Veracruz helped immensely David.. would the name be considered 'Hot & Saucy' by any chance ? Don't want to give the answer as I'm not around full time for a bit (if it is correct of course) Eamonn If I'm right, then Jan you may be focusing on the wrong information (drop down a couple of posts from the original photo)

Hey there Tony, would you believe I was thinking that it looked TV shaped too, but thought better of mentioning it..as I would imagine that late1700's TV was pretty boring through lack of proper funding with there being a war on and what-not..  Kester: I probably will plank the transom before attaching the 'S.O.C.T.T.A.T.T.O.O.T.T.' (for short) then sand the planks down a lot so they don't bulk up the area too much before attaching the 'S.O.C..you get the idea..T.T' I had a notion of painting the Transom black, but with it planked and left natural it might look great in contrast to the walnut of the 'S.O.C.T.. etc.T.T.' , I shall have to cogitate at length on this.. Hey there Nigel, I had just posted this when I spotted your post, Transom Surround it is so.. much more succinct than 'S.O.C.T.T and so on T.T.' I will be doing the 'poly' experimentation shortly, I see a nice matt polyurethane in a local shop, but I am still amazed at the difference in price between Amazon (UK) and the U.S. Thanks for stopping by folks and for the advice. Classic Stuff Kester.. have to say you made me laugh! I'm totally amazed at the price on Amazon ! probably have to sell a kidney if you wanted to paint a door, hate to think what would happen if you needed to give it a 2nd coat ! By the way I was infamous on the boats and around town for making up my own names for stuff.. and I genuinely have no idea how to describe the 'squared off circular ring thing that attaches to the outside of the transom' ! I'll take a pikky of it tomorrow and see who comes up with the best name Thanks for checking in Kester Eamonn Tell you what.. I'll take that Pikky now.. back in a mo.

Still looks wonderful Ollie, though the unpainted is my favourite as your timber work deserves to be shown! That said the Black & Grey is very functional on what is a 'work' boat! Hope you feel much better soon Mate and that Dengue can't be caught over the computer!! am wearing a mask over here just to be sure  Take Care Mate Ok! Eamonn BTW if you did that painting work when not feeling well then ... Daaamn, can't wait to see what you will do when you are well again!!

WooHoo.. well spotted Dee_Dee, nice to know exactly what was being referred to and that it is a fairly 'regular' Polyurethane (I just checked the price of it on Amazon (UK) they only have the Can version and it is almost £35 ex post for half a pint (225g)!!! (who knew that Polyurethane was the Trade Name for Liquid Gold!!) (the can on Amazon isn't labelled the 'exact' same but the colouring of the tin is the same, but Wow that is expensive (convert to Euro and add postage and that is the price of a kit ) Just had a look at Home Depot (US Site) and the price differences are simply astounding! perhaps I need to 'shop around' a bit. Thanks Dee_Dee for thinking of me and posting the info. Eamonn BTW Hope the Muscongus Lobster Boat goes well !

The Small files are a great investment, get yourself a good set of blades too (craft knife type of thing) I see many here using Xacto or some name like that! Oh and a cutting matt is good too and not too expensive, and whilst I'm here get plenty of Clamps (Wooden Clothes Pegs are grand for the moment, and will always be useful even if you get better plastic model clamps later on) Eamonn

Hey there G, Fire away with the build log, I for one will follow along as I thing she is a cracking wee boat. I'm not 100% sure but I think there is a Practicum for this boat available somewhere which might be worth a look. I wouldn't worry too much about feeling as though you have nothing to offer (you'd want to see my log, it's almost a build by group effort! ) Half the fun of a log is to have others help you out and offer suggestions and tips. I look forward to seeing this boat built from the ground up! All The Best Eamonn

Totally agree Ollie, sometimes it is good to make people 'work for it' in the sense that they don't see everything in one go, I like paintings with that quality too, you can discover something new even after many viewings! Eamonn

