  1. Hi, The party just started so no you are not! Really nice progress. I like your deck planking. Some questions about your build: 1) What glue you used for deck planking? 2) Did you draw the lines for deck after glueing or did the sides before installing the planks? 3) Will you paint the model? Wahka
  2. 1) it was easier to insert them and also remove. Plus they push one plank against the other. It was too timeconsuming to insert nails to nailpin also. 2) No didnt use it. I soaked them in hot water and then curved them around a can and fixed with clamps for overnight to give the shape(golden coffecan on the right). Covered the whole can with planking strips. Also tried Amatis planking cutting blade (https://store.amatimodel.com/en/tools-and-equipment-parts-per-model/product-form-a-strip-b7381.html) but it disnt suit me. Liked my way better.
  3. Hi Building my first ship also and happens to be Terror :). i used pva glue for decl planking that i applied with brush on deck. Then it evens out and dont push out so much(found that out in later stage). i have seen that some do caulking before(you still need to so after glueing from one side to an other). I did it after glueing-check my log. I would suggest to do a trial run with few planks before glueing and decide then. You are doing a good job!
  4. Hello friend from Baltics. From Estonia myself-not many builders there also.
  5. Hi all Intreduced myself in newcomers area and got a suggestion to start a build log. This is basicly my first real wooden ship build. Started Bounty Constructo 10 years ango and almost finished the hull planking but qualitybwas terrible. I chose HMS Terror based on reviews and size of the ship. I think it will give me the basics of building and also test my nerve. At the moment I have finished 1st planking and didnsomeminitial rough test sanding. Im happy with the outcome taken into account its my first build. Im not uet sure if i paint the model or not. It depends how the 2nd planking looks and feels. I will probably need help with rigging. Ordered a lot of books about that so hopefully will manage it. In my mind i have accepted that it will not lookmthe best but it will feels one of the beat builds by being first and beautiful. Question: 1)What glue you use for second planking, would PU based wood glue be ok? 2) Should I apply wood filler before first rough sanding or after? Here is progress so far:
  6. thank you everyone for good support! Today I finished first planking. Also tried to sand one side a bit to see how it looks. For a first timer i happy with the outcome. I put some woodfiller to gaps and hopefully that will make the overall look even better.
  7. Hi everyone, Have been reading the forum for months now and thought it would be wise to intreduce myself and start my own build log to get advice from others. Im 33 years young engineer for facades myself with big intrest in modelling and history as long as i can remember. I have started Constructo Bounty 10 years ago but due to life I didnt finish it. Got almost to point where hull was planked (quality of my build was terrible). Few years ago I started bulding some pastic models (Bismark 1:350 Tamya) and Ugears wooden models (trains, ships, cars). Seeing that building models gives me satisfaction cause i build something beautiful I thought I should step up in the field. Thats how i came to wooden ship modelling. Plastic models just didnt have that spirit in them. Wood somehow feels alive. So taken all that into account I have started big (like I usually do when I start something). I ordered Terror and Beagle from Occre, bought all the tools, built up working area in flat and also organised my tools with Occre working startion. I started building Terror in the middle of January working on the evening when son is sleeping (1,5 years old, have tried to build it together but impossible). So every other day I work 2-3 hours in the evening time on my ship. My progress so far is that I have allmost completed the hull planking. Taken into account that its my real first planking Im quite happy with result (wood filler and sanding will fix my mistakes hopefully). What i have learned so far: 1) Be careful with glue - i have a habbit to apply it to much and then it runs on other surfaces also. 2) Preparation with sanding before planking is really important - spend 1 hours more here otherwise you will spend 10 hours more later by fixing missalignements. 3) Do test with the glues to find suitable one - there is no right of wrong as long as it works, find a suitable for yourself. Reagarding building I have made allready following mistakes: 1) overglued the deck planking. Tried to fix it with mahagony varnish - glue was still visible. Sanded the whole deck in 3 hours. Somehow the outcome is really good with old/used look (in my opinion). 2) Didnt sand the bulkwards well - had problems doing the planking. Areas where i need you helo the most are probably: 1) Planking techiques - to get it even nicer. 2) Rigging - have read a lot and ordered few books to get it right. I guess thats it for the moment. Here are progress pictures so far:
