  1. Ah,best laid plans and all that. the bottom sample looks good,i've never tried this but if both of your stain and varnish are the same base (water?) you could try mixing some stain into the varnish to darken it a little more?
  2. Hi damaartenman,i agree its a shame to paint the wood, could i suggest a coat or two of walnut stain to darken the strakes?
  3. I forgot to add occre have a how to build playlist on youtube for buccaneer
  4. I'll second that Ronald, very, very nice.mercedes builds into a great looking model,i look forward to following your project.
  5. Hi Ammrok,i think your log should be in the subjects built 1501-1750 section,if you contact a moderator and ask they will be happy to help move it.The kit your building looks pretty much the same as occre's golden hind which was my first build. The part your not certain about stops the mast bottom moving left and right where it sits on part 1.It looks like parts 12 in the centre and rear are fitted correctly, just do the same with the foreward part 12.I really enjoy building occres models, the plans are not to bad to begin with and there are lots of logs on here for Buccaneer,Golden Hind and Revenge which all seem to me to be built on the same frame to help you.Unfortunatly the rigging plans leave an awful lot to be desired and i think the best bit of advice i can give you is to invest a couple of quid on 'rigging period ship models' by Lennarth Petersson.Good luck with your build Ammrok,i look forward to following your progress.Regards Mark
  6. Hi Dan,appologise for no log,i no longer posses a camera and as i spend most of my time closly examining pictures of the part im currently working on i dont think a text only log would attract any attention :-).If theres anything i can help with please feel free to pm me but im sure chris will answer any questions you have.I spent yesterday building the rudder and post, and the 24 pounders, all of which flew together very easily and look fantastic. ps.if anybody is reading this considering Adder as there next build please do not be put off by my use of the word struggle,i cannot recommend vangaurd models highly enough.
  7. Hello again, just read Chris's comment and i did just as he suggests.i managed 4 planks down from the bulwark with a 50 percent taper then worked my way up from the bottom.sorry i could have been more helpful in my first post.
  8. Hi Dan,i finished the second planking on Adder yesterday and have to admit i really struggled, definetly not the easiest bow i've planked.
  9. Hello Dave, your anchor stocks look great,so much better than the supplied parts.i understand the rings were puddened with tared canvas to stop the hemp rope chaffing, yes your quite right friction.
  10. Hello James, could you tell me if the sails you used were the set included with the kit or the deluxe pre sewn kit offered as an extra?thanks in advance, regards mark
  11. Hello Dave, saw your post in Jobbie's brig Supply log.Like you i chose Lady Nelson after much studying of msw and suggestions from members on a first build, but also bought HM Brig Supply at the same time couse i liked the look of her so much.I have to admit i really struggled with the planking,it took three attemps till i was satisfied but this took almost a month of daily work during lockdown. As frustrating as i found it i decided to start Supply to practice my planking.Much to my suprise the planking flew on,i enjoyed myself so much instead of going back to Lady Nelson i decided to crack on with Supply.I'm at the point of fitting the masts and to be honest am dead chuffed at how well shes turned out. The only dissapointment with the caldercraft kit were the instructions(although the Amati were not much better),i think Supply is one of there earlier kits, the instructions for Badger are far better. After reading your log(to which i have subbed)i'm sure you would have no problems as a second build.Whatever you choose as your next build i hope you enjoy it,regards Mark
