Steve 12345 got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in HMS Bounty by Steve 12345 - FINISHED - Billing Boats - 1:50
Hello all and welcome back to my penultimate post on HMS Bounty
another milestone reached is completion of the running rigging  I thank you guys for the suggestions on the stay line distortion issue I had
I stiffened the line with the white glue and water mix and played about and redone the lines several times Im know going to conclude I believe some distortion is normal maybe not so much on the real ship but it is just rope and any pulling on it at all will of course distort it so I think I can live with that .
We still ofcourse haven't reached completion there still remains my achilles heal on this ship, the ships boat and rope coils

with completion of the running rigging I am now going to let myself begin the rc aeroplane build
but your can be dam sure ill be back with a ships boat and rope coils to claim my sought after FINISHED badge in the title
so with some sadness the shipyard is deconstructed and now converted to a hangar

until then thanks guys for viewing liking and commenting

I had installed the upper planking and the false frame timbers and was not happy with the results.

So, what does one typically do when one is not happy with the outcome

I removed it all and decided I will start over again.

The practicum suggests adding the upper planking to the bulkheads, then installing the false frame timbers while at the same time cutting out the bulkheads as their alignment won't match.  I tried cutting out one of the bulkheads and it was a tedious task. This time I'm thinking of cutting off the bulkheads prior to installing any upper planking.  I will then install all the false frame timbers using the plans to determine placement.  Once done, I will mark the location of them on a plank so I can cut in the scuppers.  Then I will install the upper planking trying to get the joints as tight as possible.  It sounds a little energetic but in my head I think it can be done.

WOW what a beautiful build Steve. It is truly inspiring. I am in the middle of building the Oseberg ship and have already purchased the Bounty launch to get my feet wet in POF building. And just started the book buy Caroline Alexander  on the Bounty. My thoughts are now moving to this kit! Great job Sir.

hello all thanks again for viewing and commenting I need to ask some advice please before proceding .
this evening I managed to fit two of the yard arms but I am not happy with how they distort the stay sail lines is this normal or do I need to consider rigging a different way from the billings illustration please see photos and advice would be much appreciated

hello all with completion of all the rat lines on the main it was soon onto the mizzen

the mizzen was fitted in the exact same manner as the previous mast main stay first

    then shrouds

    backstays

    then remaining stay

with that milestone reached its onto running rigging and the bow sprit has been rigged

with the remaining yards 8 of them in total pre rigged I see only a few more evenings work to go here ,I did have a snag list ive been working on and only one item remains the ships boat .
there will of course also be the final paint touchup and ropecoils

    thanks for viewing

Thanks EJ and Popeye it's always encouraging to have your support and thanks others for the likes Hi reklein thanks for checking in and the reassurance on kit choice as a first build I've found a local club that have an old abandoned army airfield and offer lessons along with checking the model over and taking her on a maiden flight . The toolboxs I built the top one a couple years ago and the bottom box just at the start of this build ,the top box I made a YouTube vid on my channel you can check that out here

Good to hear from you Steve and I hope all is well with you.  You'll be pleased to know that your Bounty build is still my go to reference point for my build.  All the best with the RC Plane and yes I would love to see some photos as well.

Hi Guys, back from my annual trip to good old England and I had a great time with the family and Grandchildren but now I'm ready to get back in the shipyard.  Had a 20kg case in the hold of the plane full of modeling goodies and not a single item of clothing!  Check out my newest purchase -

Really looking forward to trying this out.  I've bought a very cheap solid hull Bluenose kit so I can practice on that before I use it for painting the Bounty.
I hope all my followers have had a great summer and I hope to be posting some 'proper' work soon.

Best of luck with your victory it is an ambitious build but is certainly achievable,my own first build was also a victory I am now on my third build and my only regret now is I've learnt so much I wish I would have held off on the big kit and be building it now using the techniques I've now learned,I'm still happy with my victory and very proud of it as a first build these kits can be pretty expensive and I think that helped being a first build I was very dertermined to finish and not waste all that money ,your in for a long haul with this one and it will be interesting to follow along

    Display Case

I decided to buy a case instead of making one, mainly because what I was planing to make was going to be around the same price.  This case is really nice, definitely worth the price of $250 CAD.  It is from a company called AcrylicJob, they do custom cases of almost any size with plexiglass of several thicknesses. This one is 23L x 10W x 20H.

I decided to display her in the bedroom since there was nothing on top of the dresser and my Union Jack needed some support. I'm not a very good Canadian it seems.

Hi again all, thank for the views and likes everyone, painted the deadeyes with the help of magic hands and a length of brass wire. Also couldn't get away with the replacement bamboo cross trees so delved back into my pile of walnut offcuts. then time to get messy and break out the india ink to start dying the thread for the shrouds- great fun with oodles of mess- like being back in art class at school!!.

Take care and happy modelling all.

    Thanks Popeye.

I've thought about framing the upper gun ports but Im not sure,  I did manage to file the square so that much is good.

As far as the stays go I figured Id do what I'm used to.  Standing first then running.  I'm not at all worked about tight spaces.   I'm also doing it to adjust the masts.  They were glued together funny which makes them lean in all the wrong directions.  The rigging can go a long way to pull them straight again though.  So I do a couple back stays and then a fore stay and eventually get it all straightened out.

Starboard ports are done.  And the rigging is moving along.   The bowsprit and fore mast standing rigging is almost done.

    Thanks Jim.

Some updates.  Bow sprit is about done and standing rigging on the fore is well on it's way.
