I would imagine that if you were to look at other ships of her class, it may give you a better idea. the ropes going down into the grate may be correct. I wish I knew more of these types of vessels. your really doing her justice though....very nice

Hi Popeye,
thanks for your comment, the "Club rack" is a good one......, but did you know that in the 60 ties the commander (also a riding enthusiast) of the Gorch Fock, I think it was in New York harbour, was riding a horse on the deck...

Thanks very much for all those likes.
@Nils
I’m looking forward to the rigging of your Pegasus. You see, setting it up and working on the details, can be as much fun as you have with the making of the interior details of your outstanding build.
@Martin
Thank you. Perhaps you should stop the grog for your crew if setting up of some rigging is planed?
@B.E.
Thank you very much.
Yes, I had a long talk with my bosun about those lift/sheets. Well, he is actually quite old. When he started his naval career some 40 years ago, in the 1730ies, topsail lifts were set up separately (as they will again in about 14 years from now – but we don’t know this yet). To honor his long service I decided to allow us that little anachronism. Of course, this means 2 more lines to pull during maneuvers but fortunately I have a full crew of right seamen – and besides that I like the look of it.
Cheers

Mirabell61 reacted to Blue Ensign in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:64 - 16-gun sloop
Hi Nils, I've just recalled that Daniel (Dafi) did some extensive work on working the anchor cables, here's a link to his posts which show the arrangement of the cables around the riding bitts, and running down thro' the hatches.
http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/76-hms-victory-by-dafi-to-victory-and-beyond/page-10
Writing in his book Arming and fitting Brian Lavery comments that sixth rates had no separate orlop deck amidships so they carried their cables on top of the barrels in the hold, which must have been inconvenient at times. Smaller vessels stowed them where they could, sometimes directly on the bottom of the hold.
Neither of these options seem very good for either the condition of the barrels or the drying out of the cables.
When underway I understand that the anchor cables were unrove and the hawse holes blocked up, and when stored the cables were loosely coiled.
The stored cables took up a lot of room within a ship; Lavery writes that they took up around 2/5th of the length of a ship, and in the ffm Vol 1V a standard cable length of 720' is given. At 1.64 scale this would equate to a massive 342cm of coiled cable running each side of the centre line of the ship.
Remember that the anchor cables were not directly attached to the capstans when hauling them in and out, they were attached to smaller messenger cables.
A good reference source is The Arming and Fitting of English Ships of War 1600 - 1815 by Brian Lavery.
Hope this helps.

Mirabell61 reacted to Beef Wellington in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:64 - 16-gun sloop
Nils, hope this helps. The anchor rope would be secured around the riding bitts as in picture below (just behind the forward platform, although they are not technically riding bitts on the Snake the principle is the same). The cable then passes through soem holes in one the grating over one of the hatches. The rope would then feed down onto a lower deck called the 'cable tier' where the rope would have been coiled. It was probably a very smelly place given the wet mud that would be covering the rope.

Build log part 29
Now starting with fitting out forecastle beneath and on top of that deck
Fitting the first two Posts that also take up the bowsprit counterplate
the gundeck is cut away, wide under the forecastle deck as well..., to allow view from above to lower decks
tried to gain standhight for the Crew here as well (as good as possible)
Access to the forecastle deck shall be over the hatch-opening on starboard deck side (per Stair, the deckbeam shall be cut away at that Position. The stair shall fit nicely in between the first two gun tackles
the two masterboards fitted in place
view underneath...
deck openings for gratings, stovechimney
the planking of the deck will be done later on
Build log part 30 to follow....

the combinattion of partially cut away portside planking and actual outside bulwark decor above.

starboard side first metal Support bracket for step platform
second bracket mounted and brought to alignment
platform fit test and weight testing
check out guns placed underneath and ladder inbetween (to be shortend accordingly)
Still Need to do the same experience on port side
Arrangement of chainpump crank handle and bearing supports
view through quarter badge window. Unfortunately the first and the last two links of the Girlande broke off and unfindable got lost somewhere...
I first wanted to decorate the cabins with furniture, but I think I`ll leave it as is (less is more)

Hello Peter,
thanks for looking in and for your comments I like...
In answer to your questions.., most probably no, I don`nt know if the ship had any pinrail on the bulkhead, this is free to the builders Interpretation and is set up only for belaying the aft-carriage guntackle backing ropes that come guided from the eyelets and blocks left / right of the small grating to give free Access to the doors of the bulkheads, without stepping into ropecoils.
As for the Stern this again is the builders Interpretation... I`m not sure what you mean with the "lower Counter", but trust you mean that the hull planking should have been rounded upwards to form a Little "***". I was seeking for stand hight all along and also in the entire great cabin, so I did`nt want to loose space in the aft lower Corner deckline. I was expecting that comment from the other 1/64 Swan class builders as well, but as you have seen already I do`nt take the historic correct look of the Stern too seriously as Long as I am pleased with it myself. Take it as my special note
For example, I do´nt know if there were any gasoil lamps in the rather dark space under the poop, but I simply liked to do some..
Peter, please stay tuned and feel free to comment at any time, I like it, it brings life and interest for all into the builds, even if off the correct way a bit.
Cheers

build log part 26
the forecastle underdeck will be next
Shows what share is cut away of the poop deck
here view into bottom cargo deck with shot locker, lower well area, storage rooms and staircases, and middle deck with upper well area, pantry and staircase.
Forward decks with Crew quarters, staircases. Righthand the sailroom on the middle deck
aft Portion with officers quarters. Masters cabin starboard behind the middle deck stairs, an rum barrel
the guns under the poopdeck will Need to be rigged before the deck gets mounted
shall use figures with 26 mm height (26 x 64 = 1664 mm ) considering the average actual sailors height with 165 cm that seems OK
The upper bulwark / Stern angle brackets are only preliminary, they shall be replaced later

Nigel,
yes, there are 6 of them included in the etch set.
Have now completed the two bulkheads and the intermediate wall in lengthwise direction (with door) between those bulkheads.
Also some extra belaying Points and the oil-lamp lights and door hinges.
Wish there were more hight in These Areas, but then I would have to Change the Amati plan completely.
It was quite a fiddeling work to get those bulkheads in place, the larger one had to be separated in two parts, and then mounted in place, due to the trapez-like shape.
I would reccomend that These bulkheads are planked equiped with all necessary Fitting out and mounted in place before the hull is planked, it would be much easier.
Nils
also two outer clamps port and starboard to the twin double door bulkhead
the intermediate space between the bulkheads
great cabin Forward bulkhead
the upper Portion of the first bulkhead Need to trimmed off Flush when glue is dry

Build log part 25
Fitting out of the aft two bulkheads, that will allow a later look into through the half cut away poopdeck from above
the first mast channel Support brackets are still missing
here the doors for the gundeck aft bulkhead, and the great cabin bulkhead. Because I started the starboard bulwark inner planking in oak, here again oak is used
double doors to the great cabin. The doorpanels are of ply Color framed with Mahagoni
rear side view. Here I`ll leave the Mahagoni Framework for the double doors away, and the brass knobs are only handles
this bulkhead with the two double doors is the aft end of the gun deck, here in raw process...
