Sjors reacted to popeye the sailor in Thermopylae by popeye the sailor - Sergal - 1:124 scale
with the finish of the stern railing, I figure I have enough finished fittings to add them to the ship. for the poop railing, I added a thin strip of mahogany on the top and gave it a coat of flat lacquer. I would have done this to the stern railing, but bending it in the way I'd have to, would be a fool's errand.
in adding this.....I need the ladders now. I made a pair......they're not perfect, but they do the job.
the stern railing was added next......these pictures don't do it justice. I took several, and these two were the best.
I dry fitted the fife rails and think they are a little too tall. I'm thinking of shortening the legs, but it might be harder when it come to rigging. chance I'll have to take I guess.

I think I've gone stark railing mad!!!!!! I think I've practiced enough......time to make the ones I really need. the fife rails and overhead racks have been painted.......now they dry.
these railings came out the best I've done yet.......
too bad they are the wrong length........can't cut 'em down either. I made another pair. I'l making them the same way I did the others........sandwich them to create a ladder, and then cut it in half, making two identical railings. I'm sure I can use them somewhere. as you may recall......I had cut out two of the transom cap rails........the one I didn't use ended up in the box. I will use it to make the railings. sanding it down in width, the holes were drilled in it........trying hard to keep it from breaking, and the stanchion spacing even.
more wires were cut.......I had used my reserve up. they were then cemented around the base.......I didn't make a pair like the others.
using the jig I made, they were all trimmed to length.
the thin wire was strung onto the stanchions........those tweezers work great! they straighten the wire really good.
once the Ca dried, all three railings were painted.
now I need to make a pair of ladders........these are going to be small

More stern planks. I think I'm pretty close to hiding all my mistakes when I veneer plank the hull. If I were coppering it the same would apply.

Hi Terry,
I just have to echo Cog about the kit.
When I build her it was totally different!
I see that you have a lot of sanding to do on the hull when you want a smooth hull.
Use filler and use a lot.

Continuing to build the stern. This is rough veneer planks plus the decorative trim that will eventually be installed. You can see where I screwed up rough planking by the stern post. I'll correct all that with sanding, filler then veneer planks. First I have to finish the bottom half of the stern.

Here's my supply of veneer. I'll be using some to build the transom even though I'm a long way from putting veneer on the hull.

More work on the stern. This piece will greatly strengthen the whole thing. While I was fitting the several pieces that comprise of the upper part of the stern, the ship slipped off my holding rack and the tip of the bowsprit broke off! Thank goodness it glued back with a perfect fit even though the break was jagged.

Hey cog and CDW. I happy to read your posts. cog I already have my hull completed on 1 side and over 3/4 done on the other. I hope i can still get the bow thruster installed. Im not closing in the top at all, untill the thruster and the rest of the rc components installed.
Hey Craig, I was told by several builders NOT to take on the Rotterdam for my 1st boat build. Thaey said i was too ambitious. Well, I had confidence and never did listen very well, thats just boring! I dont know what your experience is, but yes, a amateur can build this. But you have to do a lot of research, get involved with a ton of facebook groups, web forums like this one, you tube videos and what ever else you think of. Ask a ton of questions. Be open to criticism.
I love the web forums for boats (there are not many) They are serious about having fun. Theres no BS allowed and there are a lot of experienced builders.
Go buy your favorite canoe, slow and steady!

Thank you all......
The color is better then I thought
@ Tom,
Sorry , I missed your post.
The wood is not that bad.....
It's not Caldecraft but I can work with it.
The only thing with Ochre is that they have a lot of metal parts in the kit.
When you want to bash it then this is a good opportunity.....( difficult word for me )
But overall I'm happy.
And it is not the first OcCre kit that I'm building.
1 : Spirit of Mississippi
2 : Corsair
3 : San Ildefonso
4 : Santísima Trinidad.....
And Anja is building the Nuestre Señora del Pilar.
So you see.....we are keeping OcCre busy
@ Sam,
Just keep looking at the build log for kits.
You know me by now....one build at the time is not enough.
I know what you want to say....what about the Stage Coach ?????
You are right about that but I don't feel the need to work on it right now.....sorry......
@ Piet,
I will send you new glasses.....
That's Hennie with that anchor, not me !
We are in the picture before that.
The picture with Anja and myself, looking at some models.
But I understand that you prefer to see Anja .....

