Hello all. Update.
Worked the metallic parts in the bow.
I fixed these parts like this. With thew upper part level with the top part of the keel.
Then I realize they were too low. No room for the anchors holes.
Then I looked more closely and saw that they should be higher: The top part in line with the back of the neck of the figure.
I unglued them and fixed in their new position
They look better now.
I painted them black and then drybrushed the gold so that some of the black showed out. I like the "old" effect.
Thanks for watching!!!

Thank you all for the many likes. They really mean something to me.
Hey Heinz (Karleop), are you coming to Monterrey for your niece's wedding?

Hello all.
Finally the dreaded part 112 is done!!!
I am happy with it although it has its flaws. As you can see there is some unevenness here and there. I'm gonna' have to live with that.
As you can see here, the instructions say to use several 2x2 woods to fill the space and then shape accordingly. I decided to use a piece of balsa instead.
Here I am making a shape with cardboard of the profile.
Planking starts. Due to the nature of the shape and the difficulty to properly clamp these planks, I decided to use contact cement
to do this job. Worked wonderfully. I also changed the size of the planks from .5 x 4 mm to .5 x 3mm.
Making sure both sides of that part will be at the same height.
Both parts are finished and painted. Here is starboard
When finished, I noticed some spots that were a bit bouncy, meaning they were not very well glued. And I was undecided about what color to use here. I decided to give a coat of CA to the entire area and then paint it black, to match the color of the wales. Unfortunately, the paint I used to paint the wales became unusable so I used a different paint, and it shows when looking closely.
General view of the ship at this moment
Thanks for watching, mates.
All the best.
PD We celebrate mother's day today. Best wishes to all moms here, either members or members' mom.

edmay reacted to popeye the sailor in Holiday Harbor by popeye the sailor - 1:20 scale - multi build
I promised these to you the other day.........but the allure of being at the table {and of course, errands}, kept me at bay. I have also been trying to catch up on all the scuttle butt here as well..........I have to say, you folks are far more busy, than I am
so........here is where I am.....where I last left off first, I figured I'd get all the ducks in a row with the aft bulkheads. it took a little sanding, but they are now close to even....all the way back.
the transom looks a bit better too...
the cabin bulkhead wasn't conforming well with the contour. since none of the interior will be seen, I add fillers for the bottom planking.
adding two rows to begin the bottom on the starboard side, I failed to pay attention to the bulkheads meeting with the edge.......you'll see that I add a length of 1/16 strip stock to fill in the nonconformity. I did some sanding here to see how it would even out.......I do want to keep the edge.
one thing I didn't do.......that I should have done........was some tapering at the bow. this in turn caused most of the planking problems at the cabin bulkhead. it does have a plus though........it gives more to the hull sides, instead of transitioning to the turn of the chine. where I didn't install the framing that would create the chine lip {what a way to describe it }, this might be harder to do. I'll have to rely on the hull sides to create it.
now.......I want to do something different with the bottom bow section. this is where the whole problem is. not tapering the bow planks is causing the sides to bow outward. I did taper one of the bottom row planks, but it's not enough.....I should have started sooner. I had a thought to cap off the bottom.......but there is still room on the bow stem for a few more rows of planking , before the garboard is laid. I took a 1/16 strip and cemented it inside, as a shelf for the bottom planking. I later abandoned this as a bad idea.
so, I'm stuck with this at the moment, until I find a suitable remedy.
thoughts of cutting the planking away from the stem and adjusting it there.....comes to mind.........but ohhhhhh, think of the stress. it may even distort the contour of the bow. I have another idea that I'm working on.......I'll see if it works out.
I needed a moral boost....so I cemented the sheer caps on the aft end, around the cockpit bucket. I did some sanding after these were in place.........I can bask in the little ray of sunshine speaking of which.......ya know, it's been really cool 'round here of late. the temps have not been that high. cripes........last week, we were dying with the heat
weather.........she is fickle........AKk--k--k-k-k-k-k-k-k-k!
Note to self : "hey moron! why don't you add the last two pictures! folks wiill think your nutz!"
yea......that would help, now wouldn't dugh!

