    Hi Marc,
Just catching up on your Cutty Sark log. It's very impressive and I am rather envious of how far along you are. My rigging jobs are beyond the horizon...
Anyway, just wanted to say how good your rigging looks so far. And the whole model too. Great work.

Hi Allan. Fantastic work on your masts! They look like the real deal!

I came across this youtube video which you have probably seen, but maybe not. I really enjoyed watching it. Not the best quality but the ending is kinda fun!

    Hi
I started mounting the rig but it takes time, so to start with the easy one I started with the bowsprit just to get started.

    Cheers All.

I just completed the last steps before moving on to the lower hull planking. First, I added the anchor lining using the laser cut parts and strip. Next, I did the fairing cap, using the laser cut hance pieces, strip wood for the quarter deck pieces and for the temporary waist pieces, and pieces cut from cedar sheet for the bow pieces. After all those pieces were in place, I completed the fairing of the inner bulwarks. This was tedious, but not as bad as it might have been , since I had done a good deal of the fairing before.

Now, it's time to dig in and line off the lower hull and do the planking, a formidable looking task.

Beakhead bulkhead installed & second planking finished.  Lots of sanding to go yet, then the upper gun deck ports will be opened up & lined.   Pardon the dust - I haven`t cleaned anything up yet.  A little paint touch-up will be needed after sanding.  Plenty of planking strips were supplied - I probably have enough left to plank a small ship!

And ... She made it ok!

The new owner is a gentleman in his 90s, who 'always wanted' a model of Swallow having read the books pretty much when they first came out. He loves it: I'm so pleased!

Nearly there. Got a decal to add and some final ropework before she's complete!

Hello everyone I have finished the lower fore topsail with its special bearing support device. I've made it movabel like on the real ship - unfortunately, one thing that won't be seen when it's all finish  one day, but I'm glad to know that it's working properly.

I also worked on the foc'sle. My initial attempt did not work out so well as I was using the deck the previous owner had cut out. It proved to be too small and there were large gaps between it and the hull planking. Unfortunately I had already planked it so that proved to be a waste of effort, and wood...
Again, I traced the outer contour of the hull in that area and got the shape of the foc'sle deck. I applied the planking while the false deck was in place because I wanted the camber. To do this and hold the planks in place while the glue was setting I could not use any type of clamping. So I devised a new method of holding them in place with magnets. I taped the magnets to the underside of the deck and placed the other magnets atop the glued on deck planks.
Here are a couple of pictures to show what I mean.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been back at it on my build. I decided to do lots of prep work before tackling the hull planking. First I laid down all the deck planks. No small task on a model this size. Once they were all in place I removed the string between them so that I could sand down the planks some more to get a smoother finish. I will replace the string once I am ready to laquer the decks which will be done when the hull planking is complete.
Here's a picture of the deck planking completed.

Here's where the Winnie is at in all her dirty glory. I'm happy to say that the starboard side went as it should.
I've planked the first 5 strakes above the wales from the bow to bulkhead #15.

She's in need of a sanding and a good cleaning. Thanks for stopping by and all the likes!

I used the Zinsser sanding sealer to prep the hull and get it nice and smooth. That took several coats, but with this scale of hull I wanted it perfectly smooth. Then several coats of Humbrol enamel paint were applied by brush. Finally the copper plates were applied to the hull. I picked up the copper tape from a shop that specializes in stained glass supplies. The roll of 3/8" tape is 36 yards and cost me about 20 bucks Cdn. That process was a bit of trial and error, plus more errors and some more trialling. But finally I had them all on to my satisfaction, Good from far, but far from perfect. Anyway, here are some pics of the process...

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. Now that there is some colour on the model, it really starts coming together. I just realized that there needs to be some white trim added to the hull and some decoration. I will start prepping that while I finish the decks. So much to think about and plan. Kinda fun really.

My third attempt at building the foc'sle is a keeper I think. The first attempt used the false deck cut out by the original builder. The second atempt although good, was messed up a little when I varathaned the deck too early. Now the third one is built and dry fitted and I will add the detailing once the fittings have been added. Here are some pics...

I used a garbage can and magnets when applying the planks to the false deck so that a camber could be introduced to the foc'sle.

Well, things have been progressing in the ole shipyard. I worked on a bunch of the fittings for the foc'sle deck including the bowsprit so that I can eventually finish the decks and put the foc'sle in place.
Once those little jobs were done I could start work on finishing the hull.
