    Thanks Chap,
I think I'll probably "Re-Work" Sanson, although I am sorely tempted by the Mamoli "Flying Cloud" that I have in the closet.
Good luck with the Aircraft!! (Are you going to Post it on "Shore Leave?"

Hello all and welcome back to my penultimate post on HMS Bounty
another milestone reached is completion of the running rigging  I thank you guys for the suggestions on the stay line distortion issue I had
I stiffened the line with the white glue and water mix and played about and redone the lines several times Im know going to conclude I believe some distortion is normal maybe not so much on the real ship but it is just rope and any pulling on it at all will of course distort it so I think I can live with that .
We still ofcourse haven't reached completion there still remains my achilles heal on this ship, the ships boat and rope coils

with completion of the running rigging I am now going to let myself begin the rc aeroplane build
but your can be dam sure ill be back with a ships boat and rope coils to claim my sought after FINISHED badge in the title
so with some sadness the shipyard is deconstructed and now converted to a hangar

until then thanks guys for viewing liking and commenting

Thanks again for the visits to my log and the kind comments. Not had much time in ye olde ship yard due to visitors. The main and fore masts need one more coat of yellow and that will be the lower masts painted up. Obtained the caldercraft victory boats set, but being at 1/72 scale they are a bit of a squeeze on the skids so not sure if i will use them all. The tretletrees in the pic with the boats are made from bamboo obtained from them beefburger skewers which will replace the kit ply ones which are a bit fragile- not sure if bamboo is right wood to use?

as always take care and have fun all.

Hi Steve, many thanks for your posts and as I've said before, I've picked up a number of very useful ideas and suggestions when looking at your superb work....will make my Norfolk build much easier and hopefully look as professional as yours. I look forward to seeing your "finished" Bounty and all the best on your r c build.

    Sjors,

As long as I don't start another build I might be done in a month or 2 but, the odds of me not starting another project of some sort are very small... In fact I need to get to work on a book case for the Admiral and the display case for La Couronne in addition to finishing repairing a bench that sits on our porch. It has just been way to hot out side lately (over 100 F) so I have not been in the mood to work in the wood shop lately.

Oh, and there is the cross section scratch build that I am in the planning stages of for La Couronne also. Hmm.... guess I better get off of here and get working on something!

Hello all thanks again for the views and comments
no apology needed popeye I thank you for your intervention and I am glad other billings bounty builders can see the reccomemded ten mm vrs the eight mm and decide for themselves how they would like to proceed  credit to don also for suggesting eight mm

my goal for this evening was to fit the mainmast upper shrouds and make a start on the mainmast ratlines I smashed that and had a really progressive evening I hope to complete all the main mast ratlines by tomo evening then its onto the mizzen

oh and hi Derek good to see you back buddy hope all is going well on the bluenose

in doing cloth sails,  I usually paint them with diluted white glue.  then I'll lay them on a crumpled up beach towel {you could use any large sheet of cloth for this} covered with plastic wrap.  it will take on the shape of wherever they lay.  when I tried the experiment of embossing sails,  I used the decal bonder.........works much in the same way,  but I only sprayed that one side.  for that though,  I made sure the material was stiffer than most....I have like three different grades in my inventory

I'm on the fence with them,  since I've done cloth.   on my second Cutty Sark,  I had to paint them because I got replacements and they were beige......they were off white in the kit.  I couldn't get the complete set,  so it was the only option.  they did come out quite well actually.....got rid of that sheen and everything.   painted a flat gray with a wash coat,  and they look pretty good.   the one thing they lack though is the life like detail that only cloth sails can provide........the stitching,  the seams......you can add the corner reinforcements and even eyelets.  I haven't sen too much done with plastic sails......but it's like anything else in modeling.......how far do you want to go with it?

I've seen cloth on plastic.......done right,  it looks really good.  thanks Glenn and EJ for the kind word....this is a really neat subject to touch on.   funny too......I was looking through my old pictures,  and I happened on the first U.S.S. United States,  the C.S.S. Alabama,  and the first Cutty Sark....all three are from the 1:96 series.  I did a Connie too,  but I have no pictures of her.  all of these models sported their plastic sails.......it was all I used to do,  before I came here

have you ever gone into a craft store,  and seen those prebuilt ships  {nautical decorations}......Hobby Lobby sells them.   I look at the sails,  and some have been sprayed with so much lacquer,  they look like plastic....and they are cloth sails.   they look terrible!   the admiral tells me...."you could do better than that!"   of course,  I tout the rigging as well.....but I still imagine what I could do to change it.

thanks as well to all who hit the like button

I am still trying to decide if I like plastic sails. I have made a couple of plastic ship models in my time, the Airfix Victory and the Heller Nina, so am not averse to using them myself, I think it is they look too clean. Though they actually look as if they are full of wind, something very difficult to achieve with cotton. Can't decide.

However, the model is looking really good now she is getting dressed.

    Very nice!

I've rigged plastic sails on three models now. Both Conny builds and my Cutty Sark. I liked them on my Connys but not as much on the Sark. The Sark was such a small scale model that they look too crowded and the lack of details in the rigging had nothing to distract the view of the cheap plastic sails. The Conny builds however allowed for a complete rig and having them appear to be full of wind added a nice element to the build. As for the plastic look, well, they are plastic ships so it is what it is.

To get the wind filled look with cloth, I would think that you would have to hide wire frame in the edges of the sails and possibly use a starch or similar stiffener to help hold a wind filled shape. I have not yet tried it myself on cloth. Maybe one day...

    Thanks Sjors!

Yeah that planking was and still is kind of a disaster but at least I learned a lot from it. The Satin Varnish helps distort the errors.

The rigging looks the way it does because I have ripped up most of it at least once. The ratlines must have been a month or so of fussing. The rigging line supplied with the kit isn't the greatest either.

The ratlines are done and the booms and yards are about to be attached.  She is coming along slowly but its almost done. The table is something I found in the trash, its going to be my second work station for the summer months.

the clew/sheet lines were rigged.......it wasn't till I rigged the lower and top sail braces,  that I realized I forgot to photog the steps.   so I took 'em...focusing on the groups.  first the clew/sheet lines.

then the braces......I like how the blocks show up in the rigging

I'm done just in time to take Gibbs out...........time to appease the carpet monster

hello all with completion of all the rat lines on the main it was soon onto the mizzen

the mizzen was fitted in the exact same manner as the previous mast main stay first

    then shrouds

    backstays

    then remaining stay

with that milestone reached its onto running rigging and the bow sprit has been rigged

with the remaining yards 8 of them in total pre rigged I see only a few more evenings work to go here ,I did have a snag list ive been working on and only one item remains the ships boat .
there will of course also be the final paint touchup and ropecoils

that kind of distortion is normal.......the trick is not to have so much.   remember.....running rigging is not as taught as the standing rigging.....especially if sails are not to be added.  try to loosen up on the line just a tiny bit......allow some pull.  push on the block to set the thread for the least deflection,  and put a tiny dab of white glue where the line goes through the block.  it will help in countering the pull when you terminate the line.   it will give a sort of 'push me, pull you'  effect.   I've done this in extreme cases.

Interesting suggestion do you think I could try pulling the kink out of the line with a temp line and painting the stay line and yard rigging with the glue and water then remove temp line ?
