What a great idea for the oars - they say the simple ideas are usually the best.

Finally, a few updates!  Been super busy with work with little time for Victory.

I tried glueing the second deck piece on then I started to plank. I hated how it was looking:
Not only that, but the base deck piece was warped and I couldnt seem to straighten it out. Yuck....

So, I made the executive  decided to start all the way over again. I ripped up ALL of it, including the warpped base deck piece and removed as much glue as I could. This was super demoralizing for me because that was about a weeks worth of work for me. But I just couldn't live with myself if it looked that bad so it was better to try again.

I then measured the height of the base deck piece and the thin deck planks. 2.5mm total.  Then, I rummaged around in another kit I got but not built and I actually found 50 strips of very nice 5mm x 2.5mm basswood!  It was the correct width and height.

So, I started to use the strips really slowly.

So i came across where the mast sticks out. Since i didnt have thr pre cut sheet anymore, I utilized the plans and some angle maths to determine the angle and where to place it. So I drilled the mast hole and planked the hole very carefully.

The mast is straight as I took care with its measurements.

I'm still at it, planking slowly but surely.  It will need a small bit of sanding too. But I personnaly like this look better than the thin strips, so I'm having a good time putting this deck together.  Thanks Dan for the advice about the black pen. Its working out really well!

Hello all and welcome back to my penultimate post on HMS Bounty
another milestone reached is completion of the running rigging  I thank you guys for the suggestions on the stay line distortion issue I had
I stiffened the line with the white glue and water mix and played about and redone the lines several times Im know going to conclude I believe some distortion is normal maybe not so much on the real ship but it is just rope and any pulling on it at all will of course distort it so I think I can live with that .
We still ofcourse haven't reached completion there still remains my achilles heal on this ship, the ships boat and rope coils

with completion of the running rigging I am now going to let myself begin the rc aeroplane build
but your can be dam sure ill be back with a ships boat and rope coils to claim my sought after FINISHED badge in the title
so with some sadness the shipyard is deconstructed and now converted to a hangar

until then thanks guys for viewing liking and commenting

As I'm going to be silent for a few weeks I thought I'd better get some work done!  So here is my latest series of Photos for the log.

I had some difficulty with the pins but they are all on.  I have painted the lower portion white I forgot to take a photo.

I put some dowls in the mast hole and laid out all the deck gear (dry) so when I come back in September that will be my job then.

The kit called for the brass etched background to be Black but John MacKays book shows red, so red it is.

Just started this work and it needs tidying up and I will add a second frame upright to the four frames as per Mr MacKay.

Thank you Mark for your kind words.  Sometimes I wonder whether she is too ambitious for a first build but I am making a lot of mistakes and one thing I have learnt in life if that you learn more from them than anything so I'm soldiering on and loving it.  However, I might take a different view when I get to the rigging.
Welcome on board and thank you for your time.

Too right.  Hired a house with an indoor swimming pool for the whole family so in the words of my son I intend to 'smash it', but not the house obviously.  Congrats on the big 60.

Thank you for your comments Fernando.  I'm pretty happy with how she's coming along but as for the paint I see far more errors every time I take a photo!!

I'm off back to England next week for the summer and my son has bought me an airbrush kit and compressor for my 60th birthday so I'm already looking forward to playing with that.  The only problem will be convincing the customs people that I don't have a bomb in my suitcase!!

Hi All, I've been busy with what seems small but time consuming stuff.  The heat here at the moment hasn't helped as we've been up around 44C (111F) for a few days now.  Hopefully this is coming down this week but it doesn't make me want to sit over a work bench!!
I made the tiller house a little while ago as per the kit instructions I didn't feel that it was good enough so I clad it with Mahogany and stained it Dark Oak and I think that it looks better.

These first two are as per the kit

    Now after Cladding

Now after staining.  I'll give it a coat of Sanding Sealer before I glue it in place.

I've also made a start on the Rudder.
I need to tidy it up and fit the 'bolt' Heads and stain/paint as my next job.  I'm hoping to have it done and fitted before I go to England in a week or so.

hello all with completion of all the rat lines on the main it was soon onto the mizzen

the mizzen was fitted in the exact same manner as the previous mast main stay first

    then shrouds

    backstays

    then remaining stay

with that milestone reached its onto running rigging and the bow sprit has been rigged

with the remaining yards 8 of them in total pre rigged I see only a few more evenings work to go here ,I did have a snag list ive been working on and only one item remains the ships boat .
there will of course also be the final paint touchup and ropecoils

    thanks for viewing

    Mizzen - Burton Tackle:

Not that I am owning up to shying away from the Top Mast shroud works.
The crew in the shipyard pointed out I could also add the Burton Tackles(port and starboard) onto the Mizzen Mast(done this morn'in).

Close up Pics of the top and bottom below.

Probably no excuse to start the Top Mast #ropeblockwork now.

    Hi Pat,
    Re: Deadeys.
Pity they are not the same, as easy to spot the difference.
The deadeyes on the channel, are ones which come with the kit(which upon close examination, I should of drilled out the holes a bit).
The other(on end of shroud) are from other supplier, slightly different.

Learning a hell of a lot from this built.

The rigging of the foremast yards is complete ... as far as I can tell. Here are some photos of the braces and associated bits and pieces. I have tried to show as much detail as possible, as the plans are a little vague in some respects.

(Incidentally, the way the website is shown appears to depend on the browser that is used. I found it was not possible to load photos using Firefox (though the photo showed up as having loaded). I ended up using the Microsoft browser which among other things, doesn't show the progress of the loading process - Firefox does.)

First are topgallant braces: the lines are tied to the stays with clove hitches.

Next are the foreyard and foretopsail yard braces. Things are rather crowded, and it was difficult to get a shot which showed the arrangement of the lines and blocks well.  These are the best I could do.   Though awkward, the whole rigging process for the braces was a little easier than I expected.

and this is how they all look.

If nothing else, the photo below gives an idea of how complicated is the whole business.
