Simply gorgeous, Mark. We have the opposite problem (being on the other side of the equator). Weather here is horrible.

Thanks Frank - the stern is so far the most difficult part to do.
Hi Matt from another central Iowan. All the decorations are metal castings. They are somewhat soft so they can be bent to fit. All the windows are also metal castings. I am drilling & filing out the panes so I can use liquid window maker - looks much better than just painted. You can see an example in post #53. The paint is a Vallejo game color called polished gold - it`s the best gold paint I have found.

Depends on how accurate you want it to look, I guess. To my eyes it'd be a significant missing feature.
I'd suggest shaping a new piece to fit the shape of your bow, and filing a notch into the backside into which the point of the bow would fit. Having the stempiece overlap the bow planking would still technically be "wrong", but would simulate "right" far better than leaving it off.
It should be fairly easy to do this, as your bow is straight so you don't have to fit anything to a curve.

edmay reacted to Canute in Corel's SM23 HMS Victory kit question...
Ted, welcome to MSW.
You should start a build log in the kit build section. Many folks have built an HMS Victory kit and are only too willing to help. Read the pinned topics in that section before you start to ensure everybody will know pertinent details. Ask questions in your log. The only dumb one is the one you don't ask.

edmay reacted to Teal2 in Corel's SM23 HMS Victory kit question...
Hi all,
I am fairly new here. I have the Corel Victory. Bought it in 1990 didn't start till 2011. WOW the instructions are non existent as far as being helpful.
I have struggled with it and have, thanks to the Internet and some building from plans experience have done sort of OK. Some mistakes but looking not so bad to date.
I wish the kit came with a layout picture and I'd of the pressed wood parts, some are a bit hard to decide which is which.
I have a problem, how to asses the bowsprit angle and attach it to the hole in the deck.
Can anyone help?
I have attached a couple of pics of my build, please forgive some of the errors, especially the gangway steps.
Ted

@Elijah
Thank you and I have already put them in place. I had to do some cutting and filing on the bow to get the figurehead a bit lower. Otherwise it will not be possible to get the bowsprit in the right position as I figured out today.
Some pictures....