Thanks Denis and Ulises.
Also that for the likes.
@ Ulises,
When the popcorn bag is empty ....just re-fill it
I have plank the decks.
The lower gun deck has also a layer of tung oil.
And I see the other ones also .....Morning Sjors.
I also post a few pictures with the beginning of the planking and the end result.
The bow section looks if it needed some modifications but don't forget...there is a lot that comes at the wall.
So maybe a little sanding paper?

Time for a update.
As I told you before, I receive my false keel.
I place all the frames on it and I'm happy
Also the first deck is ready .
The picture you see the deck without any varnish.
Tomorrow I will place a picture with tung oil on it.
I will do that tonight so it can dry.
The second picture will show you "little" clamps
Just for sure that everything stick together......

Sjors got a reaction from popeye the sailor in Smit Rotterdam by FrozenRabbit471 - Billing Boats - 1:75
Hello Terry,
Anja was saying to me that there was a build log of the Smit Rotterdam.
Found it !
In my early days of building , I have build it myself.
And because we are living close to Rotterdam and I have seen that tug boat many times in real life, I will take a seat and will watch the birth of this beauty !
Do your best and if there are any questions......just ask !
And now I'm here , it is tradition that I place a popcorn machine.
So I see a free corner.
If you don't like it, please tell me and I will remove it.

@Wayne,
Welcome also.
You found a nice place ?
@ mtdoramike,
Thanks Mike ( I call you Mike if you don't mind )
I have soak the keel for 1/2 hour.
Then I let it dry for 3 days with weight on it.
When it was dry yesterday I make it loose and in 1 hour it was this again.
I see that you are living in Florida.
With a lot of sunshine ?
I'm from the Netherlands and sunshine is a weather thing that we don't see much......
Then a concrete driveway.....
The only way that we are having is a highway !
And I can try that
But Occre is sending me a new one so I'll will wait for that.
But thanks for your help!

I can do anything Viking....
I'll have to wait for my replacement !
And I just received an E-mail from OcCre
"This warped it’s due to the change of temperature.
When you place the hull reinforcement, the keel gets straight, but your keel is very warped. We will replace it.
In some days you will receive the replacement pieces."
So they have really a great service ( what i already know )
So, I'm gonna wait.....and wait.....and wait.....

Sjors got a reaction from coxswain in Santísima Trinidad by Sjors - OcCre - 1:90
I just post some pictures so you can see what I mean.
Everything I try was not working.
So I have send OcCre this morning an E-mail with the same pictures.
I'm curious what they are saying about this.
But I think it's gonna be the best way to go to the store and see if I can find some wood of 5 mm thickness.
Then I have to scratch a new keel.
But I will make that then in one piece and not two.
But first I will wait for an answer from OcCre.

You are more then welcome .
And there is plenty of space left on the first row.

Sjors got a reaction from coxswain in Santísima Trinidad by Sjors - OcCre - 1:90
Story continues.....
Everything is dry drift to see how it goes.
At the pictures you can see that there is a warped keel/frame/bulkhead.
I put clamps on it to see if I can get it straight.
When I glue the frames/bulkheads ,maybe I can keep it straight.
I know that the glue I'm using are very strong when it is dry.
What do you think.

Sjors got a reaction from coxswain in Santísima Trinidad by Sjors - OcCre - 1:90
I have moved the clamps and place the re-enforcements to put the false keel together.
That is drying and I hope that I have a straight false keel.
If not, I have to see what I'm doing.
In the mean while I'll be starting to make the barge's.
Then I have to do something !
Sjors

Sjors got a reaction from coxswain in Santísima Trinidad by Sjors - OcCre - 1:90
I have done something
The front false keel is still under the clamps.
Also frame nr 8
So I place the back of the false keel.
There is a beginning !
( and in the back you see the Nuestra Sēnora del Pilar from Anja )
