    Hello folks,
Based on suggetions from @thibaultron and @allanyed, I've made some more modifications to the 6-pounder.  Namely, I added the trough, reshaped the cascabel, and adjusted the breech rings.  Here are a couple of screen shots.  Once people are good with these latest changes I'll post the .stl and .cbddlp files for everyone to use.

When I feel up to it I'll make a gunlock for this cannon.

    Regards,
    Gabe

    Planking has begun,  lol
Yes I reread the Linning off your hull by  @Chuck in the article data base,  and almost got this time. It is hard to do with out understanding math, reading better would help to , lol.
But the planks are on  the port side.

I have some slight damage to the bow below the water line , it was done by clamps that were way to tight, it will be covered by the copper  . On a positive note,  my ship doesn't rattle yet lol.
So on to the starboard side, one more try at getting it right .

I did change the yellow, from old English  ochre to Bright yellow, the first Mate says it looks better. Time will tell.
I can't thank everyone enough for all the help I have been getting.  With out NRG and MSW  I would be lost.
I am deciding on how to proceed with the  copper. Some paint the hull copper below the water line,  to hide caps in the copper plates, more   Research is needed . They say a coat of paint covets a multitude  of mistakes, I am hoping that the copper covers  all of mine . It will be a week or so before I start  coppering,  so I have lots of time.
Captain Marvin says" time to plank  the starboard side,  get it right this time or I am going to jump ship and join @Glen McGuire crew, where they are havin a BBQ,  Beer and Burgers  celebrating his fine competition  of his build.
So long my friends  talk soon

Take a look at the drawing above that Ron posted, it should help you.   We have been working on a similar project where-in we have 3D drawings of Browne (1625), Commonwealth (1650)  Borgard (1716)  Armstrong Frederick (1760) , and Blomefield (1791) patterns.   Still have a ways to go with Armstrong (1725), additional Blomefields, Pitt,  Spanish, and French patterns that are only complete in 2D at this time.

The only noticeable difference between the Armstrong and Armstrong Frederick patterns is that there is no trough on the Armstrong pattern and the cypher is for George 2 rather than George 3.  Otherwise, the breech, first and second reinforce, and chase along with the astragal rings are virtually the same based on drawings found in Adrian Caruana's The History of English Sea Ordnance volume 2.

It is 1/2" in diameter, for the 24 pounder.

From guns I've seen, the touchhole is not more than ½" in diameter - perhaps 3/8" or even less.

Scaling the photo that Ron posted the hole appears to be about 1/2" to 5/8" diameter.  If anyone has something more definitive based on contemporary sources I would be grateful to know.

Here is a SketchUp drawing of the flash pan for the long 24 pounder. Feel free to use it for your 6 pounder. Scaling will be needed, but the general layout is the same. I've included a graphic of the drawing, and a picture of an actual cannon.

Have a look at my HMS Fly log Blue Ensigns HMS Pegasus log - nothing wrong with copper if you get it right and when you do it looks great! I used copper strips - sort of like a tape but you can snap off the individual plates to tune it to the curves. I disagree with Keith, the scale is fine but you have get it right as once you start there is no going back. Other choice, if you don't want all natural, is paint in off white/cream. Unless the planking is immaculate, see Blue Ensigns logs (his planking is always immaculate), copper or paint hides all of the ills of us less skilled. I also used an unusual aging technique for my copper plating. The outcome looks good to my eye but it does need a leap of faith...

Bob, personally I don't like copper plating the hull as IMHO the copper plates look out of scale. If I were to ever build a model with a copper plated hull I'd paint it with copper paint and call it done. If you insist on plating I suggest copper tape. From reading several build logs with builders using both, the tape seems to apply easier with a better end result, once again IMHO. Your planking looks great.

That planking looks really good, Bob.  I can't believe how fast you got that done.  As for this comment, however...
Capt Marvin is welcome as long as he doesn't say those B words around my cows!  They are very sensitive!

I actually just guessed at the vent diameter because the drawing I referred to in AotS Diana only showed the barrel with the gunlock.  If you have diagram with the trough I can easily add it.  To be honest, I knew that this detail would be almost invisible at 1:64 so I didn't fret too much.

    Hi  Gabe
Thank you for sharing this.  Will you be adding the trough around the vent?   Do you or does any member know the vent diameter?

Update long 24 pounder STL. This is scaled to full size 3262.31mm. You can scale that to whatever scale you need. I messed up with the first file, by not scaling it properly. My cat escaped and while chasing her, I forgot where I was in a program, and messed it up. This file has been scaled and error checked using Netfabb.
