Hey Tony, thanks for dropping in. They actually carried a few more kegs, 2 more harpoons and lances, 5 paddles, shovels, hooks, grapples and just a lot of stuff for one of these small boats. Once the Mast and sail goes up, and the oars are out the deck gets a lot of room real fast....imagine though putting 6 people in there with all the rest of this stuff.
Hi Grant, yes, lots of details. Hmmm, seems a bit odd that you and Tony got back to back comments and also responded back in the same post....did you sneak back to UK Mate??????

Boats are looking terrific with the addition of that amount of detail John. Great work mate!

Hi John,
You've made a great job on the boats and equipment mate, I didn't realise the amount of gear they carried, it certainly puts a new perspective on things. It's not something you'd want to go cruising in, I do however have one question mate, where the hell do the crew sit ?
Keep it up buddy, it's all coming together very nicely.
Be Good

Outstanding John! The main aim is to show how these whalers had to work and with what equipment. This does the trick, a show and tell thing.
Cheers,

Well, I finished the first whaleboat today. Four to go. Stained, glued, varnished painted and attached all the components for the first boat. Then set it on the ship until I finish the Running Rigging. Details on the website.

Hi George, yes very busy and full...I'm sure glad I stopped when I did, anything else and it would have been all covered up. Bad enough as it is. 4 to go!

Looking nice John. Now show us some metal work, eh. Yeah, a bunch of folks in the boat would really be the icing on the cake, go for it.
Cheers,

Today, I managed to make the Harpoons and Lances. Typical boat had 5 harpoons and 3 lances, but I'm only doing 3 harpoons and 1 lance per boat. It's getting crowded and I don't want to overload them. Details are on my website for construction again. Got to do some metalwork today...fun.

Lester asked me to post this picture of his grandson showing the proper way to thrust a harpoon as compared to the movie trailer showing someone hurling it like a javelin l

Hi George, I've been thinking about that same idea for a while now. I'm going to put all of these on the ship, but I'm considering making another one to display all opened out. This would especially be good if I could find 5-6 scale sailors to go in the boat. At 3/16" scale these are hard to find....this is open for suggestion guys?????
