    I've done something more.
Place the waterways and paint them.
Make the stair to the lower deck and make the safety railing.
    Also start the planking.

I was attempt to put on the main deck.
    But then…….It not fits perfect.
As you can see in the picture, between the two parts I have a opening.
If I put them together , the holes for the mast are wrong between the lower deck and the main deck.
The planking goes over it, and also over the frame openings.
So you don't see it after the planking.
The last picture is a joke of Anja.
She wants to see the difference size.
San Ildefonso down and the Halve Maen up.
When both ships are finished, the Halve Maen don't need a tugboat

    Hello everybody,

My surprise has finally arrived. My neighbors/friends went on vacation to Spain. They brought me something that I really wanted and I want to share it with all of you.

I want to thank Ricardo (gas-666)  for all his help in making this possible. He was my contact with a Spanish hobby shop to get this kit.
Normally you have to be a member of the OcCre club before you can buy this kit. When you are a member, you are receiving 1 box every 1 1/2 month. So, in total it will take about a year before you have all the boxes and there are 8 of them.

I didn't want to wait that long, so Ricardo has sent e-mails to see if it was possible to get all the boxes at once (in one buy). And the results are in the pictures.

Ricardo, thank you very much for all your help in making this purchase possible  http://www.shipsofscale.com/phpBB3/images/smilies/handgestures/thumbupleft.gif http://www.shipsofscale.com/phpBB3/images/smilies/greetings/clapyellow.gif

And now I like to present to you the San Ildefonso.

    Length - 1290 mm
    Hight - 895 mm
    Width - 470 mm

In 1784 work on the construction of the ship San Ildefonso began in Cartagena, based on a design by José Romero de Landa, who had been asked to build a 74-gun ship that would serve as a prototype for the future vessels of the Spanish Royal Navy, and under his direction.

Following favourable reports from her sea trials, she was adopted as the model for another seven ships that were built over the coming years, and which came to be known as the "Ildefonsinos".
After seeing action on numerous occasions, both in the Mediterranean Squadron and the Ocean Squadron, she took part in the battles of Cape St. Vincent in 1797 and Trafalgar, in 1805. At Trafalgar, under Commodore Don José Vargas, and forming a part of the combined fleet's observation squadron, she was one of the fastest in the fleet. 34 of her crew members were killed and another 148 wounded.

I think it is a twin sister of the Montañes.
This build will be very slow because I also have Le Mirage to finish.
She is my main build, but I know that I can't keep my hands out of the box. So sometimes you will see a little progress on the San Ildefonso.

I hope you will also join and guide me in this build.

    Thank you and enjoy watching!

Sjors  (Glad to back on MSW!)

I have just done a few running rigging.
I had some problems with the rope that goes down at the main mast.
The blocks where again in a twisting mood
Tomorrow I will begin at the stays.
No pictures because my external disc has left me....broke.
I need to buy another one before I can save the pictures.
    So everyone, be patient......

    Main topgallant stay
    Main topmast stay
    Main topmast preventer stay

Then I have try to make a connexion between the eyebolt and the stay ....but again, the rope going on his own way....turning around again !
It takes some time before all the stay's are on the eyebolts.

Because it is Kings day tomorrow ( birthday of our King Willem Alexander ) I thought by myself....ok,
I'm the king of the ratlines, Crow's feet and popcorn machine, why I give myself not a present
So here you are.....A chop saw !
    Let the wood coming !!!!!!!

And not only that, I have also do a little rigging.
I have to see in the book what it calls
There we go : On the bowsprit we have....
    Jib stay
    Fore topgallant stay
    Flying jib stay
    Fore royal stay

I'm not using that chop saw for the rigging but for the Aggy when I go further on her with the second planking.

    As promised a few pictures.
That's the last for todays building.
Now I go to please some passengers…..
The bell is in place and the drawing was saying I have to attach them straight to the holder.
I don't like that so I put a little rope on it with a longer piece with at the end a bead.
    My first scratch build
Also the railings are in place and varnish them.
All the stairs are in place and glued.
Tomorrow there is an other change to do something….
Like making holes on to the gratings for my canon balls……( If Anja don't hide them again ) and put the chess pieces in place and all the other furniture.
Maybe not all tomorrow but I hope by the end of this week everything is in place.
    I'll keep you posted.
I wish you a beautiful and quit sunday.

I decided I needed a break from half-frames.  So for a few days I've been doing some prosthetic work on my Admiral's fake leg.  So far, I haven't screwed it up even though I'm hitting it with a heat gun,  dremel and cut off wheel, and tolulene.

