Thanks Pat, happy Xmas to you and yours as well. The deck can be quite detailed but as there will be a bloody great chopper plonked on it it won’t be so visible .
-
Piece of cardboard! I’m thinking of masking the centre line as there is a Chanel that runs down the centre. there will also be a big bloody helicopter parked there! I ordered this set off the internet’s as it has the ships names as well which can go on the stern. There are safely signs all over the ship as well which I might just use cut up decals .
-
So, masked up oilcanning done, mask comes off as do decals (lucky I ordered another set) so no biggie to fix and overspray. Still annoying but so be it.
-
Bit more fading and grunge on the deck, I think that’ll be enough until I start working on the focsle with some rust later.
-
So when you look at the bow there is markings around the main gun on the deck, not provided by the kit I used some from spare decals. I intend on dulling these all down and working the deck a lot more.

I think in these days a big red dragon won’t scare people off but with radar and satellite it won’t give away the game either. The alge on the waterline is what I find interesting, (maybe she was in the Med)
-
I would love to do this but the cost is outrageous. When the kit gets released next year we can revisit this.

No, I’m aware of CV-1, this is the next iteration of her as AV-3, her final configuration before lost in 1942. Published this month by Trumpy on their website.

There is a IJN equivalent which is rarer than hens teeth and twice as expensive when it pops its’ head up. There is a Trumpy PE set which goes with it too. I’m wanting to do an Ark Royal as my next really big build but I’m thinking by Mid 2021 this should be out and about

Well, came back early to avoid a COVID outbreak in Sydney so I’m not locked in for 2 weeks. I drew up and then etched in some weld lines, then plating panels similar to the real thing. This way I can first paint a black boot strap then paint the lower him and subsequently Paul am an the upper hull

U-Star tweezers are my go to. Hands down the best tool I use, I very rarely use the pencils and I find a normal lead (graphite) pencil licked by tongue is just as good as your got a sharper point this easier to see and that brings on my final necessity these days, and optivisor!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
