it's true position on the car... 3/4ths inch closer to the rear and up at the turn of the curve on the frame rail...
Then I added in the old springs and the ends sat way to low, so I was forced to completely rebuild the springs reflecting the correct measured position on the car... The curve is now accurate, 40" long by 2" wide with a 3" drop at each end...
I've included two pics showing the current iteration colored in the cars natural yellow color....
And one of the spring itself showing the upper mainspring and first leaf...
and it's one solid piece as well....
Next posting when the spring itself is finished...
Onwards.....
-

Well the Upper Rear Springs are done....
And the bottom side...
And an overall view....
Now I have to repeat this but upside down to complete the lower half....
Onwards....

Haliburton reacted to Paul Jarman in RMS Titanic 1912 by Paul Jarman - Amati - 1/250
Not actually Titanic related. Just wanted show my next project when I finish Titanic. Wanted this for ages. Over 900 parts and photo etch to replace all the railings and other bits.maybe before the end of this year I may finish Titanic and start a build log for this.
I'm working on Titanic's stern at the moment. Most of the poop deck and we'll deck fittings are painted and ready to install. I have reverted to the plastic benches supplied with the kit. I built 8 of the photo etch benches and they where just to large. once again should have taken a photo to show how They looked. They dominated the deck and the various fittings. They looked so out of scale with everything else on the model. I did try cutting them down but it didn't work.
I am building the 6 cranes that go on the stern. They are a pain. Gluing the small sides to the crane jibs is a chore.

Haliburton reacted to Danstream in DeHavilland Mosquito FB Mk VI by Danstream - Tamiya - 1/48 scale - PLASTIC
Hi all,
here I would like to start and share with you my new build of the wooden wonder De Havilland Mosquito 1:48 scale. The kit is the old, but still very nice Tamiya of the FB Mk VI (Fighter-Bomber).
Since long time, I wanted to build a model of this aircraft because of its fame and because of its remarkable design. For me, this is the first Mosquito build as a grown up modeler if I exclude the ancient Revell 1/32 kit that I built when I was a kid.
To start my build, I followed to the letter the Tamiya instructions which called the engine nacelles as a first step:
For added 3-D effects, I just thickened the frames of the nacelles and added few interior details. The white panel shown on the inside walls is an artistic license of mine having used a piece of thin styrene to hide annoying ejection pin marks which I didn't want to fill and sand. In the following, the nacelles are shown completed:
They are test fitted with the wings and with the main undercarriage struts to check that no interferences with the new added parts are present:
I was a bit puzzled by the way the main undercarriage is supposed to be assembled. If I follow the Tamiya steps, I am going to get the large wheels in the way when I will have to finish off and paint the truss structure. Actually, it is desirable to be able to install the wheels only after everything is assembled and painted. To resolve this issue, I removed altogether the molded plastic wheel axles and replaced them with a brass tube 1.6 mm dia. that can slid in and out as shown in the picture.
Once trimmed in length, the new axles could be slid in place to install the wheels at the most convenient moment. Without the wheels in the way, I could assemble and finish the undercarriage structure properly and fit the brake lines made of lead wires. I also drilled lightening holes in the supports of the mud fenders to add a little, but nice detail. Here the completed undercarriages are posed within their locations on the lower wing halves which have been painted interior green.
I read that to improve commonality of parts, the real undercarriages were not handed, but I left them as they are intended in the kit because their modification it would have been a complication for me. Finally, the nacelles were glued in place and the half wings were completed. The undercarriages are now ready to be painted.
Not much, but that's all for now, thanks for having you following,
best regards,
Dan

It's under consideration! Big issue is where to display it. The ship models already take up all the display space. I have maybe 30 completed armor vehicles stored in plastic containers because I ran out of space.

Here's my interpretation of the seats for the Ferrari 288 GTO Yellow. Are they close to correct? I'm not sure, but they will have to do.

I robbed the .50 caliber machine gun from my Walker Bulldog kit to use on another tank project. I ordered this little kit to replace the machine gun. It's a shame to pay 1/3 the cost of the entire kit for one itty bitty machine gun but I did. SSMODEL SS835866 1/35 Model Upgrade US Browning M2 HB 0.50 Machine Gun 1pc | eBay

Do you have "Ollie" stores in NY? They bring in cases of random model kits from time to time and sell at a deep discount. Typically, model car kits that normally sell for $30 and up are selling for $12.99, sometimes less.
A couple of months ago, I bought a brand new 2 cycle string trimmer/edger for $69.99 at Ollies. That's less than half the cost of Home Depot or Lowes.

Stopped by the Hobby Lobby store today; the model kit area had a sign "All boxed kits 40% off". So I browsed the shelves, mostly cars, way down on the lowest shelf were 5 Tamiya Walker Bulldog kits. Sale price after discount was $13.19. 😲 Picked up another kit, was very tempted to buy 2 but resisted the temptation. So Walker #1 will have a companion tank. 🤔

Haliburton reacted to Old Collingwood in Battle of Waterloo Attack on La Haye Sainte Farm by Old Collingwood - 1/56 (28mm)
Just as a little teaser - I have placed my Two British Cavalry figures on the roadway just in front of the Two 95th rifles, I will take pics of them later.......
So this side of my dio is getting close to being finished - I will also add some loose left items like - muskets - backpacks - hats perhaps even a shoe or Two, then I will be turning the dio around and starting to work on the scenery on the other side.

After doing some research it looks like I need to do a bit of scratchbuilding, from some of the photos it looks like there should have been a porch building on the outside of the farm house around the door leading to the garden, I will try to male one using the photos like this one, with the bits of board I have to hand.
Photo off the net.

Today, I fashioned those "wings" next to the breather boxes I talked about yesterday. I painted the cover with wings, silver as can be seen in the stock photos. Here's how it looks on the model.
Next, I consulted reference photos of the interior on the net. The kit instructions call for the seats to be painted in black with the center panels in red. This seems totally wrong to me with a yellow car. A yellow Ferrari with black and red seats is going to look ridiculous IMO. Unfortunately, I could not find reference photos of the interior in a red car, so I am going to guess they would be black with yellow center panels.
My intention is to use liquid mask to cover each little panel in the center, then paint the seats black before removing the masking to show the yellow.
Last, I gave the entire body a good wet sanding before laying down another good wet coat of yellow lacquer.
