I thought that maybe she was Coppered but she was built for speed and coppering would of
slowed her down. However anti fowling may have been a bigger priority

What’s a good color or what is the true color for the bottom paint (below waterline) on the America.

When I built the Morgan I was unhappy with the look of plank shear, looked uneven at spots. So I sanded it down and added strip of wood. This has been an approach I saw in a build log. You may want to consider adding a strip of wood to make the same effect.

Great craftsmanship. I’m about to pull the trigger and order the kit so I’ll be a few months behind you and will be referencing your build log quite extensively.
Keep up the good work and please keep posting.
Much appreciated

When did internally strapped blocks come into use in the US?

I’ve had success with using Birchwood Casey ( gun blueing ) for blackening metal and brass. It takes a little finesse so get some practice pieces. There is some good instruction in the painting portion of this forum.

What is the best method for brass and other metals, paint black or use a blackening agent. I’ve had mixed results with either method.

This is on my list for next build. I appreciate the build log and look forward to view your progress and insight on the build.

Any insight on the best product and method to blacken brass in lieu of painting?

I have the Byrnes saw, sander and thickneser and want to hook up a dust collection system. Looking for ideas for a simple system. The connection points seam to be an odd size (1-1/2”?).

Thanks Jim , I’ll check out the book. Sounds like a good ref book regardless.
The Cheerful interests me, maybe not as complex as the Winchelsea?

Over the years I’ve modeled several ships from kits. Honoring my skills along the way and still learning. I’m wanting to step into scratch building and am looking for a recommendation on the first project. One of the projects on the NRG site? Something from Syren? Other options?
