Thought I would chime in since I haven't posted in a while.  I didn't think it was all too important to post each and every frame as there are tons, but I have made it to the halfway point.  I finally have the aft square frames constructed, 0-19. There is quite a color disparity between the more midship frames and further aft (lighting in the first picture makes it look worse than it is), but it is still the same wood (mahogany) if you're wondering. Thats what you get when you buy as you go with the wood I guess. Gives it a little character, so I'm sticking with it.

I am quite burned out with making frames so I am taking a break from those for a little bit to make some jigs and things I plan to use when I erect them. I've been reading EdT's methods for doing things in his Naiad and Fair American builds on how he erects the frames and I am building some of the clamps he described and the adjustable squares he uses, and altering my gantry a little.  It will be time well spent and hopefully keep the mistakes to a minimum. Better the prep, better the outcome I think. Once that's done, then I'll finish up the rest of the frames.

    Until next time, happy modeling!!

Howdy everyone.  I think I got the hawse frames worked out.  They're roughed out and still have quite a bit of fairing left to do on them, but think they came out pretty good.  I am happy with them.  I'm off building the aft square frames and fairing while they cure.  Have a good weekend, and to the folks in the US, have a great Memorial Day.

Thanks Daniel and Tim. That open space between the frame and hawse #4 is where the 5th & 6th hawse pieces fit. I didn't make them correctly on my test run. I'm trying to figure out a method for those two pieces. I'll probably end up doing them on the model instead of trying to assemble the whole piece off of the model.

Daniel, using mahogany for the structure parts, walnut for accent type stuff, ebony for the wales, and maple for deck planking, and haven't figured out the rest just yet.

Hey everyone.  A few progress pics... hawse frame construction. The test went well (except for 5 & 6) and the real thing came out as good as I could hope for. Still need some minor adjustment on the angles to attach them to the W frame and fair them, but I think they came out well. Still working out how I want to do 5 & 6. I attempted to do them along with the others, but that didn't turn out too well on my practice run. May wait to install them after I attach the others. Please let me know if any of you notice anything I might have missed.  Have a good one!

Hi Eric, thanks for the compliment. For my joints, I use a plain ole sharpie. I tested with some paint and a pencil, but the sharpie gave me the best look, at least for me. Just test first before using anything on some scraps with them glued together, and also to make sure it doesn't bleed into the wood too much especially on the end grain. The glue does change the color slightly.

Thanks Richard.  I'll be using the ones bundled with the keel, stem, and stern parts.  I compared them and both sets came out the same, just that the ones with the keel is more detailed with the beveling lines and so forth.

Now for a few progress pics...  Got the fore cant frames raised.  Now I'm off with the hawse frames, following Daniel's method in his log.  Thanks for that by the way, Daniel.  Doing a test set first with some scrap pine I had laying around to work out everything and so I don't waste the mahogany. Take care guys and happy modeling!

Hi everyone!  Got the aft cant frames raised.  Please let me know if you notice anything amiss or incorrect.  I don't see anything too bad, and am pretty happy with the way it turned out.  I haven't done any heavy fairing on them yet, that's the next step, and add the copper bolts to the floor futtocks.  I am going to leave 20-23 or so a little thick until I get the aft square frames in so I make sure I don't take off too much.  After fairing the aft portion, going to move onto the fore cant frames.  Have a good one guys.

I think I'm back on track, now onto raising the aft cant frames.  Here's photos of the stern section redo.  I am very happy with it and think it looks better than the original attempt.  Happy modeling everyone...
