Thanks for the views, likes and comments all- it does help. Billings just used an eyebolt to hold the jeers in place, so fashioned some cleats from some walnut left over from another kit (never throw anything away) and pinned them using bamboo dowel fashioned from a cocktail stick. also added cleats to the bases of the fore and main masts for the trusses- these are old billing ones from the spares box. Started painting the yellow on the mizzen and gave the fore and main the first of two black priming coats a well as tapering the mizzen gaff and boom.

Have fun all and keep up the good work everyone.

I like watered down white glue for gluing rope, cloth etc. and I use it extensively on my model railroad scenery but, for rigging I like to have that instant hold CA provides a lot of times. Using the tip of a pin I can usually apply just a tiny amount that does not make the rope as shiny. I say sometimes as we all know how quickly CA glue can get out of control, especially thin CA and get where you didn't want it to go.

I've been using very small amounts of CA also. It can come out shiny but not always. I like the CA for the quickness in drying but, I'm always open to better suggestions. I am probably going to start buying small amounts of various glues to start testing them to see which ones I prefer and for what material/uses.

Rope cool process is fairly simple. I took a scrap piece of wood and drilled a couple rows of holes on two sides. Snipped a few toothpicks in have and inserted them into the holes and then I simply wrap the ropes around the toothpicks and glue them in place. Once glued I pull the toothpick out of the holes and free the rope coil. The coil is then placed over the line that is tied off to a bollard and done. Fairly fast and easy.

Adding the partial gun deck has turned out to be a lot more work than what I anticipated going in, but I'm glad I've done the extra work. It's been an excellent chance to practice some techniques that will be valuable later. When the time comes to work on the spar deck, I'm going to have to make a few modifications to allow at least some visibility down to the lower deck.

The gun deck is in, and the gun deck cannon ports are framed. I've planked and painted the bulkheads and the first coat of varnish is on the deck itself. I've received the cannons I ordered and will be installing them over the next few days. Here's a couple of shots of the current state of affairs.

Thank you to everyone for all the nice compliments and the likes! This has truly been a great build for me in it being both my largest and most complicated to date, (soon to be passed by Soleil Royal) and most importantly, the first to have been started and completed on this site. Like most of us I have been building models for a very long time but to be apart of such a great community to learn, grow and share with, has made it all the better. All of the encouragement, tips and just knowing that there are people who are interested in what is being built enriches the model to a point where it is not just a model, it has become a journey that plays out in these logs like a story for everyone to read and enjoy.

I am currently working on the rope coils and hope to have them done either tonight or tomorrow. Once they are all in place, I am hoping to take her outside where I can use the natural light to take some finished photos. Those pictures will be the last of the build updates on here.
Koen, please do use what you can to help your build! Let me know if you need any pictures or information and if I can, I will gladly help you out. Also, let me know when you get a log started as I would love to see another Couronne come together.

Don, thanks for the tip to clear the cache. Worked like a charm and I'm posting away again from my home computer.

Tonight I got the stern lanterns and flag staff installed. With that, the ship is complete! I'm still going to install rope coils this weekend and touch up a couple things but it looks like by the end of the weekend this build may be 100% complete!

    Hello Everyone,

Thanks again for your kind comments and likes.  Sjors, yes I do lots of different things, stick around and you'll get to find out, I'm a Jack of all trades but I'm afraid I'm not a master of any.

Todays update is the head gratings.  Again I looked for an easy way. I decided to cut it out from ply and paint it. I transferred the plan onto a piece of 2mm ply and cut it out. There wasn't enough grating material so I had to buy some, I made them up and cut to shape. I sealed and painted the frame before fitting the gratings. I know it was a sort of cheats way of doing it but I think it looks good and is probably better than I could have managed by building it up the traditional way, it was certainly much quicker.

Next job is the head rails.

Hi Dilbert,  The stuff below is what I use. It's what I first bought so I can't compare it with anything else. I dilute about 2-3 part water and keep in a jar, it seems to stay usable for quite a while.  It doesn't work on everything though, good on Amati and Caldercraft nails but not on some others, is ok on most photo etch, worked well on my white meta castings, ( see my rudder hinges )  but is a bit hit and miss on cannon barrels.

Hello Everyone,     Another small update.  Today I nailed the wales to simulate bolts. I used Amati 7mm dome head nails which I first blackened. I think that it adds a bit more character to the hull sides, not that it needs it.

I followed Mark's example and got the bronze mast bases that he used, as Mark said he couldn't make them any better. They were from the Amati fittings range and all three together only cost just under £1 from Cornwall Model Boats.

Hello all back with another update
I had to order up more thread for the ratlines and deadeyes so whilst I was waiting I set to work on rigging every block possible ,I have chosen not to use the sails ,I had given the sails to my mother to stitch up for me but after she showed me the first couple I decided it was pointless to continue as the material itself was so unrealistic looking

also whist waiting on the thread I was able to continue with placing the main mast here she is mainmast forestay first

    shrouds

    backstays

    then forestays

then after receiving more thread in the post  it was time to attack those foremast ratlines ,as many of you will have predicted the sliding the original ones about was never gonna work so plan b happened

then it was out with the old and in with the new

im much happier with the new ratlines set at 8mm my little tourist buddy says he could climb them with his hands behind his back

so that brings us up to date and all caught up again after the small redo ,tomo I plan on fitting the mainmast upper shrouds and possibly a start on the mainmast  ratlines
    thanks for viewing

I like the rat lines.  It's a good reminder to keep an eye on spacing / scale.  Rework is all part of the game.  You're doing an amazing job.
