Temporary workshop during the modelbuilding show last weekend
in between several interesting talks with visitors I prepared some block for the platforms
and mounted them for the foremast and mainmast
and some blocks mounted on the masts
coming period I will not post a lot, due to other jobs in the house (painting etc ) -

Andy,
In case that you did not already know about these two sources.
http://www.wasadream.com/modeles/Clayton/wasaclaytonenglish.html (Clayton's build is world famous (well in our comunity)
http://www.wasadream.com/Index/indexenglish.html (Wasadream has many many photos as well)
The museum has also released Vasa I, with Vasa II "soon" to be published. Fred Hocker has noted that Vasa II will be with the model builder in mind, whereas Vasa I is historical in nature along with the bulk of the very interesting book having to do with the search, resurrection and its preparation for the museum.
Cheers,
Michael

A small update - been painting figures. Most of them don`t match what`s on the real ship but they look ok from a distance. The kit did not provide for the 4 port holes in the upper gallery so I made some from some brass eyelets from the fabric store. I also didn`t like the oversize plastic windows so I searched through my spare parts boxes & found a couple of etched brass windows which were just the right size,so I used them.
Now back to more painting

oops - I meant the lower gallery

"kardeelblocks"
More of the smaller stuf including 26 canons for the "verdek" - deck
I didn't want the captain to stare at his maps in the dark, so I brought him some lights
And finaly, I decided to make this piece (don't know the English word for it) which is absent in Winter's model.
But, I didn't like the open version.
I will keep you up to date more often, that's a promise...

Hello,
Thanks for all the likes and comments!
So, another snowstorm in Boston tonight! I am hunkering down and I thought it would be a good time to post some more picts before we lose power!
I continued work on the bowsprit by adding blocks and eyelets for future rigging. I am using the Corel plans, but modifying it with the plans from the Vasa Museum (along with visuals from Karl's great log on his Vasa). The museum plans and Karl's work show the rigging with the sails. Since I plan to use a combination of furled sails and a couple of sails fully open, I added more blocks onto the bowsprit than what the Corel plans show.
I now positioned and glued the bowsprit to the ship.
Then I added the rigging to tie down the bowsprit.
I previously added the cleats to the bowsprit and I mistakenly added them a little too close to where the lashings are suppose to be, but I think they will be fine and I will be able to work around them!
Then I added the supports for the lashings and the stairs.
My next step is to add the blocks and eyelets to the 3 masts and fit the masts to the ship.
Thanks
Frank

Upper gun deck is planked !
A strange thing but I have white parts in the wood.
I have try to remove it by sanding and then 2 layers of tung oil on it but it don't work.
So I let it this way.
When all the fiddly stuff ( gratings , ladders , steering wheel and betings and more of that funny stuff ) are in place I think you don't see it anymore.
Otherwise remember that in de early century's also the wood was not the same
( I don't know who told me that but I like it )
Between the planking I have make the false keel and frames of the 32 Ft Pinnace.....
Mobbsie told me that those Pinnace 's are kits of them own.
So for the price of one kit , you have 5 kits ( 4 Pinnace's )
Enough talking, time for pictures !

Update
Hello everyone,
First of all, I wish everyone a good and healthy new year. May it be a nice building year for us!
I have been busy in the last few weeks. Photo's of the progress of the ship itself will follow soon.
Today I did some work on the cannon's. I had to make 72 of those parts of the cannon with the stair figure (you know what I mean when you see the photo's below). I did 36 of them today. A lot of work! :
This is my current workspace:
I hope to post some more pictures of the ship itself soon!

As promised yesterday the pictures.
Now I can play with the 2 mm blocks......
When the first one is done I will post another picture of that to see if I'm on the right track.
Enjoy your sunday and do the things that you have to do.
