  1. Hi Joseph, she's shaping up nicely. I like the airbrushing. I have one, but have been afraid to use it because of overspraying and tape leakage.
  2. Here's a couple of pictures of the real Hurricane House and skylight as of 9-11- 2013. I'm just now realizing the date I was there 9-11.
  3. Thanks Sjors....hope you are enjoying Mobbsie's visit .... you guys stay out of trouble now......we don't want to see you in the news...
  4. Hi Daniel, welcome back....haven't heard from you in a while. Yes, it is moving along rather smoothly right now. I'm glad to be back in the shipyard. I can see where this ship could go unfinished, there is a lot to it. Not as much as some of the older men of war or the likes of the Wasa or Victory by any means, but enough that could discourage someone.....I find it quite a challenge, and since this is my first attempt at wood....most enjoyable. I would welcome someone else building this besides me.
  5. Hi Piet, glad you like. I think it might be time to come back to Florida....getting cold here.....can'r remember why we came back so soon....maybe the Keys are in our future soon....I actually pulled that blue color from some other models I saw of the whalers when in Mystic. Kinda ugly....but does stand out....
  6. Hi Popeye, yes, it is real decieving. I think one thing that made it look real "off" is that both structures are off center and the galley side is larger than the head and storage section. It seems high in the back and low in the front and all off kilter in the middle. Once the beams are added between the two it starts to even out, and then I added some curvature on the beams to compensate the arch. It all evened out and the roof fit the curve almost perfectly. It also seemed to add the right pitch to conform with the lines of the ship. I don't know.....go figure???? It worked. Yes, things are moving along. I'm trying to tke advantage of a little winter weather here and get some ship work done. Tomorrow it's supposed to get down to 35 degrees. That's cold and very early for us here in Texas! Brrrrrrr!
  7. I'm posting lot's of pictures for anyone that has an interest in building this ship. There are vague instructions and tricky plans to read if you aren't used to pulling several drawings together to figure out one part...and no photo's except what's been taken of the real ship...
  8. Ok, well, now the roof is glued and painted, and after looking at these pictures I see that I still have some touch up painting to do as well as removing some wood fuzzies on the corners and such. The camera sees way more than I do. That conspiracy thing again Augie. I added the skyway hatches, galley stack, and the rear davits. Tomorrow is a ladder and rail, some clean up, and then perhaps start in on the skylight. It's a real task all by itself, and I have to be real careful, as it is tedious as well.
  9. Hi Dave, those kinda seemed like a neat thing to do. I was looking through some old photos, and believe it or not there actually was a rack right in the same spot for some ropes and things. I couldn't find a life ring, but maybe?? Real coincidence, I guess someone on the ship thought that was a good place also...
  10. It seemed like a good place for a life preserver and some lines....next up is the roof. More to follow....
  11. I'm not sure if this is a "real" fixture (as it is not on any plans or photo's) on the ship, but I thought it would add some realism and a point of interest.
  12. Yeah Geoff, I did the same thing. I recently finished my Revell Conny, and moved on to the Morgan. I was in Boston in September, and Mystic in October and visited both ships. A member of this forum is a member of the 1812 Marine's and has direct access to the Constitution. We had an after hours (after the ship closes to the public) private tour of the ship. We went to areas the general public does not have access to, and it was quite amazing to have a National Monument completely to ourselves with no one aboard but the watch for as long as we liked. An opportunity of a lifetime. I took quite a few pictures, of both the Consittution and the Morgan so let me know if you need any. There are several outstanding build logs going on at this time in the forum which are great for reference and just enjoying nice ships....enjoy
  13. Hi Geoff, welcome aboard. It's a great kit and a lot of fun to build. I think you'd enjoy it. Also, it's a real ship and you can visit it which to me makes it even more special....
  14. Hi Mobbsie, thanks. Have a good time with Sjors and Anja, perhaps someday we might make it across the pond and meet you guys.....have a little good Belgian Ale while you're there.....lol.....and Anja's potatoes sound wonderful.....yummmm
  15. Hi Lawrence, I agree, so much sometimes gets covered up on these things. Some of it will be visible from each end but still covered....