All Righty Then.. Here's a few gratuitous Clamp, Peg & Pin Shots for all ye folks into that kind of thing (You Know Who Ye Are.. For Shame! ) To Quote Father Ted.. 'Down With That Sort Of Thing' ... 'Careful Now'... ! (Anyone out there who doesn't know 'Father Ted', just Google it, and enjoy. There was actually a Fr. Ted festival over in the West of Ireland last weekend and people from all over the world came to it! ) Ok on with the show.. Got some more planking done this morning, the Port side is slowly catching up with Stbd. I'll catch up fully before continuing on down both sides as I think I'm at the Wale Height on Stbd. ! When they are level I plan on planking the Stern immediately below the Transom Piece, that way the Hull Planking will Overlap the edges of this Stern Planking.. I might even plank the Transom itself as there is a Walnut Surround to go on it and the contrast could be interesting! Thanks for checking in and have a great Weekend ok Sail 'er Easy Eamonn

Will enjoy following this monster along Floyd, there was a slightly smaller completed hull only (mast was a stump to just above the gooseneck but had the boom too) model of this beast in a local antique store about 1 year ago, green painted on red below waterline with brass fittings and boy was she pretty!! couldn't say if she was from a kit or not, but I've seen some special models over the years and she would be ranked amongst them! Not a worry Nigel there are plenty of different whites out there and I haven't discounted the Natural Barley.. especially if I mix some of the Warm White into it ! worst comes to the worst it will make for a good undercoat over the Walnut timber and they were only a couple of Euro anyhoo (there are plenty of Off Whites where I work so I can experiment happily, particularly as I'm the one who uses them ) We can always resort to that 'old chestnut' Magnolia !!!  Eamonn

Hi Kester, Nigel was telling me that Keith Julier had a preference for Dulux Barley White ! I picked up a wee Tester Pot of Dulux Natural Barley (all that was available!) a few weeks ago together with a Warm White to mix through it should it prove too dark (Manufacturers seem change their colours slightly, or at least to change the names every so often, so what to Keith J was a Barley White may now be the Natural Barley I picked up, though I have just had a quick look at Dulux's Colour Chart online and Barley White isn't there (Natural Barley is but it is under 'Warm Neutrals'! and looks a rather 'deep' cream.. admittedly trying to judge colour on a computer is a dangerous thing as sooo much depends on the calibration (or Lack of..!) of your screen... I will see soon enough ) I rigged up a little 'jig' to help me keep the plank ends square, which I will adapt to keep lengths the same shortly! I might take another look at the Amati Cutter though, as my jig is a little on the Heath Robinson inspired side Many thanks Kester for looking in and for the tips & advice, always appreciated!! Thank Kester, I shall take your recommendation under advisement when I switch over to the Walnut, after-all I'll be going around 1 strake past the Waterline with the Maple anyhoo (and as you say it will go faster as I progress) Your Sherbourne has the White Stuff too so I'll take it the joins will show through the paint! Thanks for the suggestion Kester All the Best Eamonn

Jim, I would recommend adding the stealer as you have said (my reason for doing it as I did is that looking at the plans there seemed to be 4 or 5 full width planks between the Wale and the top of the Bulwark, and as I was changing from Dark Walnut to a much lighter coloured plank, and was 'showing' caulking, I wanted the Wales to run level with the bottom of the 4th or 5th strake all the way along. As I think your plan was to perhaps paint this area between Wale & Top of Bulwark then this isn't so vital (you mentioned liking the colour scheme of a previous Ballahoo build, which seems to be painted 'Nelson' yellow in this area, that's why I say this ) The plank shaping as a consequence of this running the planks along the top is why I'm going so slowly at present, though they are beginning to run smoother as I go down (having said that though the bow still requires a little shaping to be done) Nigel, I shall opt for the Add On Wale, which will be an extra plank run on top of the 2nd layer I'm doing now (2 plank widths wide) and shall be painted black, I'll be running another much narrower (2mm wide x 1mm thick) piece parallel between the Wale and the top rail which will also be painted black. Hope all of that makes sense guys, Eamonn

Thanks Ollie, I reasoned that as she is such a small boat, you are effectively looking at her from a much closer distance than say a Victory or an Aggie etc., thus the plank detail would be more apparent even at 1:64, once the 'clear varnish' colour goes onto her the contrast between the Caulking and the planks shouldn't be so pronounced (not too sure which clear coat will be used though, hence all the previous questions to folks about 'Wipe on Poly'..) Thanks for stopping by Ollie, and a big thanks to all the Likes, tis very much appreciated ! Sail 'er Easy. Eamonn