this past week has been a bit of a let down for me.........I haven't been able to get back to the Tree Boat. I am finding that shaping the bottom the way I want to is going to be a bit of work......I will hopefully get back to her this week >fingers crossed<
thanks to all your kind comments........leave it to me to pick a subject like this. my choice of hulls wasn't the best either....I think I should have thought of 'application' , rather than what I could do with these hulls still..........I'm glad that you folks enjoy the build, even though it's turned into more of a trilogy, than an actual build log.
I dunno John.......I think it's a toss up on the exhaust issue.........vent it to the open air, or vent it below the water line. venting it in the water .....one would think that it would not only pollute the water, but the bubbles rising to the top would burst and vent to the open air. I've only seen venting below the waterline with pleasure boats and larger outboard motors. then again....what do I know......I'm a land lubber
hello Marc....glad to have you aboard if you think this is interesting, wait till I roll out the Bluenose project. I'm actually itching to start it, but the admiral got me the Sergal Thermopylae for Christmas. she'd be hopping mad if I started to mess with it before then.
thanks again everyone........and all who hit the like button. there is more to come!

Wow, Sjors, what ambition - - building such a complicated ship. Looking like you have a great start.
Cheers,

Welcome to my log.
Sovereign of the Seas was a 17th-century warship of the English Navy.
She was ordered as a 90-gun first-rate ship of the line of the English Royal Navy, but at launch was armed with 102 bronze guns at the insistence of the king.
She was later renamed Sovereign, and then Royal Sovereign.
The ship was launched on 13 October 1637 and served from 1638 until 1697, when a fire burned the ship to the waterline at Chatham.

edmay reacted to Keith_W in Scroll Saw question
Haven't seen you around for a while, Geoff! Are you still working on model ships?
FWIW, I do have a Dremel. But I have to say - I have never used any other scroll saw besides the Dremel, so I am not speaking from any position of authority here. The Dremel seems to work OK and does what I ask of it. It does seem rather imprecise and difficult to control, but i'm not sure whether that's a problem with the tool or whether I just don't have the skills.
What do you think is wrong with it, and would I benefit from upgrading to a better scroll saw?

That is how I've always felt. I like the workboats. One of my favorite pictures is of THEALKA. I hope to build her someday.

edmay reacted to RMC in HMS Vanguard by RMC - FINISHED - Amati/Victory Models - scale 1:72
I have finally completed and fitted the screen bulkhead assembly. The 'glass' turned out well. The two pillars closest to the sides need to be trimmed a little (about 1/2mm ech ) to fit which was a bit awkward.
Incidentally I have found Super Glue Gel (CA) is ideal for positioning pieces of decoration. It doesn't run, and a few small drops applied by a pin gives you time to position the piece. In Australia you can get it at Bunnings (Selleys Quick Fix in a small green tube) or ZAP Gel at hobby shops. For most other things I now use slow setting (it's still fairly quick) CA (either ZAP or Delta with the yellow labels).
I have now decided to paint the hull before coppering the bottom. I will follow Arthur's method in layng the plates with the vertical nail impressions towards the stern and the horizontal impression towards the bottom.

It's certainly a shame that all of the data has been lost. It was a wonderful resource. I still have some of the photos of my progress on the Vanguard and I will try to put these up now. I have just competed the wales and the first of the decorative strips (above the top wale) and I will post these when I get a chance.
I have just looked at this post and the photos have apparently gone up in reverse order. As well I was only able to load 9 files to the post, rather than the 10 that was advised elsewhere. The new format will take some getting used to. I hope my next attempt will be a bit less chaotic.
I have tried to add some more photos with comments and have tried to preview the added post. I'm afraid it looks like a dogs breakfast. I'm going to submit it and see what turns up. It is VERY frustrating.
This photo and the two below show my solution to the placement of the last timber strip to the main wale.
Here is the stern view of the completed main wale.
Starting the top wale. I first soak the first strip for a couple of hours, then clamp it in the correct position, leaving it overnight. This gives the correct curvature, I then glue it to the model complete and then cut the holes for the gunports. The remaining strip can then fitted easily below the first.

Planking 2nd layer:
I was game and glued 5 planks to the aft deck side in one go. After this I only do 1 at a time. Too nerve racking wondering if the planks were compressed enough so no gaps !
Picture of a slot for the channels(3 off per side) in the Sheer Strake.

1st Planking:
All 1st planks glued onto the framing, sanded smooth ready for the 2nd planking. Fun begins on the more important, and visual planks.
I learnt a lot fitting the first layer. Found some information on "planking rules" which I practiced on some of the final planks.
I was pretty happy that I got a fair shape in the end. A few mistakes on the way, but hey got to learn.

Stern Feature:
I purchased Karl H Marquardt's "Anatomy of the Endeavour". So much difference in his book of the details to that of the kit. First change - new stern feature.
