  1. Hi Red, I have started my own build of the Syren, and wanted to let you know that I have been following your build for the past few weeks and you have been an incredible resource for me. I have really enjoyed your newbie notes and your comments on issues as they arise in the build - they have been a tremendous help, along with the information from NRG members such as Overworked, WalrusGuy and others. I will continue following and learning from you guys as I continue with my build. PaddyO
  2. I have just started building the Syren and I am going to use your build log as a primary reference ! What a beautiful model you have made!
  3. Shipping costs are pretty outrageous, especially if you are outside the USA. I went to order a copy of the Handbook last night and when I got to shipping, the cost to send the copy to Canada was $33.00. Because of that price, I removed my order for the book.
  4. Great build Glenn. I have enjoyed following your build of the Sherbourne in parallel with making the model myself. I look forward to following along with your Harpy build.
  5. I don't know about the Caldercraft version of the model, but I purchased the VM version and I am extremely happy with the quality of the kit, the very clear and detailed instructions and how beautiful the model is turning out. It is a fantastic kit for the less experienced model builder (like me) and gives you lots of confidence to continue to develop your skills in building wooden model ships.
  6. Hi Stuka, I had the same questions about where specifically to apply the glue to the bulwarks in building my Sherbourne. Craig has correctly stated how to approach it. Good work so far, and I will be following to see how you progress.
  7. Thanks James for that great clarification. I was asking the same question about gluing the bulwarks on my Sherbourne kit, and your response was exactly what I was needing to hear.
  8. Thank you for the info on this. I was thinking that trying to remove the upper part of the bulkheads after gluing them would really cause issues with the inner side of the bulwark when I go to install the finished pieces over top. Paddy
  9. Hello Robert, I just received my kit of the Sherbourne and am following along with your build. This is a fantastic kit! You are doing a great job and I am learning quite a bit. I have a question for you regarding gluing on the first layer plywood bulwarks. When you glued them on, did you also apply glue to the upper part of the bulkhead frames that sit above the deck or did you just apply glue along the lower edges of the bulwark? I know that in the coming steps, I have to remove the upper parts of the bulkheads (above the deck) and am thinking if the bulwark is glued to them, then it is going to be very difficult to remove cleanly so that I can apply the inner finished bulwark pieces. Appreciate your insight on this as I don't want to make a mistake on attaching the bulwarks that might create other issues. Paddy