As time permits, I cleaned up the salvaged keelson along with the salvaged fore and main mast steps.  The keelson is now glued into position after tweaking the fit and the mast steps are fitted but not glued.  There's markings inside for re-fitting them into position and also marked up the exterior for drilling and fitting the pedestals.    As soon as I can figure out a way to drill them square in all dimensions (not a square hole but exactly perpendicular) I'll do it.  This beast is too big for the drill press or the mill... <sigh>

Also, minimal fairing at this point on the inside of the hull.

Anyway... picture.  And as always, errors, omissions, and stupid mistakes, while not always intentional are subject to be commented upon by those who read this.

Thank you all for visiting and your likes, much appreciated.  I'm glad that all yuns like my build!!

After helping Gwen sawing off a few dead branches from our bottle brush bush and some other minor yard work I mozied on into the garage to work some more on the torpedo launcher.
I decided to move to the aft end of the launcher unit and attempt to fabricate the center air tubes and hopefully solder them to the launcher.
I'm still thinking about the door actuating system.  I may have to move the actuator cylinder back a few mm's to give me some more space for the wiggy waggy rods

I took a 1.6 mm copper tube and cut two pieces off that would fit as the photo shows.  To make the bends down between the two tubes I inserted a small length of brass rod, to prevent the pipes from collapsing, and carefully started the bend from the end of the tubes and worked my way back till I had the right bend.  Oh, I checked it several times though     I must have bend hundreds of aluminum and steel pipes of various sizes for aircraft fuel and oil systems.  There we used sand to fill the pipes and plug them with wooden dowels.  Then we use commercial pipe bending tools.  Well, these pipes are just too small to use that system.

Sorry, no video but yuns know how to bend tubing, yes?

I figured they needed to be slightly separated from each other and cut two small pieces of 0.6 mm brass strips for that purpose.
To solder these pieces in between on the ends I placed first a sliver if thin wood, actually a piece of one ply from some leftover plywood.  Then I could clamp the two tubes together where I put this piece of wood as a spacer and the clamp also acted as a heat-sink for the joint flanges.  No problem so far and set this all up like a Rube Goldberg solder jig.  It required very little heat and the solder flowed nice without much to clean off.

The dry test looked good and fit okay.  I next had to make the 90 degree angle at the aft ends for the air pipes to mate with the torpedo tubes.  I filed the ends to about 45 degrees and cut two small copper tubes with one end also filed to 45 degrees.  These small pieces of 1.6 mm tubes are also about 2 mm long and I figured I can file them to fit when checking again before soldering this assembly to the torpedo tubes.

As one of the pictures show I took two small pieces of 0.6 mm brass rod and bend one end to about 45 degrees.  I slid the longer end of the bend up rods into the pipes and then the small copper tube pieces on the short ends till they met the 90 degree cuts of the pipes.  They mate up pretty good and figured that the solder would fill in the gaps and I could file a nice looking end bend in the pipes.

This may be a crude way of making a 90 degree bend in a pipe but it could not be done any other way with such a tight bend.

I jigged this up again and soldered the pipe ends to the pipes.  It worked okay and after filing away the solder and dressing it I had good enough looking bend pipes.  Dry fitting, filing, dry fitting, filing, etc till I was happy with the fit and looks.

Okay, now came the time to solder these air pipes to the torpedo tubes.  I used a small pair of vice grips to hold it all together and used it as a heat sink.  First I soldered the front of the left pipe to the flange.  I cranked up the heat on the soldering iron to about 425 degrees F.  It worked great, used very little solder.

Now to solder the aft parts of the pipes to the last flange.  It worked great as well and I'm a happy camper.

It's beginning to look more like the photo now

Okay, here are a few pics of today's work.

This shows my Rube Goldberg soldering jig for soldering the spacers.  The pipes are shown upside down.

This shows both spaces soldered between the pipes.

Here I'm dry fitting the pipe assembly.  The aft ends still need work.

Here you see my trusty vice grip plier to hold things together and as a heat sink.  Here I have not yet filed the 45 degree angles to the pipe ends but I have made and inserted the small rods for the bend ends.

I did not make a picture of fabricating the small ends of the pipes, sorry.  But here is the completed air pipe project and you can see the 90 degree ends.

    Cheers,

Yes you will see the end result   Truth is,I took a new job four months ago.Whilst the job is fantastic, the 80 mile a day commute and 74 hours a week out of the house through work isn't   .The house is going up for sale with a view to relocation closer. This means I have to be prepared to be without the large workshop and may be restricted to a kitchen table or spare room for some time. This is the reason for flitting between builds as I want to get the biggest mess making jobs out the way.I will then have a few years of fitting out, masting and rigging without concerns over space

    Kind Regards
