I am so sorry to hear about the fall. I am happy to hear that you are going to keep going. I lost the Heller La Reale de la France a couple of years ago. It fell in storage smashing the stern decorations and breaking the masts (which were plastic anyways). I ended up declaring it a total loss. It ended up in a dumpster. Bad day.

I started cutting the top pieces of my gunport lids. So far I’m 210 pieces in. I need a total of 288. I’m building them IAW Wolfram Zu Monfeld’s Historic Ship Models. I’m making them out of 1/32” basswood.

I decided to make my own gunport lids because I didn’t particularly care for the metal ones that came in the kit. They don’t look right and in order to make them historically accurate I will have to install two eyebolts. This means drilling two half millimeter holes which doesn’t work well with metal fittings. I am using basswood and I made a jig out of scrap wood.

You could always load the sections up with whatever cargo you wanted to have and leave a side panel or two off, plus 1/72 is a standard scale for miniature figures, so finding a crew wouldn’t be too terribly difficult.

Last 2 dummy guns.

All but 2 of the dummy guns are now mounted. I am waiting on all glue to dry before I touch up the paint and drill the holes for the last two dummy guns, up by the quarter galleries.

That’s a good collection that you’ve got there. The only addition that I would recommend is a handle for the razor saw. It’ll make a huge difference when you have to make a large number of cuts.

A schooner is a good starter model. The rig is relatively simple and everything is relatively easy to get to. Model Expo makes really nice kits. They are excellent to learn on.

I haven’t forgotten about the Triton, I’m still working on the Victory. I just started mounting dummy guns.

Got the dummy cannons painted and started installing them on the Victory.

I touched up the black and painted the rails and the gunport frames black on the port side. So far so good.
