Ok, the flybridge (I suppose), does not sit well, and I wanted to join it before I painted. All the molded hatches have been shaved and will be added with etch afterwards. Major step as far as I'm concerned. Primer coat next.

Hey guys, just a little update on the wale planking. It it going surprisingly well steam bending the ebony. I do not have my steam machine like I used to, no where to set it up, so as a replacement steam machine, I am using a rice/veggie steamer

Much time has passed, but now i am back

Next step was to build the deadeyes and chainplates for the main-platform.

For the holes in the deadeyes I need a helpfull tool.
The tool it´s made from wood and brass.

The deadeyes are made on the lathe

After drilling the deadeyes the edges are chamfered  upward

Now it´s time to made the chainplates.
The plates have the dimensions of 1 mm x 0,5 mm x 12mm; above an eye and down a long hole 0.5 mm x 1 mm

    The plates in position

The plates are fixed with glue on the deadeyes ready for stropping

The stropp for deadeyes is made with a real splice
The rope, made from three strands, will opend and for each strand i use a needle to made the splice.

All deadeyes are finish spliced on plates

    Have fun

    HI ALL

SOME MORE COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN MADE.

I STARTED WITH THE FORE , AFT AND CAPSTAN STEPS........THESE WERE MADE FROM EUROPEAN BOX BY WAY OF A SMALL CONTRAST TO THE PRIMARY TIMBER OF CASTELLO BOX.

PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD TO MAKE....THE DADO FOR THE KEELSON WAS CUT ON THE BYRNES SAW.

LIMBER STRAKES ARE UNDER MANUFACTURE...CUT FROM CASTELLO SHEET TO 1/16" THICK BY 3/16" WIDE.

THE INNER EDGE OF THIS RECIEVES A RABBET FOR THE LIMBER BOARDS 1/32" BY 1/32".

I WASNT TOO HAPPY ABOUT CUTTING THIS ON THE SAW SO I USED THE PROXXON MILL.
THE PHOTOS SHOULD BE SELF EXPLANATORY, I HOPE, BUT IF NOT FEEL FREE TO ASK.

THERE ARE THREE STRAKES PER SIDE....THE CENTRAL STRAKE BEING STRAIGHT WITH A SCARF AT EITHER END.
THE FORE AND AFT STRAKES HAVE TOO BE CURVED TO MEET WITH THE KEELSON. I HAVE DECIDED TO TRY CHUCKS EDGE BENDING METHOD WITH THESE AND SO FAR ITS WORKING PRETTY WELL.

MAIN DECK CLAMPS HAVE BEEN CUT 3/16" BY 3/32"...I THINK THERES A LITTLE MORE FAIRING REQ BEFORE THESE GO IN.

    PHOTOS ENCLOSED FOR YOUR DELICTATION!

    CHEERS....MICK

This week I was finally able to finish the last major piece of the machinery.  With the paddle wheel clutch mechanism in place I can drop the boiler deck in place.  I will miss all the metalwork but, I'm really looking forward to the woodwork.

Heroine's port throw out lever.  roughly forged from  3/8 inch strap.  The handle is roughly octagonal at the strap and tapers to round.

The pins that engage the bearing are about one inch in diameter with a two inch head.  Inserted through holes in the strap, the protruding ends were then hammered flat.  The pins show a lot of wear from rubbing against the bearing.

    Straps fresh from the mill.

Soldering the handles and pins to the straps.

    Finished throw out parts.

Clutch mechanism installed.  I decided to show the starboard side with the bearing engaged and the port side disengaged.

    On to the boiler deck.

I have temporarily installed the boiler deck on poplar posts in about half of the post holes.  Next week I'll replace them one by one with boxwood posts, aligning and plumbing them as necessary.

Per request to keep the pictures coming here we go. I decided to make the False Keel from ebony as shown on the material list. I think it gives a nice contrast. It's my first and only glue joint on this project so far. There is also a shot of my frame parts and a dry fit frame part on the keel. The keel is made from Boxwood and the frame timbers are Swiss Pear.

I can't wait to get a frame glued up. Maybe in the next few days.

I feel like I am jumping in the deep end with this one but since I got the new Byrnes saw I wanted a special project to learn how to use it and my Sherline mill. I used the mill to cut the rabbit and it came out pretty good if I must say so myself.

It will be slow going for a while because I am still working the schooner and don't want to set it aside completely.

I will have plenty of questions and welcome any help offered.

I use normally veneer for treenails, if I need a diameter smaller 0.7mm. For pear I uss pear treenails.

I cut small square strips. Then I  draw them 3-4 times through the draw plate. They are not perfectly round, but I can hammering them in the whole. After this the are round.

Hull has been split into three parts by cutting through the keel and rising wood where the biggest gaps were.
Isopropyl is now being applied to remove the entire old keel from the sections, it's length had changed by 1/8", also some frame thicknesses were checked and only the midships area shows shrinking across the grain, so I'm hoping to save the fore and aft sections.

    Why do you apologize?

The styrene kits are some times better than wooden kits. It's not the material, it#s the model builder who makes the model.

I'll follow your log with great interest

    hi all

time for another update. been busy installing gun port sills and stern framing,

starboard side stern framing had to come out as I made a boo boo with a couple of measurements.

    port side is ok.

made up a clamp to act as a saw guide for cutting out the sill rebates.....just a couple of pieces of 1/16 x 1/4 brass with tapped holes on one piece and clearance holes on the other for 3/4 inch 8ba bolts......I used an 8ba box spanner to tighten the nuts.....the silver tube in the photos.

just one more set of sills to go before I start on the lintels and finish the stern framing......then the sweep ports to fit.....and on to fairing the internals before fitting the keelson pieces.

    photos enclosed as per usual.

all comments and screams of approbation welcome.

    cheers for now.......mick
