Good evening, kevin and many thanks for the look-see.  So far the hardest part with respwct to the lids were making up the scuttles.  I'm happy to say that i have 42 middle and upper deck lids ready for painting, 32 lower deck lids with scuttles attched ( see photo) ready for eyelets and painting.  In other words, I'm getting there.  Actually, I need a ay off but this ship modelling thing is so addictive.  Have a great Sunday.

Good evening everyone.  During the past couple of days I have been constructing the gunport lids.  I find this to be one of the slowest procedures since starting the kit.  Forming the hinges isn't too bad as long as one is careful to not mix the right and left handed hinges.  Attaching the hinges to lids was easy because I made a jig that I copied from Dave (Shipyard Sid) and I can't thank him enough for his great idea.  Photo will show it fornt and back.  The 1mm recess worked perfectly.  During this operation and putting in the eyelets I again recommend wearing a shop apron to catch the dropped pieces in your lap.  I dropped a lot of them.  The eyelet addition was probably the slowest part of the whole thing.  Remember, each lid takes four eyelets and they must be placed in the right position.  Bottom line:  putting in the eyelets in 42 lids took me all day today.  I still have about 40 lids to hinge and add eyeltes to and then painting them all is next  For some reason my fingers hurt...Until the next time.....

    Jerry,

You have the skill and friends here will help as best that they can, why not give it a try. A little at a time, one line here and then another there. So what it takes you 5 days just to do one or two lines, that's one or two lines lest that you have to do. This is only my option and it is up to you since you are the one building her. Either way I wish you the best and she is a nice ship the work you have put into her is Beautiful.

    Hello everyone.
Just some reflections on the work of the past couple of days.  If you have been following my log then you know about my problems with the proper location of the channels.  No need to repeat any of this except to say that the suggestions I received from fellow builders are very much appreciated and I will use one to remedy the situation.  Now, about the chain plates and their installation.  The first thing I believe is a warning of such.  With the Caldercraft kit  (Joyika) ,  when cutting apart the the three sections of the etched sheeted  chainplate ( some only have two sections) be very careful.   I was almost brought to tears when more than once I dropped a section or two and spent more time than I'd like to admit trying to find them.  I have a remedy that works well for me.  It is so simple that I almost feel foolish telling you all.  Simply wear a shop apron and most of the time when you drop one of these little buggers you'll find it in the lap of your apron.  It is also important to note that one must be very careful when cutting these sections apart.  One fraction of a mm can cause the destruction of the "safety pin" like section that eventullay is closed after the loop section is strung on it and the assembly is threaded through the bottom of the strop.  I wholeheartedly agree that the chainplates should be painted black while (whilst...for you Britishers)   before removing them from the sheet.  They're still going to have to be touched up however.  Last but not least,  make sure you use the proper size drill for the pins that hold the chainplates to the hull.  It's a lot easier to push the pins in then having to hammer them.  I hope this helps someone.

I also have drilled a 2mm hole in all the gun ports for the dummy guns as I didn't want that operation to interfere with mounting the gun port lids which I have begun preparing.  I hope everyone has a great evening...

If you mean how am I going to be certain that all the lids are consistent in there assembly, you need to jig up especially when there are so
Many to assemble. I have made a very simple jig for the hinge position, as the hinge needs to positioned 1mm from the rear edge of the lid.
I just locate the lid up to the back of the jig which has the 1mm recess, and lock it in position and glue on the hinges, with a guide for the hinge position, simple but effective. photos show simplicity itself. DAVID

    Hello David,
I was wondering where you were,  I thought that maybe you were so entangled in the rigging that you couldn't escape to do anything else. But i'm very glad to hear from you and hope all is well.  Thank you for your encouraging words.  I'm sure you now that I appreciate them a lot.  I do have one problem however which I wish I'd noticed before the channels went on.  Looks like Admiral Nelson is going to put the kibosh on the nex to last cannon on the port side quarter deck.  For some reason this gun is pointed directly at a deadeye so I will try and raise it so as not to blow the smithereens out of some of the rigging if it's ever fired.  I was very careful with my measurements so apparently I wasn't careful enough.  Here's a looksee.

Is that gun there in order to destroy the ship in case of imminent boarding by the bad guys?

Good morning, Lawrence.  Thank you so much for your words of encouragement.  I must have been in a puzzled mood when I wrote what I did in David's log.  Actually most of it was tongue in cheek and I'm really excited about progressing toward the rigging aspect of this build.  At this time all of he channels are fitted and  I'm attaching the chain plates to the port side of the hull.  I hope to have this completed in a day or two and then it's on to the gun port lids.  I have followed the manual step by step although I have noticed that most others jump around either to avoid damage or for other reasons.  I wish you a very happy day and congratulate you on the progress you are making.

    Good evening everyone.
Looks like as good a time as any to post my progress with Victory.  The last couple of days have incurred several interruptions to my building so the way I see it, I'm lucky to to get done what I have at a nice slow pace.  I'm delighted that the mounting of the channels and chain plates has gone well so far.  I have completed the starboard side of the hull and will look forward to working on the port side at the next work session.  Oh yeah, I'm including a picture of my
only sailing rig.  My other hobby is racing radio control sailboats.  The one pictured is called a Micro Magic, one of the smallest boats sailed in competition.  With building Victory, it's hard to keep my committed schedule of racing but so far so good.  The only problem is I have to learn to sail better so I can finish better than next to last and last. I need a good tutor.  Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for putting up with my rantings.

    Hello David.
Thanks for taking the time to give me your opinion on the strops.  Yes, I remember looking at sheet 12 to seee the layout of the chain plates.  It is here where the correct rotation of the dead eyes is shown.   I may be wrong but I believe that since one of the strop lugs is glued to the bottom of the channel it will act as resistance to the force of the shroud and therefore have less of a chance of pulling out.  I also believe that the facing strip on the channel will help keep everything in place.  As you know the instructions for this stage, provided by Jotika, are shabby at best.  Thank goodness for all the help from you and the other logs. I hope everything will work out.  And thanks again for your valued opinion which I always look forward to.
