Mirabell61 got a reaction from Martin W in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Hi Greg,
Thanks so much for your kind words and compliment...
yes, you are so right, and I also think this model deserves display in the living area of our house, if only there were the space of appr. 150 cm to set it up. The installation of 1 or 2 halogen spots from the ceiling for illumination would not be a problem though...
Thanks again for your thoughts...,
Nils

Hi Greg,
yes, and the admiral has also noticed this,.... pointing out that now there is the time to get house and garden all cleared up, repairs done and all to date postponed work ..., etc...., and whats my secret, I am already holding a set of plans for the next project, but I better not tackle it straight away...

Project completed !
The 26 month duration journey has come to an end, and I would like to thank my international fellow builder freinds for following this build, for their suggestions and helpful comments along the way.
All the appreciative and kind compliments have given me very much drive to get the project complete, in a way that I am myself satisfied with the result.
I´ll choose a representive bunch of pics for exponating into my gallery in a couple of days.
Here come the final photos of the ship as built and in a large set of four lots, and without comments as all pics are self explaining.....
I made a few more detail shots for all those that like details. The only thing missing are the rudder blades and the tillers for the the open lifeboats (paint was`nt dry yet), but I`ll get them on before the KWdG goes into her glass case

Richard,
Thank you,
Bench grinders are quite cheap and essential if you are going to be grinding HSS lathe tool blanks. May be time to reinvest!!!!
Unfortunately as our crew got older we made less and less mistakes. The mistakes are what created the interesting stories. The last trip we were out for 8 days and we broke nothing, not even a cup, glass or plate. In our damage report we were were scraping the barrel with the most significant defect being about 6 inch of stitching which had come adrift on the mainsail bag zip. I have a few historic stories left and may get round to telling them at some time.
John, Thank you for your continuing interest.
Julie, He was besotted from the moment they met and proposed at the top of the Canyon Overlook trail in Zion NP, one knee, ring and all.
Nils, Thank you, The deckhouses are natural antique mahogany, I didn't need to stain them. I can recommend cutting up old furniture.

Mirabell61 got a reaction from Seventynet in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Many thanks to Gerhard, Druxey, Kevin, Ian, Steve and Don,
all the positive response to this completed build is very encouraging to me and making my day...
Gerhard,
its a pleasure sharing with fellow builders, thanks to all that followed...
Druxey,
all suggestions are welcome, the making of the flags I know should have been a bit better. Thanks for the reminder, I`ll try to iron down a copied tranferfoil (with ink jet printer) to a fine weaved handkerchief fibre. Was just too "lazy" to try it out at this small scale, but it worked well on the 1:64 ensign flag of my "HMS Pegasus"
Kevin,
you are always welcome aboard...
Ian,
thanks for your nice words...
Steve,
I`m glad you liked the building journey...
Don,
many thanks for your appreciative words

Hi Dan,
thanks for your words, I feel a ship without figurines is too naked. So one criteria to choose the scale for any new project (amoungst others) is of course... are there adequate figurines available I could use ?
Many thanks for following the log regulary....

Mirabell61 reacted to dvm27 in Swan class 3D model in progress
Admiralty Models has been working with a very talented 3D computer modeler who is building us a Swan class ship model (Pegasus). Besides the exceptional quality of his work, I can see the enormous benefit of a 3D model in showing how all the various pieces fit together. As the model's construction closely follows the actual vessel, it's build may be viewed in sequential layers. Our builder is precisely following the four volume Fully Framed Ship Model series of books, bringing David Antscherl's seminal work to life. In the near future, we will be offering the fully framed and fitted out computer model to those in the process of building a Swan class model or are contemplating building one. Between the Swan books and computer images I believe we will have the most comprehensive instructions and photos available for building a fully framed ship model. Stay tuned!

Mirabell61 reacted to Tigersteve in English Pinnace by Tigersteve - FINISHED - Model Shipways
The first six bulkheads were shimmed port and starboard. This allowed the next plank from the garboard a better fit into the rabbet. The port side plank remains to be fitted. After this is complete the hull will be lined off.
Each plank fitted is a small victory.
